The Nürburgring has gone by many names over the years, but none are as accurate as “The Green Hell”. This legendary track has a reputation for being brutal and unforgiving, it is the very track that scared Niki Lauda forever, and the same track that allowed Ayrton Senna to show the world his talent. Everyone from BMW, Honda, Mercedes-Benz, Toyota, Ford, Hyundai, Lamborghini, Ferrari, and the list goes on and on … they all test at the Nurburgring to see who takes home the title of the fastest car around “The Ring.” The track also attracts thousands of enthusiasts every year, all looking to test their abilities behind the wheel, yet this has resulted in millions of crash videos. The Nurburgring even offers its guests the chance to sit in the passenger seat of proper race cars piloted by seasoned drivers in order to experience the track at its finest. So what exactly is it that the Nurburgring has that it draws OEM manufacturers, custom builders, and speed freaks from all over the world? Ohh yeah and did we mention that this “track” is also a toll road? This is everything you need to get up to speed on the world’s fastest and craziest toll road/race track!

The most fun I've ever had (while fully clothed) was back in 2010 when I spent a whole day on the Nordschleife with my then fairly new and almost stock K8 Suzuki Hayabusa. I was on a 5000 mile solo tour all around Europe, and this wasn't even in the plans first, but when I was approaching Köln I just had to do it. The bike was in full touring setup with panniers, hard Michelin Pilot Road tires and I was not in leathers, but in Goretex allweather gear. I did some abysmally slow 9 to 12 minute laps, and enjoyed every minute of it. Best day ever in my 30 years of motorcycling. Just do it while you still have a chance.

The '17 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 1LE did the Nordschleife in 7:16 min. It beat for example the Ferrari 458 Italia (7:38 min), Nissan GT-R (7:36 min), Porsche 911 GT2 RS (7:24 min).
This Camaro is among the 25 fastest cars on the Nordschleife.
The 2010 GT2RS lapped the Nordschleife in 7:24. A better comparison would be the 2018 GT2RS which ran a 6:47 (6:40 with the MR package), almost exactly a half minute faster than the camaro
@@fbpo1699 you've got a good point, but the GT2 RS started seven grand short of three hundred thousand dollars, while the ZL1 1LE would be around sixty-nine grand. It really makes the ZL1 1LE look like a bargain, and I think that was what O.P. was trying to point out.
@@1atm1 OP did not qualify his statement one bit he just listed (misleadingly chosen) lap times. Also lets not act like 30seconds is a small gap, its absolutely massive. Lastly, lets talk about quality, obviously the chevy is cheaper, because the car is complete dog shit, you pay for what you get.
It's quite interesting that a 4-cylinder car has created a pretty comparable time. The Type R has done it in about 7 minutes and 43 seconds

Dude - you forgot the most important issue - the way time records are done!
The Nordschleife became THE standard for the car industry. As you mentioned, most sports car producers run a big show with their "official" times... almost every 300 hp plus car communicates their "official" Nordschleifezeit. A top Nordschleifezeit means big bucks for the car manufacturers.
There are 3 different "track distances".
Because of the nature of the race track (connected to the GP track and open to the public), there have been a lot of dangerous situations and accidents in the track section where the two tracks run on the same surface. That means, many times there was traffic from both tracks coming together going in the same direction. The section of the track is called "T13" and is about 253 yards.
One of the biggest car magazines for sports cars in Europe (Sportauto) started to do their own time trials and wanted to have official times. They had a lot of hairy situations in the section where the two tracks run on the same surface. And because they wanted to have stable time recordings, they decided to exclude T13 because they could not control the incoming traffic coming from the GP track.
So the 3 different distances are:
the distance for the public track (20.3 km or 12.55 miles - there is a separate gate where you pay and get onto the track)
the distance including T13 (20.6 km or 12.8 miles)
the distance excluding T13 (20.832 km or 12.944 miles)
Nowadays the owner and operator of the track decided to record the times themselves and installed official light barriers for with and without T13.
Insiders say that there is a shit load of cheating going on when it comes to "official" track records. Famous car manufacturers are in the cheating business as well. For example - Nissan GTR (1st. version). Nissan claimed to have run a 7:29 in the 2010s. Several other competitors were more than just surprised/impressed. They bought standard GTRs and put top racing drivers in them - they were all over 10 seconds slower.
Special tires, underweight, engine mapping, etc are almost impossible to control.
Just as well as the track gets faster and faster every year - there is a lot of resurfacing going on each winter. Course corrections to make the track safer always take the bite out of corners (Flugplatz Jump etc).
My own time was a 9:13 (tourist track) ruclips.net/video/PP_wEFzGmDs/видео.html
