    Thanks so much for spreading the message, Todd. We should be shocked, but I think most know how the mighty dollar rules the country; so sad. My wife and I were at the Smokey Mountain National Park this weekend and observed some interesting changes happening. When you enter, a large blinking sign tells all that parking permits are now required in the park. As we travelled through, we saw workers driving wooden posts into the ground creating barricades in many of the pull-offs you used to be able to park in. I feel certain that this is to "funnel" cars into the permit required parking areas. I also wouldn't be surprised if our senior lifetime passes will soon be revoked so we can generate more money for Booze Allen Hamilton. Folks, this is only the beginning. I will certainly forward our concerns to the appropriate parties. Thanks again, Todd.

    Truly great piece, man. Bravo! In addition to regular app fees, recgov is taking in a windfall on non-refundable lottery app fees; river trips, popular hikes, the list goes on. Many lotteried permits are reaching the less than 1% chance of obtaining. The math is staggering, and was obviously on Booz's radar when they sought the contract.

    Good Job Park Junie. So crazy to see you in a "real Den" and not in your natural habitat lol. Park Junkie you would be a perfect representative to visit D.C. and talk to that new lady running BLM, Director Tracy Stone-Manning (she's been in since 21) and give your every day guy's point of view on this. There is no question you have the credentials to do so and nobody can say your love for our parks is not fact in evidence. I know it's a lot and I'm certain it's not something you would want to do, but when you speak on location that love for the whole National Park experiences comes across 5x5. Any way, good to see you Park Junkie and I'll sign mine when you put it up. Lastly, thanks for taking this on,
    Simon

    Thank You!
    I've hated these "fee's" since the beginning. To the point that I (now) avoid any national parks requiring them. I used to go to Yosemite several times a year. Haven't been since entry feee's and the junk attached to them were instigated. And that's a shame because it's a magical place. I have my senior pass and after looking forward to using it in my retired years to afford Park visits I now see additional fee's that, in essence, drive me elsewhere. IF I can even get in due to over-reservations. I go to mostly BLM lands now.
    I've felt these fee's were a scam from the beginning. Now, thanks to you, there may be a direction out of this.
    A correction/elimination of this practice does need to be performed. I've subscribed to your channel for follow up!
    10 years of privateer profiteering from our national parks is enough. Fire them all. End the windfall contract with Booz Allen.

    Again, this is a bunch of crap. Think of it this way, the government put out a call for bids on a contract, and the bidders either asked for more money upfront, or more fees they can charge per transaction. One way or another, the contractors, like all government contractors, are making a profit. So if you don’t like the fees, then more of your tax dollars go to the contractor up front and in the end, you still provide a profit for the contractor. At least fees target the actual user of the amenity, and not just the general populace of taxpayers.

  • @ponderosopine
    @ponderosopine Год назад

    It's true that it's not capitalism, but that's because it's rent-seeking behavior. Fees (a form of rent) technically aren't profits because profits come from the workers who utilize capital to produce meaningful goods and services. BAH is just sitting on our public lands like a government-sponsored landlord and collecting rent to produce nothing.

    First it was Ticketmaster with their fees and scammy ticket presales, now it's RecDotGov getting their grubby hands into business of park access. Thank so much for your effort to raise the public's consciousness on this issue.
