"They all come packaged in single-use plastic which isn't recyclable really anywhere." It's when I watch videos like this that I realise how lucky I am to live in Sweden. We have a law where companies have to take responsibility for their packaging - meaning that they cover the cost of recycling them, and must have the recycling instructions on the packaging itself. Household waste is separated into plastic packaging, paper packaging, cardboard, newspaper, colored glass, clear glass, metal, compost and "miscellaneous waste". All of these are recycled into new packaging, except the compost (which is made into natural gas that can then be used for fuel - for example for most city buses), and the misc. (which is incinerated for energy recycling).
That sounds so amazing. Waste is a big problem in Bhutan. We import lots of things from India and other neighboring countries. I read Sweden produces very little waste.
It's not economically recyclable. i.e. it's either being sent abroad where it's probably incinerated or it's using more energy/fossil fuels to recycle than incinerating.

these comments are so judgemental! who cares about the avocado sticker, how much trash have YOU produced today? judge yourself before you judge others. she shouldn’t have to be held to an impossible standard- she’s making a difference and that’s more than all of us viewers can say.
nicole but she’s known for the trash jar method (and preaching it), but does it really count when you just get rid of the waste at the store you buy at just soYOU don’t end up with the waste at YOUR home/jar ???... and there were more than one rumors in the past that her (then young) business is getting rid of the (Asia wholesale) packaging before the products were presented to the customers.... yes people are very critical and judgmental with her since she’s picturing herself in such a role model position.... for example: it would have been nice to see her explaining to search for stickerless options with the avocado ... that would have been a great tip, and I have seen other ZWer teach that since there’s always some products that already lack the sticker 🤷♀️
We recently started saving things like washed egg shells, coffee grounds, veggie scraps, and banana peels. We put these in a "compost" pile near our garden. Our chicken love this AND it was absolutely shocking to see how much we were wasting by throwing everything in the trash. It all starts with baby steps and every baby step counts. Do not be discouraged! God bless!
I absolutely love what she stands for and just her whole approach to zero waste living however.. Please someone tell me I'm not the only one that thinks she has not eaten enough food for a whole day?! Like a salad and then 2 tacos? Girlll. That's like 1/4 of my daily good intake 😂

not true at all, I am a student at nyc and I never had breakfast with little/no lunch for the past two years. TheDarkPhoenix16 30-40 minutes once you get the hang of it? When you’re used to 1 minute in the microwave as the definition of “super fast and easy” that’s a long time. When you realize it usually takes that much time to pickup or get delivery, then it’s more even and makes sense
Oh my gosh. I have that same set of colored bowls that I inherited from my grandparents 20 years ago when I was 35. It does not take "zero time" to prep vegetables. It doesn't take a lot of time, I'll give you that. But prepping also implies a lot more clean-up after. This is not to say it's not worth it, for the environment or your wallet, but sometimes time and energy make a bigger impact on our decisions depending on what else is going on in our lives and our households.
@@alexandratrifilova4369 I am thankful that I'm not disabled, and I'm thankful I'm currently in a situation where I do not need to buy pre-cut fruits and veggies. Not commenting on how realistic the lifestyle she's describing, but just the food she is consuming/promoting within this video itself, aka the trendy avocados, are generating tons of industrial waste and encouraged so much more deforestation in places of production as compared to other nutritional substitutes.
In agreement with most of the comments below, but also want to ask why this cooking video doesn't feature any major proteins? No eggs, legumes, tofu... she ate two glorified salads, and I really wish we had higher standards for cooking videos of this sort!
Love this. The city I live in has outlawed plastic bags for shopping, so I've learned to bring my own. I like the pretty ones from the container store. need her silicon bags for lettuce, etc. Coffee grinds get tossed in my yard, no composting needed. Not there in many ways, but like she said, anything is better than nothing.
I really wish to live this way and I try however I can. Reusable cups, tote bags, mesh bags, washable plates, reusable straws, less food only whats needed, bamboo toothbrushes, but it's really hard when SOOO much has plastic anything. Not really. Reusing items rather than throwing them away costs less money, not more. If you live somewhere that doesn't sell fresh vegetables without packaging then there are often other options, such as growing your own. One of the best parts of cutting down on packaging is that it costs you no money to get started.
