Wow! I can't believe I stumbled across this. I think this is the feature I've been looking for. For months, I would start a master page only to go in circles only to give up when it ultimately didn't do this feature. You've unlocked another layer in my brain. And more importantly, you've helped me "Check Box" another unresolved task. Thank you, RED!!

    This video 🤯
    So many useful examples.
I believe that the majority will use backlinking in a limited scope - just like you have demonstrated.
I will be watching this video multiple times, to implement these tactics for my BASB database.
    Thank you

hey, no idea if you noticed this yet or not, but you can actually see the full hierarchy of the backlink if you click the 3 dots on the top left, and then click customize page, then there is an option for backlinks, you change it to expanded so you can see the full thing, or you can make it be a numberfor the amount of backlinks, or the original way :) hope that helps anyone else, i figure you've realized that already lol

Love the fluid way you create and delete stuff. And your salient example applications of backlinking certainly address holes/needs in my Notion use. I have to date been colouring embedded questions in green (as in naive) and delimiting them (like any of my comments) in curly brackets. But wished for something more "semantic`'. So I will try using table(s) in the manner you demonstrated. Maybe it should be an Annotations database/table, with a property/column for type (e.g. question, addition). I'll have a play...
I guess to convert all my existing embedded questions etc. I would need to code something up using one of the API's (?). But having bust a number of informal deadlines on other aspects of life, that is unlikely to happen soon. Like the stuff you fluidly delete, maybe I should not be so "precious`' about preserving everything.

    Good stuff, Red! Thank you!
I can see myself using Backlinking for two things right away:
    1. The Chapter tags, like you showed. (That’s one of the main reasons I started using Evernote again, before making the switch to Notion)
    2. I’m going to add ‘sub-tags’ to my Master Tag Database.
Thanks again for the inspiration and all the effort you put into this. Cheers!

Is it possible to back link a word/phrase that is already written in, say a paragraph? Sometimes upon a second reading, we realise it could be related to another concept.

Very instructive - Thanks. The advent of bi-directional links raises the question, how would you setup a Map of Contents for say a second brain e.g. A page full of links or database list / table and what would be your considerations for a particular solution?

Hello. thank you for the video. it was very interesting and helpful for me. did you notice the line/little table which appears when you highlight a word or some? there is the word "link" also. try to use it. I use it in my planner and going to use it in my future zettelkasten

I was wondering Red , have you figured out how to use that inline Database template page trick inside a 'Filtered' Views linked database for creating New Records under the Filtered conditions but automatically using the page template?
That kinda Automation would ADD amazing flexibility to the linked database Functionality?

I'm new to notion and am a little unclear on how this differs from tagging. You touched on this early on, but just to make sure I'm clear: is the usefulness of backlinking the added flexibility to tag things outside of databases and page properties?

Hi, thanks for this amazing video! Even though I backlink five subpages to a page (e.g. 'bookmark'), on that I continue to see just 1 backlink. What's wrong with it? Is there any hierarchical limit to link multiple subpages of a common page, or its toggle lists, to a backlink page? Thanks!

    A small question;
The idea is...I have a page that includes some data (checkboxes, file columns, dates, etc.).
What is want to have a linked or a different page which shows me empty columns? Like a report page.
The second child or subpage must show me missing information in the first one using the key column on the first page. Is this possible?

Like the ideas! Do you know a way to gather the content of the backlinked pages? E.g. in one of your first examples showing all of the blocks where you said [[come back later]] on the „come back later“ sub-page? The backlinking, if connected to content kinda loses its power if I have to click myself though all the backlinks to see the content of the link. Thanks for your content!

  • @BrandonWentland

If backlinks existed when you started using Notion curious of you would setup things differently. Relations are powerful but can be tedious, complex, and not as flexible as inline.
Also you should checkout chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/evergreen-notes-for-notio/chhpogndpjcgjbnbcodhdnilklfanmfh - allows for Roam like backlinks previews.

    • @RedGregory
