It’s usually hard to pick the best of any category. Like the best movie, the best actor, the best song. It is not difficult at all to pick the best comedian.
The genius of norm is that as soon as you think you have finally got him and know what he's up to, there's another layer of trickery. He's the only comedian I know that gets funnier the more you know him.
Norm doesn't need no scripts. No writers. No props. No impersonations, etc to get laughs. He casually tells stories, without preparation &will crack you up every time. He doesn't need to try very hard or write scripts for any appearance. Hes effortlessly funny. Hes always casual &relaxed. When he starts a story, you know before the end of it, you will be laughing.Norm is a true comedian, funny without trying to be funny. There are few like him.Truly your favorite comedian's favorite comedian
"we all know there's no such thing as an old-fashioned gay guy. they're the most decadent people." only norm could deliver that without people flipping out.
norm is awesome. one of my favorite human beings. he needs to have more stand up specials on comedy central.. i've watching Me Doing Stand Up too many times
This is one of my favorites. I dont know what it is, but it's just so 'Norm' I cant count how many times I've watched it or showed it to someone to get them on the Norm bandwagon.
Norm rides the fence of absurdism where he comes off sounding like either 1. mocking what a lying man sounds like or 2. just an innocent fool's random story. You never quite know which.
The whole first part of this interview was the set up to the alcoholism is the best disease to have punchline. He's told that same joke for probably a decade or more. It's also in "Me Doing Standup" as well.
It's nice that he makes it different each time though. He meanders around till he finds the punch line organically... it almost doesn't even matter what the punch line is because his set ups are usually funnier anyway.
+Jacob Russell Yep. I remember in one version of the story he talks about how you shouldn't mix alcohol with pills and then adds that it's because the effects are too good. He also made a comment that it probably isn't a good idea to take pills from a stranger in the bathroom, but then he says something like, "But on the other hand, his name was Doctor Midnight..."
+Jacob Russell His punchlines really don't matter at all like he has so many jokes that have just a solid punchline nothing special and sometimes they are just corny but none of that matters since his setup to the jokes are always so damn funny that you don't care about the punchline at the end. Really think he's the only standup with that type of setup
It was excellent! Wort every penny of the relatively expensive tickets. (I'm used to punk rock shows that cost $10 so a $50 comedy show felt like quite a splurge, but it was a lot of fun so no regrets there!)
Norm is playing a bit of a "Norm character" on talk shows because they're like 10 minute segments and he's promoting something, usually his stand up routine, so he tells jokes from his stand-up. But on Howard Stern he's a little more casual because it's just shooting the breeze for about an hour.
he never played a character or had a persona, per se. or if he did he had it all the time, in real life and in his professional life. this was the guy. how he is here is how he was socially out w his buddies, according to everything anyone's ever said. either the act never stopped or it was no act.
I think it's one of the funniest bits with Norm. I haven't found it anywhere else on the net. Check out the 2nd part, also. It's at least as funny as this part!
Norm passed away today. His comedy helped get me through a lot of tough times (and will continue to do so). RIP to one of my personal legends.