Wow the level of disconnect front he comments it's real. 13 yo you can do this bc you only have to provide for yourself (barely). Good for you hone those behaviors at your age so you aren't suffering in your 30s. And the other options of packaging free food is a lie. When you live in a housing complex in a food desert sometimes the apple slices in a macdonalds meal is all you get. I grew up poor and I'm middle class now. I can tell that a lot of what I've been able to achieve in this journey comes from having income.

Carbs aren’t bad for you... and we have to keep in mind that she doesn’t eat like that everyday.... we all have high carb days, high fats days and high protein days... it’s normal
People are unnaturally obsessed with protein. It is not the end-all be-all of nutrients. Sure, it's important to have balance and some protein in your diet, but if you are living a life of clean eating (non-processed), low-fat, low processed meat, low-sugar, and high vegetables and fruit, you are consuming an extremely healthy diet. So what if she has a bit more rice or corn now and then. Her diet is very healthy!
For sure this was a ridiculously low calorie video, regardless of macros this was not enough to sustain an adult woman. I realize she may not eat like this every day but if you are making a "what I eat in a day" video, coffer, a salad and two small "tacos" is not realistic.
Wendy Sullivan I never said it was low calorie which makes it healthy. I said it was clean, plant-based eating that makes it healthy. And I eat like this every day, and I have for years. it’s perfectly sustainable and I am very healthy and an average size.
Those tiny cutting boards cause me anxiety...I want her to use a larger one, not balancing food on those small boards as she’s cutting. Haha!! My issue...
so grateful that my area in canada has a composting program - they collect garbage every two weeks to encourage people to use the green bins (which are picked up every week along with recycling) because if you’re not composting then your garbage STINKS after two weeks of rotting

I really admire the way she does. Now Im trying to tell all my family about how to recycle atleast doing something that good for our world. And I don't use any plastic bags anymore🌍🌴
I think it really depends on your day regarding breakfast. If you get up at 6 am, go to work and then have your first meal at lunch every day it will seriously affect not only your work but also your body. Low blood sugar, tiredness, unproductivity.. Worst case it will affect your organs and your brain! True fasting for 12-24 hours once a week can be good for you, for sure, but if you skip breakfast every day it seriously can mess up your day not having the energy you need for the rest of the day. I skip breakfast too, sometimes but not every day, sometimes I get up at 10-11 am, and first eat at lunch, sometimes I will get a cup of coffee at when I get up, and then eat an hour or two later because I'm late for school or work or I'm just not feeling hungry right when I wake up, that's fine too. But not every day.
i don't trust her. not from the beginning and especially not after robert tolppi's analysis of 'mason jar of waste' mentality and the wastefulness of her store
This is totally true, it is figuring out your own way to being more eco-friendly. It is not a good option for me to go zero-waste, but cutting down my waste, like recycling my plastic bottles, which I ALWAYS do! And I also make sure to use a reuseable drinking bottle whenever it is possible for me to do so. I also tend to try to not order more than I can eat when at a restaraunt, or if I do, and it comes in plastic, I wash and recycle the plastic. That is a pro-tip. Just because you got a plastic take-out container, does not mean it gets thrown in the garbage. You are eating that leftover, so once you move that leftover to reheat in microwave, or move it to a dish to eat it, wash the container out, and put it into the recycables to be reused. I also shop at a store that does not use single-use bags, so you do use reuseable bags. I would not say I am zero-waste, I would not even say that I know the "zero-waste" lifestyle. But I have learned what it takes to do good to our planet, and my family and I recycle everything that is humanly possible to be recycled, and I have seen what a big effect that it has made on our eco-system, and our planet, even just what our household does. The factor is that recycables are collected where I live 1 day every 2 weeks, so its one week its not collected and the next week it is collected, so, when it comes time to put out the recycables, our house puts out TWO HUGE recycable bins, and then sometimes we even have another 3-4 garbage bags full of recycables, and some people only put out 1 plastic bin and its typically only halfway full, they throw so much away, into landfill that could actually be recycled, and our recycable men and women even notice that we recycle a lot and they commend our house for doing it, and noticing what is able to be recycled and what is not, and they even say that its nice to see someone that just doesn't throw everything to landfill. So its nice to know that we are doing a difference or a change in our community.
