These recyclable 'zero waste' products are produced in factories which emmit waste. I think that even if you do half of the things that this girl does (because of economical or practical reasons) it will still have a great impact. No excuses! :)
This is all great, but remember that corporations are the main cause of waste in general! If you want to think about it based off of a ratio, for every mason jar of trash people produce, a major company produces on average seven jars worth of trash. Upstream waste in manufacturing is a huge problem no matter where you shop from. Hold companies accountable while doing what you can within your means! You don’t have to buy products from a company to start a zero waste journey. Don’t let trash jars and elitist attitudes within the community stop you from being more eco friendly. Anything helps:)
the problem with reusing your own jar say at a place where you wanna get that smoothies, a lot of businesses would turn you down for "hygienic and health" reasons even if you claim your jar is clean. the food safety agency or the health department would penalize a business if they go along with this.
You're definitely wrong! The employee that turns you down is ignorant. If you ask for the manager or a DIFFERENT EMPLOYEE you will be served and get the smoothie in the mason jar.
tootsie|troll® then why aren’t they allowed to wash the jar themselves?! That would make the jars clean, and if they couldn’t do that, then that proves that their own containers aren’t clean either, meaning they care 0% for hygiene. So why don’t they just clean the jar themselves?

By reading some comments I'm really surprised by how harsh and mean some people can be. What Lauren Singer is doing is fantastic, and definitely not easy, because the society is designed in a way that is almost impossible to live a perfect "zero-waste" lifestyle for us commoners, but I see that she is really trying very hard to do her best. Instead of criticizing and being an annoying nitpicker ("your suppose to replace your menstrual cup so that's not true zero-waste blablabla"), why can't people just appreciate her and recognize her for this hard choice of lifestyle? Maybe her lifestyle is still far from being "perfectly zero-waste," but at least she lives by her values, in contrary to people who haven't even TRIED to live an eco life before open your mouth to criticize her. We need to encourage and support people like that, and also do our best to live by our values.
I love watching zero waste people in their daily lives. I wish I could be this good at it!! You have to be so aware EVERYWHERE all the time. If only everyone cared and was this aware.
She mentioned in one of her own video's she throws the condoms away, because of hygienic reasons (it is the only thing that does not go in her jar I believe)
You automatically no packaged or junk food if you live this way. I did raw veganism with my family for a year and packaging waste was drastically reduced -- we didn't always buy bulk oil and sea weed and things like that and so there was waste but very little. It makes you feel pretty good all around.
Myanameis Beestingz At the end of the year, I did a really intense cleanse with my family called "arise and shine" for a month highly recommended by a fellow raw fooder. After that I had bad constipation. I went to a few doctors and got my blood checked. I was anemic and constantly tired after that cleanse and a naturopath (in the Chinese tradition) decided I probably should start eating some meat. That cleanse knocked me and my family off the raw band wagon. We've tried several time to get back on over the years, but I find I manage best if I keep sugar very low, completely avoid alcohol (as I've discovered after a *really* bad candida flare up recently) eat heaps of fruits and vegetables (raw or not) and eat meat sparingly (one or two times a week).
DiscoveredNotCreated If you go vegan you should be taking supplements so you aren't anemic. It's very doable and perfectly safe but you need supplements.
she's soo sweet n cute. i think what she's doing is teriffic 4 the environment! i try my best to recycle as much as possible but woah, i dnt think i can ever go as far n extreme like her. I give her so much credit tho, she must really care for earth. We need more people like her. She probably could be vegan to.
I worked in food for years and my coworkers and I could not care less if someone brought their own container. An employee has to go grab a container, anyway, so being handed a container by the customer actually saves/time effort. It's not rude. It might be awkward for you, but you'll feel better about it the more you do it. :-)
Wasn't this exposed a while ago? I mean, that's entirely impossible to have this little waste, What if she accidentally broke her phone? That wouldn't fit in a mason jar. She's only regulating and choosing what she puts in the jar. The real waste she's producing is seven more times than what she's showing you and the truth is that after she advertised her company, it became more apparent she's not really into this reducing lifestyle, she's just trying to buy into it, the best example might be the condom packs she sells at 5 dollars for three in a tin. Which is very little product to splurge on. And I Which is essential the same to every other drugstore condom but with fancy packing. How about the containers that hold these Tins? The shipping? She outright claims this is ALL her trash but is that really the case?
Maybe there's more trash she is producing but I think this isn't the point of the video. The point is she's making a conscious effort to try as much as possible to produce less waste. Even if she is producing more than she claims she is, she's still inspiring others to at least try. The takeaway is not about whether she is actually producing so little waste, but about the conscious effort to save the planet as much as possible. We don't need one person going waste free perfectly. We need the entire human population to do it imperfectly.
She's only outsourcing her waste and reducing her daily trash. Water, electricity, clothes, tools she uses, are impossible to produce without waste. She buys them and acts like 'zero waste' is a valid thing. She didn't even talk about medicines or the condoms until it was brought up.
Gotta admit, she is super impressive. She is super committed to living a zero waste life and I love her passion towards saving the environment.
I thought the lifestyle seemed really approachable too.

