Thanks for the video! Just swapped my worn out keyboard and found your instructions very helpful. Nice to know where all the screws and clips are located.

Is there anyway to disable the built in keyboard and use an external keyboard? Would it work if I unplugged the cable to the keyboard? I have a stuck enter key. I ripped most of it out and it still spontaneously sticks and presses it self when other keys are pressed.

All keyboards come with a data cable; if you're talking about the extra wire that runs the backlight, you'll need to order one that is backlit. eBay is by far the best place to find replacement keyboards at a decent price. Just be sure to check the box in the left column that restricts the searches to your own country because Chinese shipments can take weeks to arrive.

    Hi
I have a E6530 without a backlit keyboard. Can I upgrade it to a backlit keyboard by just changing the keyboards or is there more to it? Thanks for any advise you have.

I've not tried it on this specific model but both keyboards use the same single connection to the motherboard so you should be able to upgrade to a backlit keyboard. They're not very expensive on eBay so it's definitely worth trying. The only reason it would not work is if Dell programmed it to not work since it's not a backlit model, but that is very unlikely since it's one more thing that would have to be changed for every individual computer during manufacturing.
Short version: I haven't tried but it's very likely to work, so go for it.

I don't suppose you hoarded your old keyboard? If so, I'd love to buy some key caps from it. haha
