I normally write books (fiction and non), but I do have one screenplay under my belt. I admire ANYONE who can write a screenplay. Just getting the indentations right is a nightmare! Beyond that, to write one with the quality of Sling Blade is right up there at a superhero level. NO question Billy is not only supremely gifted, but also dedicated to quality. All good wishes.

Kevin, you are my hero, man. You get all these great interviews! BBT is so freakin awesome, he must be aware of it, but he seems so normal. I love him in EVERYTHING. He is so good, he's like completely different people from one role to another. LOVED him as Johnny Tyler in Tombstone, as Karl Childers in Sling Blade, as Jacob in A Simple Plan... He's alway so different, and one easily forgets that's him! And when BBT writes a script, it stays written! The dialog in Sling Blade is so good and so quotable. I remember nearly all of it. It is my sincerest wish that Billy somehow understands how much he is appreciated for who he is and how good he is at what he does. P.S. Just for fun: $400 in 1984 is $1139 in 2022, which for ME is between $8.9 and 9.2 billion

I love the discussion about Zappa and a great reminder to go revisit that music as I've never gone as deep into him as I would like to, but many of the musical artists I love are in that vein and have similar influence, also seen Dweezil Zappa a couple times. I think todays equivalent would be Umphrey's McGee (not gonna go on an endless rant about them, though I could), I am curious if Billy Bob is aware of them and a fan as they are famously from Chicago, his favorite city, and are very inspired by the prog. rock & improv heavy "jam" band of that time: Frank Zappa, King Crimson, Adrian Belew, Talking Heads etc. also then Primus & Phish etc. Umphrey's McGee from South Bend Indiana/Chi-town . . . . CHECK EM OUT! Nothing Too Fancy!

Still plenty of negativity all these years later. He's famous tor trapping people into saying something that he can become outraged over. Practically everyone in Canada was offended by a radio interview where he clammed-up because the host mentioned his movie career. His reaction was: "It's only Canada." Lovely guy.

This interview was done years ago. Since then we have found out that Billy Bob was quite the problem child.
Several directors have found him to be a real stinkbomb, creating a toxic work environment on set. Even one of the nicest guys around, the director of Bad Santa, went through this nightmare. Apparently after the first two weeks or so, it's too late to fire certain actors in certain positions, and that's when this booze-fueled ego machine really ramps it up.
His "punishment" is that he got a Sling Blade academy award and a Santa sequel from the studio. Plus fan adoration and whatever sympathy he got from breaking up from Jon Voight's bratty kid AJ. (Never meet your faves, and yes, he was once also one of my faves. Thankfully I've met several, but he wasn't one of them.)

The guest brought up Sam Raimi's 'dark' films. Seriously, is there anything darker than watching a grown man get sucked off by a child( in the Coen Bros. film)? Still recovering from that magical moment. You gotta love actors. When they start flying without a script, watch out!

Kevin Pollak's show is a great interview show, but somebody should consider creating an impression of Kevin Pollak while he takes long dramatic pauses to collect his thoughts preparing to compliment the guest. These pauses have their own character, and they seem to take forever. He does certain gestures, like putting his arms straight out against the table, slowly rubbing his open palm over his face, and looking heavenward as if staving off tears. The guest always seems to be slightly non-plussed while he is doing this. The impression would have him start to voice his thoughts, only to lapse into this weird wordless jumble of gestures and facial expressions he does, and just never come out of it, or else just end the show, or go into a plug for some advertiser.