That was funny

Its often smaller shops that have this kind of system in my experince or what about a street market for at least some of the items.......
Any Food 4 Less, Whole Foods, Sprouts, or local farmer's markets around your area?
I’m in Asia and our supermarkets don’t have those either haha

This is all great, but remember that corporations are the main cause of waste in general! If you want to think about it based off of a ratio, for every mason jar of trash people produce, a major company produces on average seven jars worth of trash. Upstream waste in manufacturing is a huge problem no matter where you shop from. Hold companies accountable while doing what you can within your means! You don’t have to buy products from a company to start a zero waste journey. Don’t let trash jars and elitist attitudes within the community stop you from being more eco friendly. Anything helps:)
Agree with you! We need to vote with our wallets
the problem with reusing your own jar say at a place where you wanna get that smoothies, a lot of businesses would turn you down for "hygienic and health" reasons even if you claim your jar is clean. the food safety agency or the health department would penalize a business if they go along with this.
You're definitely wrong! The employee that turns you down is ignorant. If you ask for the manager or a DIFFERENT EMPLOYEE you will be served and get the smoothie in the mason jar.
Ionela Fessler I totally agree with you! And I know at Starbucks you can bring your own cup or metal straw and they never turn it down
@@hakunamatada178 I gave it a like ;)
Definitely true, i often get turned down
tootsie|troll® then why aren’t they allowed to wash the jar themselves?! That would make the jars clean, and if they couldn’t do that, then that proves that their own containers aren’t clean either, meaning they care 0% for hygiene. So why don’t they just clean the jar themselves?
So you’re telling me she also never broke at least one mason jar in those 2 years??
Arianna Affandi i just thought the same . 😅 and what happens if something’s gets broken like a fridge or something like that
Nessa C.R. Yes exactly! let’s say she tore a shirt and it’s completely ruined what does she do?What if she breaks a hair tie? What if she accidentally dropped her makeup, what does she do? I’m so confused 😅😂
Even buying makeup products don’t they have a cover to protect it?Where does she throw it?
Arianna Affandi yeah ikr haha I really thought the same so actually it’s not really true that she only has one jar with all her rubbish 😂😂
Arianna Affandi Glass and metal can be recycled, fabric from old clothes can be reused, and there are sustainable alternatives to makeup and hair products.
These two are so aesthetically pleasing together. This is my 6th time watching this video
it really bothered me that she did't say please when she ordered the smoothie
What if people come to her house and like need to throw away a feminine product😂
Maggie Schumann “put it in the jar”
Ema McCollom lmao
No biggie she can reuse it. Just toss it in the jar with the plastic straws and the used condoms.
By how kind and accepting she seems, she probably does put out a waste basket when she ahs guests over.

You don't even need straws! There are so many things that people have grown to believe are necessities, and they're not
Yes, it is not necessary to use straws but it actually is beneficial. Dentists suggest using straws so that less carbonated drinks stain your teeth and produce more plaque.
+Alex M. Or, don't drink carbonated drinks :)
Touché!
bebe4235 that too
straws are actually better because they prevent sugars and carbonated drinks from getting on your teeth and causing problems. and i just like straws. be quiet.
"Ill have the same."
"Do you know whats in it?"
"No."
The power of a pretty girl!
Hey can you please tell me the recipe for that dinner? It looked amazing
DIVA cups are awesome even for people who aren’t zero waste. They’re better for you and the environment!
Except maybe research what cup would fit your body best, because I know the DIVA brand ones are fairly long and wouldn't work for everyone
I try to do the same. So impressed that a young person like you wants to change the world for the better .Rhonda
unrelated but Lauren and the interviewer look like a couple.
The stickers on fruit/vegetables are food grade. They can be eaten/composted.
flirt game strong at the end ;D
She is very beautiful and her message is too.
So she saves all of her used used condoms in a jar
No she throws them out, she said it was the one of the only things she produced as trash
Freezed condom yum.
I am still working on reducing my waste. We have gone from three bags to one bag of trash. Can't image a jar! Inspiring.
she is so glowing - i think I am in love - her smile, her compassionate easy tone, her priorities - I get her and I belong to it...
She's a hero of mine
If everyone generated even 10x her trash it would be a better world.
Sometimes when she talks and laughs she remind me of Alicia Silverstone
I love watching zero waste people in their daily lives. I wish I could be this good at it!! You have to be so aware EVERYWHERE all the time. If only everyone cared and was this aware.
Who came from Robert Tolppi’s video?
I thought at 6:28 the condoms would pop out
She mentioned in one of her own video's she throws the condoms away, because of hygienic reasons (it is the only thing that does not go in her jar I believe)
So many guys are obsessing over her condom use...is it just because she's pretty?

The Bachelorette: Saving the earth edition
You automatically no packaged or junk food if you live this way. I did raw veganism with my family for a year and packaging waste was drastically reduced -- we didn't always buy bulk oil and sea weed and things like that and so there was waste but very little. It makes you feel pretty good all around.
+DiscoveredNotCreated So why did you stop?
Myanameis Beestingz
At the end of the year, I did a really intense cleanse with my family called "arise and shine" for a month highly recommended by a fellow raw fooder.
It's very doable and perfectly safe but you need supplements.
am I the only one who kind of ships them? o:
composting isn't rotting, it's the use of worms and soil to ferment organic matter and process it into topsoil
?? What do you say ?
Composting IS rotting, helped by the action of worms... etc
That is, as definition, rotting...

I actually really appreciate her for this I want to do this when I move out tbh but not too extreme...
This is so eye-opening! I try my hardest to keep down on waste, i would love to take this challenge up on my channel!
i would feel so rude asking for them to put it in my cup lmao
Send this to the clueless at Fox...

She's so inspiring... I'm definitely looking into reducing the amount of waste i produce on a day to day basis!