Came from her another interview. I think a lot of you need to know that she said she won’t tell ppl how to live but instead she want to show there are more options! Also, she reckon that companies should definitely held accountable for their products while they try to shift the responsibilities of recycle to consumers and government ! This way the companies will start to produce more environmentally friendly products. At last, I want to say, there is no need to feel obligated to do this perfectly. However if you start to do this there’s definitely gonna be a change!
a lot of tortillas come in ziplock bags that are easy to reuse. i use them to freeze veggies when i have more than i can eat fresh. i use the same bags for years; single-use is something you have a choice in!
I love your lifestyle! I've used your videos in my classroom to teach my students to be more eco-friendly. They loved the class!! Love the idea behind this and learned lots of wonderful tips to start decreasing my waste but I do think it's important to note that some people have no choice but to live on packaged foods because of how cheap they can be and how quickly they can be made. Also, processing isn't always super unhealthy and organic isn't always healthy. Health buzz words should be assessed on a case by case basis.

The fact that she didnt wash those veggies before cutting them makes me uncomfortable
Same here 😅
They're organic lol

She probably washed off-camera beforehand
these comments are so judgemental! who cares about the avocado sticker, how much trash have YOU produced today?
judge yourself before you judge others. she shouldn’t have to be held to an impossible standard- she’s making a difference and that’s more than all of us viewers can say.
nicole but she’s known for the trash jar method (and preaching it), but does it really count when you just get rid of the waste at the store you buy at just soYOU don’t end up with the waste at YOUR home/jar ???... and there were more than one rumors in the past that her (then young) business is getting rid of the (Asia wholesale) packaging before the products were presented to the customers.... yes people are very critical and judgmental with her since she’s picturing herself in such a role model position.... for example: it would have been nice to see her explaining to search for stickerless options with the avocado ... that would have been a great tip, and I have seen other ZWer teach that since there’s always some products that already lack the sticker 🤷♀️
Some stickers are compostable, so you don't even have to peel them off the skin.
I don't know if this one is though...
👏👏👏👏
The whole thing is that she shouldn’t claim to be “ZERO” waste when she’s clearly not...
People are aloud to have opinions the defer from yours.
God bless!
You can also scatter eggshells closely around your plants to keep slugs away.
I absolutely love what she stands for and just her whole approach to zero waste living however.. Please someone tell me I'm not the only one that thinks she has not eaten enough food for a whole day?! Like a salad and then 2 tacos? Girlll. That's like 1/4 of my daily good intake 😂
You're right
Freezing bread is a game changer. Cut/slice bread, freeze on baking tray, put in silicone bag, take out and toast when you are craving some carbs! Best way to make sure it doesn't go to waste.
Heather Cammarata-Seale You can even freeze in cotton bags!
She's very informative while being so approachable--very inspiring.
Her dog is so precious. Patiently standing with her paws on the counter! I followed her insta and excited to try some of these tips
Anyone else feel like this isn’t enough calories to sustain a person lol
Siba no, all people require a minimum amount of nutrients a day and this did not even come close...
Lol I feel like I eat less and I’m ok many people do t eat enough food , like she said she forgets to eat. As do I and a few ppl I kno
It’s enough for her. She’s pretty thin and probably doesn’t work out a lot. Plus, she probably eats other food that we don’t see.
not true at all, I am a student at nyc and I never had breakfast with little/no lunch for the past two years. It was not a choice, it was what we had to do because of our schedule, it's not a healthy choice but our body adjusts slowly and over the years, I changed my diet and I feel great. Everybody has different needs for the body.
@@kaylzzzza that's not true either. Personally the amount she packed is too much for me as well.
