      Oh yeah? You're back there? Cool! It's kinda funny filming like this, cause you never really know what's going on back there. I can't really pay much attention to the background during filming... One time, I had a bison just stroll right through Grand Prismatic while I was filming, and I never knew it till I put it on a larger screen... I was like, Whoa! Crazy!

    Hey PJ! Oh my word! I saw you at the teepees! 😃 I live in West Yellowstone and I popped into the Park on Friday afternoon. I saw the teepees at Madison Jxn and had to check it out.
    I heard some talking and looked over to see a guy in a snap hat, blue shirt and small black bags. I saw a sweet motorcycle in the parking lot too.
    I did not put it together until I saw this, of course, that it was you! 😃 I'm sorry, I would have said hello and thanked you in person for all your great coverage of the Park during the flood and thereafter. It was nice to see the Park while it was closed and I appreciate your demeanor and the time you take to provide valid information and fun facts about the parks. Thank you, PJ! 😊

      Yep, I have no problem with reasonable fees that stay in the park. Too often now with the reservation systems, the actual res fee money is simply going to a corporation. I got a permit from the ranger station at Bridge Bay a couple weeks back for that Heart Lake overnighter. The ranger asked for my email, I gave it to him without really thinking.The fee was $15. Got my receipt and there was a $5 permit fee and a $10 res fee. I asked the ranger about it, and he told me that is why he needed my email, as even the rangers at the backcountry desk have to go through rec dot gov. That's who gets the $10... The park gets $5... 🤷‍♂️😒🤨

    Thanks for the update. Nice work. Just spent 3 days in Grand Tetons Colter Bay and it was fantastic! Third time visiting since 15’. Hiked Garnet Canyon past the Meadows campsite. Those boulders were most impressive among so much more. Drove around YNP Lake for a few hours out the eastern entrance. What a magnificent scenic route that was into the Shoshone NF & Cody, WY. Glorious trip to Bear Lodge, The Black Hills, Crazy Horse & Mt Rushmore, Custer State Park, the Badlands at sunset coming from Red Shirt & White River entrance to the loop. Started our summer by spending a week on McDonald Lake during the Canadian & American Independence holiday- the level of water was like being there in April/May. Lucky me, 21 days later I went back to Glacier for 5 days solo, w/o wife & daughter, primitive cabin in Many Glacier & full cabin in Rising Sun. What a trip! I hiked Ptarmigan Tunnel, Piegan Pass from Josephine Lake to Mt. Cataract, scrambled Mt. Oberlin late afternoon to sunset. Hiked Highline trail to Grinnell Glacier overlook. What an incredible summer it’s been for us in the National Park System.

      Yeah! Sounds like you set up a great summer for yourself! I love roaming around like that... I generally turn left or right at a stop sign depending on how I feel, so that always increases the adventure aspect of the trip. I love heading up to Grinnell Glacier, I actually took a dive there a couple years back. It was bitter cold, but the summer sun warmed my bones in a few minutes and I was all the better for that experience. Glad to hear you're out there getting after it! Nicely done Puppettasker!

    • @theparkjunkie
      @theparkjunkie  2 года назад

      Yes, they received an implant group of nearly 20 wolves a couple years back. They were down to two…
      With an estimated 1,600 moose…
      Without the wolves, the moose pop shoots outta control, then they eat everything on a small(ish) island & starve. So that’s why they elected to bring in more wolves.

    • @steveegbert7429
      @steveegbert7429 2 года назад

    • @Backroad_Junkie
      @Backroad_Junkie 2 года назад +2

      About 2000-3000 feet higher, too. And Bryce has little oxygen! 😁
      Bryce and Cedar Breaks are pretty much identical. They're the same layer of rock, it's just Bryce is on the Southern side of the Markagunt plateau, and Cedar Breaks is on the Northern Side. But that's the reason they look remarkably similar...

    • @theparkjunkie
      @theparkjunkie  2 года назад

      Yes, Cedar Breaks is an awesome lil park. It is similar to Bryce, but is somewhat different as far as terrain is concerned, as Bryce is much more conducive to exploration and hiking. Cedar Breaks is much more dramatic however. That entire cliff line from Cedar out to Strawberry Point is absolutely gorgeous...

    • @theparkjunkie
      @theparkjunkie  2 года назад +2

      So Backroad, the Markagunt holds Cedar Breaks, but Bryce is actually a different plateau, the Paunsaugunt. They are very much alike, but the Mark has much more of a volcanic structure out around Navajo Lake. I've crawled through more than my share of volcanic lava tubes up in there. The Paun is much more docile, with very little, if any, volcanic rock at the surface level. You are correct tho, as Cedar Breaks and Bryce, are the same rock layer, sitting high atop the Grand Staircase, which is one of the most glorious geologic features in the west, if not the world...!

    National Park Mountain is not a mountain, lol... (Why that fact sticks in my head is a mystery...)
    Given the proximity of Lake Mead and Vegas. I'm surprised they haven't found *more* bodies. Of course, the desert is also a fine place to put unwanted... problems...
    Interesting about the night events at GSD and Bryce. They sound cool. One of the darkest (least light polluted) areas of the country is supposed to be around Goblin Valley State Park in Utah, about halfway between I-70 and Capitol Reef. I've always wanted to be there on a moonless night, but the last time I was there was on a full moon...
    Moab was flooded out yesterday. (Lake Powell needs the water, lol...) That may disrupt traffic going into Arches, Canyonlands and Dead Horse Point today...

    • @theparkjunkie
      @theparkjunkie  2 года назад

      No, NP Mountain actually appears to be a mesa from below, but I haven't been up there yet...
      I think they've now found at least three bodies down on Lake Mead, all thanks to the receding water... 😳
      & you are certainly correct, Goblin Valley is an absolutely amazing place! I stay near there a bit in both Canyonlands, and south of Factory Butte, at Swingarm City, an off-road vehicle rec area just outside Cap Reef. That entire area is absolutely DARK at night! The only light anywhere around is from the stars... period. Those full moon nights are fun too... we usually go out for night hikes or rides down there during such times...

      Lol, Thanks for your confidence, but I'm actually a horrible guide... I've lost my group before while off exploring the underbrush... 😳
      Just kidding, but sorta...
      That's part of the purpose of the hiking videos & the website... Don't forget to check out parkjunkie.com/

      @@CollegevilleJohnnie No, sorry to say, but I’ll miss you. I’m here for another week as I have a friend visiting, but then on the road… It’s getting cooler in the SW, so I’m headed to Utah in Sept!
      However, I think Yell will still be fabulous by then, & the crowds will be a non-issue!

    Happy Saturday Todd! Those teepees look nice, but I think they'd look a lot better with some Native American designs painted on them (maybe that's on the agenda when the tribes come in?) When I heard about the shoe/foot discovery, the first think I thought of was the book "Death In Yellowstone", which I'm sure you've read. Speaking of Lake Mead, if the water level drops much more the B-29 that crashed in 1948 just might become visible. Thanks for the news review!

      Happy Saturday Yawn! I’m hoping those things get dressed up too. But it does strike a classic scene that feels like it coulda been 150 years ago… or more.
