I just bought a 2022 F150 Lariat Lightning. I love it. It is a land yacht. The two front seats are like flying first class. It has a way smoother ride than my Tesla Model Y, and is really quiet. The charging infrastructure is getting better and better. We drove from Santa Fe to Hobbs New Mexico, in the Tesla, and we were able to get down there and back with no charging fuss. A few years ago this was a charging desert, and there was no way to get into that part of the country in an EV. By the way, this F150 is available on Turo in Santa Fe New Mexico, if you want to try before you buy.
All the room in 4 door pickup trucks is the reason they are very popular for families in the middle of the country. Plus the bed is handy for home projects and chairs and strollers to soccer practice. BTW at our local public golf course near Joplin Missouri yesterday half the vehicles in the parking lot were pickups.
You people must be all rich that half of your vehicles cost more than 70K US$ at the golf course - which i guess costs more than 10K per year. Chapeau!
@@notvaporlocked5479 Here in Europe 70K is the lower limit for US pickup trucks. Many cost 120K and more. But then i only know millionaires who can afford the entry fee to a golf course. Our golfers drive usually with Bentleys, Jaguars and AMG etc. When they go into the woods hunting they use their G-Class. Some even have old Pinzgauers or Jeeps. Rarely VW Amarok aka Ford Ranger. But US full size pickups are a rare sight.
Not just crazy popular in the middle of the country. I live in Massachusetts and a third of the vehicles on the road are full size trucks. I see hundreds of F-150's each day alone.
I have a lightning Lariat since October 2022 I put a bed rug in the bed and diamondback cover ($3000) on it making the bed much more useful my current description is that it is a “Luxury tank with a huge trunk” and i love it
Excellent video and very informative. Telling it like it is. This isn't a truck to be used for traveling or long distance towing. I was fortunate to get my platinum at MSRP around $95k prior to taxes, which were reduced because I paid no taxes on my trade in portions. I love my lightning, local use only charge at home.
Hey Gjeebs, $72K for a full size electric truck is a bargain vs a $50-$60K compact crossover EV (Model Y). The truck is way more vehicle, with way more capabilities. You said you'd spend a lot for a car but don't understand trucks. Trucks are always more expensive and justifiably so. An ICE F-150 easily gets close to $72K in similar spec. You can spend $90K on an ICE F-150.
The f150 lighting lariat and hybrid lariat would be very comparable in price especially when you factor in the tax credit. The 70k to 40k comparison doesn’t make sense, compare both base model prices or same equipment load out trim prices.
“Post collision braking”. I’d be super excited to try that out. Especially after I found how far I could actually tow with this…ahem, towing vehicle. Seriously, great review, your vehicle review diversification is really great.
I use my platinum locally and charge at home. If I needed a truck for traveling or long distance towing having to depend on public chargers, I wouldn't have purchased my lightning
I keep hearing the F150 Lightning is cheaper than Rivian but I recently priced out an advertised F150 Lariat Lightning (claiming to be 73K online) but when I actually sat down to do the finance or lease, even at low APR, it was WAY more expensive than the Rivian. Couldn't figure out why. 1 was they don't pass on the 7,500K on the lease. Second, the advertised price was BS as it included a bunch of incentives that were not possible to claim/combine, so it was really an 85K MSRP and then less incentives offered. Still scratching my head on this one as the Rivian was coming out cheaper either Lease/finance
The trucks are overpriced for what they are IMO. I looked at the Lightning. The extended range Lariat was 90k before taxes and fees. The quality of the interior materials was that of a 40 or 50k truck. The Rivian is a much nicer vehicle for the money...the challenge with Rivian is getting one and then service is a challenge due to it being a fairly new company and product. Will be interesting to see the offerings from Ram and Chevy/GMC and how they compare.
They will probably stack up with lightning. I don’t see price being a big differentiation, the other companies will be sharing stuff from the same parts-bin as their ICE vehicles. I think gen 2 trucks from the big brands will significantly more improved and cheaper. The first iteration is going to be the most expensive
90k? Wow. Must be an area thing. Where I am I just bought mine today, Lariat (511) extended range with max tow (it was already on there), for $80k after taxes and all those fees and crap, out the door. That is before the $7500 tax credit, bringing the total down to $72,500. And I don't have to buy the pro charger which is what... another $1k+ if you want that, which I did, since it comes with the extended range. Amittedly, even that is over priced as is any new growing technology, but 90k for the same truck I got today? Wow. I walked out the first time and second time they worked offers for me. Took them 4 times to meet my target monthly after my down-payment I've been saving up for some time. I agree that they are over priced from a consumer perspective right now. The background factors and what is actually involved changes my opinion to be able to accept why underlying "why" right now. In the future, these and others will come down as better more efficient technology comes out.
@@carnealse Yeah Ford reduced the prices now. I would have bought for 80k and actually asked the salesman for that price (they had three of them sitting on the lot). They laughed and offered me 3500 off the 90k sticker price. I walked and have a Rivian R1T.

Normal Warranty on any car in Australia, 5 years unlimited distance. Some like Kia do 7 years unlimited distance. Tesla does 4 years 80,000km, about 50,000 miles. Tesla is the actual warranty joke here. But I still have one.
Do you think once the "Magic Dock" from Tesla's super chargers gets available in more locations, the F150 would be even more popular to buy? That 3rd party charging network turns off a lot of potential buyers.
Be interesting to see someone compare these to the cybertruck when it's out I'd say alot of people won't like the look of the cybertruck and possibly get this even if it's not as good.
Wait! Did you say "post collision braking"? Um ... isn't that a little late to put the brakes on? I know it also brakes pre-collision so that's good. And I suppose after the collision, you don't want the thing rolling on and going right off the road and down a cliff! But some collisions will destroy the brakes although by then you may not care.

Trucks are great if you frequently need to get a few tons of rocks from Home Depot. Otherwise I'd rather have a nice roomy sedan or hatch. Nowhere in a truck to put luggage and other things if you don't want it rolling around in a truck bed. Trucks just don't have great storage for everyday stuff.
Where is he buying that hybrid F-150 for $40K? If you don't want to pay $72k, don't buy the upper trim level. My 2023 Lightning XLT was $52k OTD. Kind of a goofy review.