That bag for a head of garlic was funny... I never use a bag for garlic! It’s got that darn peel that protects it.
ummsulayman it’s for the smell
It’s a reusable silicon bag against the stink of garlic 🤣
@@alysal2589 an unpeeled head of garlic doesn’t smell that much. I throw them unbagged in my tote with the other groceries all the time. No issues at all.
She is definitely admirable for her commitment to this but.. where’s the seasoning and and those vegetarian tacos are... nope
Exactly!!!!
And isn’t a refined flour and water “tortilla” (if you can call her abomination that) just unhealthy?
@@daniellemendosa2748 a small amount of refined flour in an otherwise whole food, unprocessed diet is not unhealthy.
Also the only protein she ate all day came from mini mozz balls?!
@@pb.j.1753 yes i really really want to know about the protein
People really need to cut it out with the rude and judgmental comments🙄. People see someone on YT who’s zero waste/low waste or minimalist and if they aren’t 100% perfect then you judge their lifestyle like go have several seats please, we’re human damn🤷🏾♀️🤦🏾♀️
Robert tolppi made a video about her. She lied about her waste and has a company that sells a bunch of useless, expensive things that apparently “helps” you go zero waste. She deserves the judgement when she preaches how good she is when she isn’t.
Thats because they call it “zero” waste, and they don’t i mean if they said little waste, green at least but they put themselves in an irreal place
The problem is that she implies she is near perfect with that little mason jar, when it is an utterly unrealistic representation of her trash.
she is seriously a delight. plus that DOG
I’ve seen loads of her videos now, she’s amazing! You should a beauty routine with her
Check out her website: trashisfortossers. She has a beauty and skincare video under “toiletries” section
Hahaha "my dinner is super fast and easy"
**Starts homemaking tortillas**
No hate, I love her! But that's hilarious.
its actually really quick because they are so thin, and im sure she only makes a batch of them around once a week and freezes the rest so she doesnt make them everyday!
No they really are super fast and easy. Once you get the hang of it if you make a small batch like I do it can take like 30-40 minutes. They cook about 30 seconds to a minute on each side.
It is hilarious that your lazy ass find them difficult to make 😂😂 baby there are millions of people out there who find this and similar dishes simple because of culture , habits ,etc etc
TheDarkPhoenix16 30-40 minutes once you get the hang of it? When you’re used to 1 minute in the microwave as the definition of “super fast and easy” that’s a long time. When you realize it usually takes that much time to pickup or get delivery, then it’s more even and makes sense
i did that the other night because i didn’t have any and i was too lazy to go out and buy them lol.
Oh my gosh. I have that same set of colored bowls that I inherited from my grandparents 20 years ago when I was 35. Recently , I’ve divided the set among my grown children because we all get one and we all have memories attached to them as well as continue to use them daily. It’s a such a lovely emotional gift to be in each other’s homes and see them being used. Definitely Zero waste!
Karen Wang I am sorry, but if you are not disabled there is really no need to buy pre cut fruits and veggies.
@@alexandratrifilova4369 I am thankful that I'm not disabled, and I'm thankful I'm currently in a situation where I do not need to buy pre-cut fruits and veggies. But I also have family who lived in a food desert where all the produce readily available was packaged and pre-cut. So I think we can all be a little more open-minded about other people's individual situations.
Something seems off about this. Not only the fact that it's impossible to make that little waste, also the way she eats she should be like, super skinny, which she isn't. Don't get me wrong, she looks great and doesn't need to lose weight but I counted her calories and they're below my BMR and I'm pretty short.
it's for camera, this is her perfect day in a perfect world. she doesn't actually do this every single day, ain't nobody got time for that. but she's showing what we can strive to be
what i eat in a day, breakfast: i don't eat breakfast lunch: i forget to eat
great thanks this was so helpful...
i can’t get over how absolutely stunning her hair and skin and clothing and just overall appearance is, and all of that is done without any trash WOW
This woman is my hero. Truly inspirational.
I have been following her for awhile. She is amazing! Great tips.
She’s lying, she doesn’t actually make that little trash,go watch Robert Tolppi’s video then reply.
