- Taking off runway 24L in a Boeing 747-400 from Los Angeles Int. (LAX) to Frankfurt am Main (FRA) aboard Lufthansa LH 457 on a clear afternoon on August 29, 2007. The 747's registration was D-ABVK, called "Hannover".
After performing a left turn over the Pacific waterfront, our plane headed east, overflying Mojave Desert, Nevada, Colorado, Minnesota, southern Canada, Baffin Bay, Greenland, Iceland and Scotland back to Germany. We had a smooth flight!
Its always beautiful taking off out of LAX! FYI, the planes going East always turn South then break East because they always take off to the West.
I've done that flight numerous times and it is hell.
the best view on the ocean ! :)
very attractive looking wing....listen to those monster engines go.............i love u my precious poopsie 747....
Yeah, you're right - flight time from the US west coast to Frankfurt is about 10 hours and we were right on schedule.
Thanks for correcting me, I just changed the video information.
Standard departure for traffic, east and northeast is to turn south and then east/northeast; usually flying just to the south of Long Beach.
Flights to SFO, SEA, etc. and Asia usually fly runway heading and then turn the northwest -- passing over Ventura and Santa Barbara.
You actually took off on Runway 24L -- from the east to the west. The plane's heading as it rolled down the runway was approximately 240 degrees. The opposite end (closest to the ocean) of Runway 24L is Runway 6R. Runways are numbered according to their compass heading. Opposite ends of any runway reflect opposite ends of a circle, or a difference of 180 degrees. In this case, the difference between 24 and 6 is 18.
Thanks 4 your comment. You really don't need to worry, flying is so much fun -- just enjoy!
I'v flied twice with ja jumbojet, and it is cool at the takoff :D
@LTU932 row 29, an additional economy row in the rear business class cabin / Reihe 29, war eine zusätzliche Economy-Reihe in der hinteren Business-Class-Kabine
i flew with the same plane december 2007..and will soon fly in october 2009
theres a beach right next to the airport! wicked
Cool!!! Great vid, amazing vid in fact!!!! Thanx!
I dream to Go on this plane one day
yeah, the plane turned east just southwest of Long Beach
man that's a long flight
I don't think you can get in trouble for filming, but if the camera does happen to interact with the radio and stuff, you MAY be told to shut it off. :3 I'm taking off from LAX next week, and I'm hoping to film the takeoff. :D
Going to a better place
yep!
@sniperkillzzzzzzzzzz FRA is Frankfurt, plus I'm taking LH because of the excellent connection to my final destination, Hamburg (HAM).
taking off from that airport in about a day
@TheDreamConnection OK.
@umahuma4 it is SAFER only statistically, you may break all your limbs in a car accident and be ok in a year but you have no chance of recovering after falling from 30.000 feet ) I always take a car or travel by train where possible instead of flying )
Look at the smog.
@sniperkillzzzzzzzzzz LH isn't flying the A340-600 between MEX and FRA. Besides, people say the A340-600 is even more cramped than the 747. Thanks, but like I said, even with the inconvenience of 3-4-3 and the bad seat pitch, I'm fine flying on a 747.
After take-off, you flew south, did the plane make a massive left break after a while?
It's about 12 hours..
Which row was it? I'm flying on a 747 very soon and chances are that I may stay with row 36.
I'm on this flight in a few weeks. any recommendations?
oh i didnt know you were with Lufthamsa. see if you can get an a340-600
ohhh
Have flown non-stop to paris and london from LAX. Does anybody know why the jets furn counter clockwise or southerly instead of clockwise or northerly in the direction of Western Europe??? Seems like a lot of wasted gas turning southerly first instead or northerly.
because its soo long
@sniperkillzzzzzzzzzz Lufthansa does not operate the 777. Plus I never flew on a 747 before in my life, so the inconvenience with the seatpich may be worth it for me nonetheless.
what seat # ?
try and see if you can switch to a 777 those planes are very roomy and fly faster.
switch airlines? use Air France. wait are you going to france of does FRA stand for Frankfort
