      Usually a fat character is either an NPC or supporting character. Typically obese male characters are the butt of jokes or their weight alludes to their skills in other areas. Such as intelligence or the like. You don't ask for fat male characters to be the soldiers on the front lines. (Unless you're mocking the very idea in itself.)

    I'm not a hardcore gamer girl by any sorts (I mostly play rhythm games, puzzles, etc.) and I've only played a bit of RPG and single player campaigns (since I suck at them), but when I do, I always choose to make my female characters attractive and sexy -- very different from how I actually look in real life, which is a potato, and I use those avatars as inspiration to live a healthy lifestyle and workout -- cuz let's be honest, who wouldn't want to be attractive in real life? Games are supposed to give people a different perspective, a different adventure and experiences larger than life. Games are literally virtual simulations to allow you to live and explore a life different from yours, not to serve as a medium of representation for "unrepresented" individuals or group. As Chris Gore said, if you can only empathize with characters who look like you or similar to you in some other way, then that's a sign of a very low level of empathy. No wonder this generation and age is acknowledged to be as the most narcissistic humans to ever live in history so far.

    When it comes to body positivity 99% of the people complaining about "fat shaming" and not feeling represented in games and media are themselves overweight and usually morbidly obese. They mistake denial for self confidence. I had someone actually tell me that being obese was not unhealthy because she "identified as healthy" I shit you not. The thing is, its much easier to complain about other people's opinions on your weight or health than it is to actually do something about it. The same woman who told me she identified as healthy had a heart attack at age 32 and at 375lbs. After that and several bypass surgeries she realized what she was doing to herself and worked hard to get healthy and has been doing much better. The amount of crap she got from former body positive "friends" was unreal. She actually had to move cities and close all her social media accounts to get away from them. There is nothing wrong with liking how you look or feel, but ignoring health problems and attacking other people for actually being healthy and working at it is not a sign of good mental health. They turn the shame they feel for letting themselves go into hate they direct at anyone that looks thinner or healtheir than they do. I had another acquaintance- not friend, I barely knew her- who was obese but trying to get healthy who went down the body positivity rabbit hole. Now she has developed type 2 diabetes and has had borh feet amputated- almost her entire left leg below the knee because she waited so long to get treatment. She stopped physical therapy after the 2nd amputation because she hated the therapists suggesting she try and get healthier and lose weight. Last I heard she's living with her grandmother because her parents refuse to help her anymore. She's gone full tumbler with being a non-binary, gender fluid, mental divergent, polyamorus wolf kin furry. I really wish I was kidding. Aaaaaand there it is. Potentially explains everything that the blank account is following Feminist Frequency, implying that they are connected.
    Also, it is yet another commercial/piece of media obsessed with a self-insert on a character. I'm again reminded of that study that Lego researched with; boys became the character, girls projected themselves onto the character. Oh, we're being told that some game franchise should be risked because some unknown number of female gamers can't insert themselves over a character for one reason or another (leading to a situation of no one being satisfied still)? Don't change something because you can't play/watch something the way others do, male and female alike.
    Anyone else also get reminded of the trope in media that feature a scene showing a girl playing with her brother's action figures, the brother then finds out and sees her not just playing with his toys without permission, but also making the characters behave in a manner that they never would? And in some situations the girl is going to be like "What? I made it better!"
    The whole Dove commercial doesn't feel like it's for the betterment of games, gamers, or the characters in the games. It comes off as announcing another topic to throw blind support/advocacy behind for the sake of benefitting a group that wants every aspect of society to behave and believe like they do.

  • @FenrirWolf203
    @FenrirWolf203 Год назад

    5:36 I 100% agree with that. I tend to make characters that couldn't be more different from myself, usually going for monstruous characters like orcs, kobolds, tieflings and similar, because they allow for interesting thought processes (since I also enjoy roleplay, and I play DnD too, so, sometimes I try to think of how would my character act knowing their upbringing and who were they before the game started), like, a kobold isn't going to act the same way as a gnome, or an orc, or a human, because their upbringing and culture is completely different, and understanding that allows for some funny interactions that make them a lot more unique and memorable to me than an avatar who is exactly like me.
    Thinking that people want to be represented in everything they consume it's honestly quite asinine. People don't want to see themselves in the characters, people want to be able to relate to the characters, not because they go through the exact same thing, but because they understand the core idea behind the character, and can look up to the character and root for them to achieve their goal. Maybe something as simple as the character being determined in their goal can be enough, because the players have been in their own sittuations where they wanted to do something and decided that they weren't going to buckle, because they wanted to see it through to the end (or maybe they admire that ability because they lack it, but wish they didn't lack it). Humans are complex, and trying to paint with such a broad brush the whole picture will end up looking nothing like things are in real life