YES!
I JUST saw that vid and came to this ahah
Haha just watched that and then it recommended this after 😂
Omg I made a comment about that too lmao
RIght? Like doesn't Cholula come with that little plastic sleeve on the cap, don't remember seeing that in her mason jar.
I think advocating for less waste is definitely beneficial and so is all the work she has done but it's important to be more realistic so that the people who try this out aren't burnt out after 2 weeks.
I order second hand clothes online and never thought about asking the seller to not include plastic! Thank you for the tip!
People seem to be very negative towards this video like listen to what she's saying she's not saying you must avoid plastic or you're killing the planet she's just trying to be plastic free and asking others too honselty it's not that hard when you plan things out you just need to get in the habits of things
I love Lauren! I follow her on insta. She’s not snooty and understands that her lifestyle isn’t for everyone. She’s spreading awareness about a very important issue and with her online store, she’s making zero waste easier for people
0:33 “Starting with breakfast, which I haven’t eaten since I was probably an infant” - had to replay that WHAT
I was like "WHAT?!" too!
I love stuff like this-learning how to be more sustainable and new yummy foods to nourish my body for a healthy lifestyle. It makes you feel great and balances your hormones. I don’t understand the need many people have to comment on how much someone eats or criticize them for being healthy it is so strange.
Bravo !!! It is wonderful and refreshing to seecontent that is impactful and inspiring. We need more of that type of content. We are already inundated with beauty treatments and makeup hauls. Let's educate our people!
I really thought i was gonna hate this... but she is so real and just relaxed. She seems so kind and not like your average full of themself blogger. She is so genuine and bubbly at once. I really felt like i could do some of this.
Off topic but can we talk about how pretty she is? I mean!!
I do not take any bags. I love helping mother earth. No one needs bags. total waste. This is so inspiring thank you blessings
“ I just call it a big ass salad..... with bread” lol we need more people like her!😂
This woman is my hero. I've been watching her videos for years! Didn't think it was possible until I heard her story
Was anyone else just focused on her dog when she was cooking😂
6:20 insert cutest dog ever jumping up to find her lunch.
I refuse to believe that she’s never had a busy day and grabbed a sandwich or something lmao. Perfection is an illusion
I've made breakfast sandwiches the night before and put them in the refrigerator so that I could grab them and go the next morning.
No reason she can’t have a sandwich. Go to a restaurant and have a sandwich, eat a sandwich at a meeting - all still no waste sustainable.
Also a tip for the bread! You can toss it in the freezer and take it out when you’d like it next and it won’t be stale!
Okay, but...she has the most flawless skin😍 drop that skincare routine sis!
I love that you put facts and tips into this video it made it so much more helpful
I like the energy of this clip. it’s light, clean and bright.
I really wish to live this way and I try however I can. Reusable cups, tote bags, mesh bags, washable plates, reusable straws, less food only whats needed, bamboo toothbrushes, but it's really hard when SOOO much has plastic anything. I wish my family was on board but they're too comfortable with their lives...So I try what I can.
Markets in my country are opening no waste sections, where you can buy candies, pasta, rice, vegetables, cereals etc by weight in your own containers so I'm very excited about that!
That dog is like a human! So much personality!
Did I seriously get deep into the comments just to not have anyone mention the Caroline Calloway original tittay painting???
girl... you have the LUXURY of doing all these things because ur rich LOL
Avery take small steps watch videos and do more research I'm only 13 and I'm on my way and I have come so far dont give up if there is a will there is a way too😊
@@HK-nc7fr Not every country is the same. Maybe in the US but in other countries people grow food and buy less packaged stuff especially if they are poor.
@@mignonnesilva4306 and I am making comments for the U.S. because she is in New York. I'm not referring to any other country. I'm well aware that things are different outside. Rose the dog was really into it, rescue dogs are the sweetest !
All that is great, however you need time. When you work for 9-10 hours a day and need 2 hours to go and come back from work, all that is a bit too much
Not really. She gave tons of alternatives and solutions. You can go shopping once a week, if you store produce properly or meal prep it can last all week.
