    Wow. The comments you put on the screen are actually infuriating. I've noticed that it's almost like the harder someone tries to do the right thing (by making ethical choices, living more sustainably, promoting a healthy relationship to food), the more critical people become. People would rather shame strangers than actually look critically at their own choices and strive to be kinder and better. It's really a shame and at many points it's made me question whether social media is worth it. 😂 But I'm sure you know that many of us love and appreciate you and see how much you're contributing to the world. So grateful for your presence here and grateful that you illustrate that this lifestyle doesn't have one specific "look." 💕

      I agree, I was shocked when I paused and read the comments, even the ones who said they are not trying to shame you. It is none of their business, and most of what they said is not accurate. Weight and weight loss is a very personal issue and is a result of many things over many years. In my own personal weight struggle, I have come to believe that our bodies get used to being a certain size, or "set point", no matter how much or how little we eat, and I have been looking for how to overcome my body's need to have me be a certain weight which is more than I want to be and which is uncomfortable for me in many ways.

    • @UttkanthaS
      @UttkanthaS 3 года назад +16

      I paused to read as well, what struck me is not just the outright mean ones, but the ones where the bias is under the guise of "care" and "concern." I think that people tend to claim ownership of famous people, for the lack of a better word, and express concern in a really detrimental way that they have no business getting into. It makes no sense to me, what makes people think they're more concerned for Shelby's health than she is herself, and what a pathetic way to try to hide your fatphobia!!!

I can't stand when people assume I overeat or that I am lazy. My grandmother even called me food addicted when I was recovering from an ED.

There's so many reasons behind someones weight and there's sadly so many harmful opinions and stereotypes about it. I love seeing videos about what you eat and how you use the food you have, it inspires me to make more sustainable choices. Not that I was looking for someone who may be "plus size" but it was just nice seeing someone living this lifestyle and not be super tiny. Some people feel like it is "helpful" to comment on people's bodies and use rudeness to make a point. Personally, I feel like rudeness speaks volumes about the COMMENTER and very little about the person they are being rude toward. They don't know your journey or even your genetic disposition.
    As an athletic woman with PCOS, I always felt like I was significantly larger bodied than my peers despite having excellent performance in competition (skiing actually). It wasn't until my late 20s when I learned that my PCOS was linked to my high carb cravings and higher weight. I have since found a better way of eating for me that gets rid of the carb cravings but guess what -- I am still generally larger bodied overall. My body is just built this way.

    Ugh. F those people who think it's their business to comment on someone else's body. So goddamned toxic. Made me sick reading those comments. Thank you for sharing that and keep doing what you do. You're amazing and I love your videos. I'm so not no-waste, but I'm slowly making swaps as I run out of the less-sustainable options I've acquired over time. You're such an inspiration to me! ❤

    When I was young and very skinny, I didn't understand why others were larger even though I never went out of my way to be mean about it. Now that I've hit 40 years old and my weight is a constant struggle, I feel awful for ever thinking badly of people who have some weight on them. Now that I'm older, my body barely wants any calories and I need to work out 30 minutes a day just to not gain weight. At least this struggle has changed my perception, and I'm thankful for that. It's made me more open minded.

    I hate that you feel you had to tell people why you're not paper thin. The disrespect that heavier people get is just so normalized that those of us that are not a "normal" weight feel the need to justify why we're not thin. I'm sorry Shelby, people need to mind their business and focus on the awesome info you give on this channel. You owe nothing to anyone, you're awesome girl! 😄

    Honestly anyone who focuses on your weight is not worth your time. I learn a lot from your content and your efforts to promote a sustainable lifestyle are inspiring to me. I REALY love the documentary style videos you have been putting out lately.
    On another note, have you and Madison checked out Chicho Boys? It's a small business on South Laredo St that sells produce that grocery stores won't buy. It's like imperfect foods but local. It's super cheap too. I like to go whenever I can, and since my mom lives close by it's where she gets all her produce. 😃

    Seeing people make comments like that... the ignorance is real. I am a recent dietetics grad and the language some use toward weight hurts my brain. As someone who has read and worked with research regarding weight, weight gain, weight loss and weight maintenance, it is NOT always as simple as eat better/fewer calories and workout more. There are so many other aspects that go into weight fluctuation (sleep schedule, stress, psychological, biological, medication interactions, disease interactions, genetics, and the list keeps going) and it is an uneducated opinion that weight is always in our control or modifiable through diet alone. Keep up the awesome work with balanced, plant-based meals and sustainability! I recently found your channel and I am so thankful for the helpful resources you bring to this platform.

    This is such a important subject, I really thank you! There are so many assumptions that are made over having a fat body, last week I was listening to a podcast, wich I highly recommend, it's called maintenance fase, and it was saying how there are studies that show that losing weight is not necessary a symptom of starvation, how not eating can mess with your body and still keep you fat, wich just show you how weigh is NOT a indicator of health in any shape or form. I hope your food is bringing you joy.

    Like you said there are SO many factors that go into someone's weight. I personally have a lot of bad habits to kick when it comes to eating healthy and sustainably and honestly my overweight husband is much better at it than I am. Plus I don't understand how it's wasteful if... you're eating it...? It's not like all that food is going in the trash. It's going into your body to help you function properly and healthily. Different bodies are going to take different amounts of calorie intake to do that, especially since there are people who use a different amount of energy during the day as well. There's SO MANY FACTORS!!! Please know you just need to take care of you and I always enjoy seeing your food videos. Very inspiring for meal ideas.

Your personal life and your body are yours and I’m so sorry people feel entitled to question you like that. I especially hate the comments that use your “health” as a reason for commenting. We know it’s their biases coming out to play. I wish they’d just say it with their chest and stop pretending it has anything to do with health.

    Hi! I've never been this early so you might actually see this! I want to thank you for all of the work that you do on this channel and all of your other various social media platforms. I think it was Plato in Meno's Paradox who said "I don't know what I don't know" and you have opened my eyes to so many of the impacts my choices can have on the environment I didn't even know could. I've been loving your informational, almost documentary style videos recently. I would love to know: What do you suggest for over-the-counter medications, like pain relief, allergy meds, etc? Is there a more sustainable option or brand or swap we can make on that front? Also, I'm sure you already know this, but your relationship with Madison is adorable! The way you two interact cracks me up!

    You are such a strong and empowering personality Shelby, so many people fail on social platforms because the trolls get under their skin. It’s sad that we live in a society with such ugly people but you have what it takes to see beyond that and do your thing. It’s one of the many things I admire about you. For what it’s worth, since stumbling along you channel late last year and binge watching you and now religiously watching both channels, my “zero waste” journey has skyrocketed. I’ve become a vegetarian, our waste and consumer purchases have been intentional, ethical and lower waste and I’ve even signed up to back to do postgraduate studies in environmental sustainability. It can be hard teaching others about health when I don’t look like what society has deemed as “healthy” , but weight is NOT a behavior and weight is not the measurement of what is healthy or not. We have so many healthy habits we can participate in and not even touch our weight because it doesn’t matter. Thank you for being a beautiful example of being confident in who you are. You inspire me!

    Wow your garden is so nice!! I want to live somewhere I can grow my own food too... Like I can grow some food (carrots and sometimes cucumbers) but I live in an apartment and my balcony is not having it with food and it gets super cold until the end of April... This year I'm trying to grow little strawberries, I'm not really sure how it's gonna turn out (I hope they don't die because of the cold weather...)
