Happy farmers, a wedding and some giant cauliflowers feature in a quaint look at India's rural west.
"The land of smiling people" - rural Maharashtra, in the west of India - is the setting of this film. In this quaint look at rural life, the roles of the smiling farmer and his wife are clearly performed by professional actors in a style reminiscent of Indian films of the time - and strangely at odds with the documentary style narration. The film was produced by the Prabhat Film Company - then one of India's leading feature film production companies - for the Films Division of the Government of India.

Yes that makes sense because the video claims it is from 1945 and title says Maharashtra, which doesn't make sense because I dont think "Maharashtra" existed under that name until 1960?
@@foresthill8462 the state didn't but the name did, Maharashtra first appeared in the 7th century in the account of a contemporary Chinese traveler, Huan Tsang. In the early modern period, the region of Maharashtra came under the rule of several Islamic dynasties, including the Deccan Sultanates and Mughal Empire
@@foresthill8462 Maharashtra didn't just came out of the blue after it's official formation in 1960. It always existed from a long time, First time someone took it's name in his diary which he obviously got from the natives was in 7th century and over the centuries, Many Marathi writers, poets, Philosophers referred to it as Maharashtra as their own nation and the name Maharashtra itself translates to "The Great Nation", So, There's that.

Feels nostalgic, we grew same crop Jowar(Sorghum) in North Karnataka, culturally also North Karnataka is so much similar to Maharashtra. Feels fortunate to have experienced this village life in 80s. After 1990 everything changed, everything became commercialized. Villages have changed more in last 25-30 years than they changed in last 200-250 years prior to that.
@Mahinda Rajapassa Your transformation looks even more radical, our villages in India remain but communication, commute, transportation, food, clothing has somewhat changed.