Freeze cooked food
Meal prep is life changing!
I’m doing 45-50 hour work weeks plus full time school (which is flexible, thank god) and meal prep helps a ton. I’m not zero waste completely but every little bit helps
Baby steps =]
I have the same antique bowls! My mom, and all the women in my family, get a set when they turn 18. I don't know how it became a family tradition but it brings us a lot of joy.
does anyone know where her dresses are from? I'm obsessed!
I'd starve. Two meals per day consisting of very little protein, a lot of simple carbs (rice, tortillas, bread) and a lot of oil - not the most nutritious in my opinion.
Carbs aren’t bad for you... and we have to keep in mind that she doesn’t eat like that everyday.... we all have high carb days, high fats days and high protein days... it’s normal
And yeah sure, maybe that was too many carbs but she never said that she was a dietitian sooo😅
Haha!! My issue...
THANK YOU HB for publishing this! We need more visibility into sustainable living
Her hair 😍
I remember watching her videos when I was like 15 or something. Wow still going strong with no waste. Very inspiring
As a Mexican I am offended by that “tortilla”
so grateful that my area in canada has a composting program - they collect garbage every two weeks to encourage people to use the green bins (which are picked up every week along with recycling) because if you’re not composting then your garbage STINKS after two weeks of rotting
The fairly local vegan is another great zero waste channel
And she has kids!
She’s not vegan anymore
Love this! Have been doing minimal-waste for years! And now that the trend is taking hold, I don’t feel so “weird” at the grocery store, LOL!
I can’t imagine myself making my own tortillas while being hung over. 😂
Can we talk about how fabulous she looks? Love all the outfits!
She sounds like Kylie Jenner
I love when your featured celebrity includes their dog….I love animals
That was such a cute dog !
I know that she is already busy but if someday she comes up with some kind of cooking series I would love to watch it. It would be so helpful to learn how to cook without producing any waste, I feel like I make more waste in the kitchen
I’m kind of curious how she deals with her dogs bathroom habits and what she does with it does she compost his uh waste?
Isabela Hart simply by Christine just made a video about being zero waste with a dog.
I think Lauren's Package Free Shop has a zero waste kit for pets and pet owners! I could be wrong.
I have a dog and we have a composting system specifically for dog poo at our house, the only time we use plastic bags for it is on walks. Not sure how it would work if you live in an apartment or can’t get your own system thing...
@@kirstenm9538 you can use newspapers as well! That's the most sustainable alternative I've found
Dulce Medina aw thank you! Didn’t realise
I'm just start my compost a week ago and i can see how much plastic remains on my trash bin. Composting is a wow! And obviously going to a market and bring your own pocket is a must. Looove this video.
It depends on we’re you live. Buck to when I was living in a big city following a more zero waste orientation, it was very easy. Now that I moved for uni to a small student town, sustainability is very hard.
I finally made my own tortillas not long ago, and it tasted so much better than the ones I bought at the store and the texture was also nicer.
Yeah, she is def full of crap. She makes less waste, sure.
Im gonna try to be more sustainable but its hard cuz my family doesn't care, but hopefully once I move out I can be much more sustainable.
Do you eat the stickers on the produce too?
a lot of tortillas come in ziplock bags that are easy to reuse. i use them to freeze veggies when i have more than i can eat fresh. i use the same bags for years; single-use is something you have a choice in!
I love your lifestyle! I've used your videos in my classroom to teach my students to be more eco-friendly. They loved the class!! BUT I would so starve on your diet...not trying to talk shit.. cause' it all looked super tasty but..just saying. I'd eat way more.. Continue being such a great role model!! Aloha from Brazil!
She's compassionate, beautiful and smart 💜
Serious question: how does she get rid of dog waste?
Love the idea behind this and learned lots of wonderful tips to start decreasing my waste but I do think it's important to note that some people have no choice but to live on packaged foods because of how cheap they can be and how quickly they can be made. Also, processing isn't always super unhealthy and organic isn't always healthy. Health buzz words should be assessed on a case by case basis.
