Great build! My son and I just built an ATX gaming system with the 5700 X3D, 32gb ram and a RX 7700 XT in the NZXT H5 and he is very happy with it! I built a 13700, 32gb ram, and RTX 4070 in the same A3 case. The mATX form factor is so under appreciated. I moved the power supply to right side of the cases next to the motherboard for easier cable management. 😊👍

I used to love building PC's but after 30 years, I have simply lost interest. However, I fully enjoy you doing so.

Really?!? After 30+ years of building I still love building them. I have numerous computers because I love building them more than gaming on them. I’m just not at home enough being a truck driver, I have the money now but not the time now. I always come home to a ton of parts that I bought while I was on the road.

Thanks for the mATX love! I think it provides the best combination of functionality, features and space efficiency. Most ITX builds aren't much smaller, once you factor in that you have to fit in a PSU and GPU. And you're generally more limited in expandability with the single PCIe slot and not much room for m.2. And cooling is a nightmare. I just wish MB makers wouldn't treat mATX like a red-headed step child. The release of X870/X870E chipset has zero mATX boards from the 4 major manufacturers. That's a shame. Just had to mention I wrote this comment before I watched the video...

The great thing about the higher end Asrock boards is they still have the m.2 slot for the wifi, so all you need is a wifi antenna kit if you do want wifi down the line but not have any PCIe slots available

My mATX build has the Fractal mini pop air case; only about $10 more when it was on sale, and comes with 4 RGB fans. It also has 2 "hidden" drive bays, so I could keep my DVD for ripping CDs. That might have been the only change I'd make

The B550M Steel Legend is such a good board for the money. I bought mine when it was fresh and the new hotness for like... $180, been an excellent part that I've been able to recommend over the years to several others. :>

I bought the B450 Steel Legend years ago and absolutely hated it, it wouldn't allow any type of overclock of my 3900x, so I ended up returning it. From what I've been hearing though Asrock has gotten alot better since the B450 days.

Good thing the pcie lane on this mobo is on the upper most slot. Most manufacturers on matx boards tend to put it on the 2nd slot, which is not ideal for beefier cards on a matx case

My previous build (~2017) was a micro-ATX build using a Thermaltake Core V21. I thought it would be cool to save some space and have a compact PC. But the experience was less than pleasant because I'm a big guy with large hands. My latest build (April) was done in a Antec P20C mid-tower (EATX). There's so much more room for activities! 😂

Dude, perfect build. I would have spent 30 bucks more (EU prices here) to get the 5800x3D just for the feeling that I have maxed out the platform. Paying extra for the GRE would not have been worth it IMHO because you are too close to the 7900xt then. So congratulations for a reasonable build with endless gaming fun!

i just upgraded to AM5 a few weeks ago and i was considering getting that Lian Li case but I don't like how the PSU mounts and I didn't know if my Arctic LF III AIO would fit in the case. I ended up going with a Lian Li Lancool 206 and the AIO JUST fits top mounted. The only thing I don't like about the Lancool 206 is it's a pretty massive case compared to what i was using, a Lian Li 011 Air Mini. I wouldhave stayed with the Air Mini but my 280 AIO couldn't keep up with my R9 7900X and a 360 AIO doesn't fit in the Air Mini.

I reused an old Insignia D300 tower that was mATX specific. I cobbled together some spare PC parts and only had to buy a motherboard. I chose a B450 chipset MB due to cost and upgrade path or lack thereof. R5 3600 CPU and my overpriced RTX A2000 6GB for gfx. 600w EVGA 80+ Bronze. 32GB RAM at 3200 MT/s (mismatched. Half of it is Crucial Ballistix and the other half is Samsung OEM sticks). Silicon Power M.2 SSD 1TB and Thermalright Assassin X120 Refined SE. MX-4 Thermal Paste. Nice console-like performance. Eventually, when I find an acceptable replacement, the A2000 will get replaced. Maybe a 1660 TI, 3050 or 3060 will be decent enough to game on without being a bottleneck.

overall nice build👌, one smal gripe i have is the top fans being intake fans and if there is a airfilter just get rid of it because of airflow restictions, so i myself would always make top fans exaust fans (because heat rises). but i guess its always preferance of each and everyone.

The title needs to be amended to reflect the budget. You do you, but there's a few components I won't cheap out on in a build such as a modular PSU and decent Ram. Don't expect the build to be cheaper just because it's smaller.

Nothing special, just an R7 1700 and a 5770 I have on hand. Gonna cheap out of the mobo and the PSU because this PC will rarely get used, but it will be a sort of built-up AM4 spare parts locker.

mATX is meh to me for the reasons you started with but the lack of expandability is on motherboard manufacturers not the form factor. Since crossfire and SLI is dead you don't need a ton of pcie slots so most of the expandibility is in storage and mATX has enough space to do 2 PCIe and as many nvme as full ATX.
