The first time I ever flew into LA was in the summer of 1972, it was incredibly exciting! Air travel and LA are a very far cry today from what they were then. I miss those days.

Smoking on the plane, I remember doing that. Free drinks (Alcohol included on Air Canada in the 1980's). The food was MUCH better and every passenger was friendly and curteous to the attendants. Also, watching a movie on a pull down screen in the front of the isle! with those $5 headphones you had to buy LOL. And THE best part of air travel in those years? Getting through customs or into boarding lounges was MUCH easier, and faster!

Some 60 different cities are in the county.

What always impresses me about that approach is just about where you hit Big Bear lake, that near 70 miles of concrete expanse starts and really doesn't let up. I've flown into some of the biggest cities in the world and few have that constant circuit board that goes on and on and on.

@@wizardmix nope. It was glamorized by Hollywood, so it made people want to go check it out. But you get there and it’s a complete shithole. @@alexs3187 It's actually a very interesting city, with a lot of hidden character. Having lived there for a time, I can vouch forn that. Most of the places tourists want to see are complete let downs and I used to laugh at their looks of disappointment. It's odd and ironic to me that LA is judged outwardly for being shallow, fake and superficial. I've always found those people to be the ones who moved from elsewhere and thought they needed to behave that way. What's more, LA always seems to be judged by those who never get below the surface of it. Layover or long weekend types who think they can get to know everything about a place over a vacation. I used to like that those people were scared off. Those with not enough character and grit could go ruin San Diego or San Francisco (and have).

London is extremely more densely populated than Los Angeles so don't be too hard on your city. However Los Angeles and it's surrounding suburbs have a continuous density that gives an appearance of what I think is the largest city in the world outside of Tokyo in terms of urban continuous footprint

I’m from So Cal, and recognized just about everything on the ground in this video. While flying right over San Bernardino, being able to see Big Bear and the Lucerne Valley (aka high desert) right behind it all at the same time is kinda mind blowing. And just a few minutes later there’s the downtown LA Skyline. It would normally take about 2 and a half hours to drive that distance if traffic’s good the entire way (which it never is 🤣). And the Cajon Pass (aka “the hill”) which is visible in this video, which I have to drive up and down every day (which also sometimes can take a couple hours just to get through because traffic is Almost always bad in the pass).

You're not alone my friend. I get comments every day on my videos from people saying they're using my videos for the exact reason you list here. And I hope it helps when I tell you that many, many people have come back later to say they did indeed conquer their fears and anxieties by watching my videos and doing exactly what you say you are doing. I started this channel to share my love for aviation and travel with everyone, and helping people overcome fears and anxieties was never something I thought that would include, but I'm beyond happy that is is doing just that. My friend, if you ever have any questions about what you're seeing or hearing in my videos, or just general questions about flying, the process, or what's normal, do not hesitate to ask. There are no stupid questions here and I will happily answer any questions you have if it helps you conquer your fear of flying. Happy travels my friend, even if there just via my channel for now!

Last time I flew on an airliner it was 1994 coming home to Chicago from seeing Pink Floyd at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena. The aircraft was a United Airlines 727-200 and I was fortunate to be in row 6 where it was nice and quiet. I miss seeing the old three-holers, they were great as long as you weren’t behind the wings, very quiet.

I can remember going with my Dad in the early to mid-1940's in our 1941 Chevy sedan from Culver City where I was born & raised to what was then the very small L.A. Airport & watching the planes come in to land & take off. Howard Hughes's Hughes Aircraft plant was nearby near Playa del Rey & La Ballona Creek. Then in 1951 in the 5th grade in Mr. Mattheis's class at Farragut Drive School - we took a field trip to the L.A. Airport & took a Western Airlines plane ride out over the Pacific & Catalina & circled back over the San Bernadino Mtns and Big Bear - Lake Arrowhead - etc. - then over the L.A. Basin & landed. Then in the summer of 1953 my parents & I flew Western Airlines from L.A. Airport to Minneapolis to visit family in Minnesota. It wasn't until the 1960's that L.A. Airport expanded & became LAX. That entire area has morphed into a hodgepodge of rooftops - traffic jams that I would NOT want to live in or near ever again.

It has become such a pain in the ass to go anywhere now with the TSA, extra luggage fees, no dinner service, masks, and REAL ID's. But memories are great!
