Todd - Kudos for your concise and informative report. Since the river background would probably suggest that you did not have use of a teleprompter, and there was no indication of using hand-held notes, I must say that your rapid-fire delivery was quite impressive. Amazing - keep up the great work!
Thanks Bob! I did have a rough bullet list of what stories were coming up, but I couldn't read my own writing... so it was pretty useless....so I just went with the wing it strategy... Glad to hear you're enjoying the PJ Channel!

Hope you have a great visit to our country and Yellowstone. Will be seeing the park for the first time myself in early September and I absolutely cannot wait! Safe travels!
Thanks Lonesome! I appreciate you tuning in! We'll probably have some fun weekly info here on the NP News Roundup! There's always something crazy going on out there in the parks.

Thanks John! I'm pretty stoked to get this news segment going... I've always thought there were stories that no one heard coming from the parks, as they get little coverage from any news outlet. So, let's just cover this stuff right here... 🤷♂️ Glad you find the channel enjoyable! Thanks for the feedback...
awesome update, Madison river looks full and flowing well, I like the pullout for Mt Hayes and it is peaceful there, I once got a few pics of elk forging the river at that spot at dusk. Thanks for these videos, YNP is my happy place!
Fantastic report, as always. Big Bend is my go-to park, I did field studies there and fell in love. The Mexican black bear population has fought its way back from the brink, so while closing the only campground that gives respite from the heat is inconvenient, it gives the bears a safer alternative to do their business and move along when they realize its not a food source.
Good point on the food... I do wonder how many of these things are in that area. I've never seen one, but a friend who was hiking ahead of me on the south rim trail saw one before I got there. She said it was about the size of a large dog... I love Big Bend too... Great Texas getaway... but it is out there!
I was just a chisos basin campground 3 weeks ago, and there were a lot bears. Mamma and 3 cubs wandered into my campsite, Benny was on a leash but alerted, the bears came within 6 feet, I stood up waved my arms and they left. 6 hours later a small male did the same thing. I would sit in the evenings and watched the bear show across the ravine until it got too dark to see. Good trip!
No kidding! Wow… I’ve not seen a bear yet there, but a hiking partner of mine did on the South Rim Trail. It is wild that they are just roaming around camp now… That campground is cool! Great view of the Window!
@@theparkjunkie yes it was pretty cool. We saw bear almost everyday for a week. We were camped low down in the park, spot 58. The rangers said that due to lack of water in the higher elevations, they were using the ravine as a trail to the water. Saw them on trails as well as alongside of the roads. I didn't spend much time on the trails as dogs aren't allowed, even on leash. Lol, I'll be posting a utube vid later this month on the trip to Big Bend, Guadalupe, Cap Rock Canyon, white Sands and Apache Campground outside of Cloudcroft NM. My first if I can figure out how to edit it properly lol
@@travelswithbenny3328 That is absolutely insane that you saw a bear every day…! I sure hope to see a bear down there, hoping to visit this winter! This is a great addition to your channel ! I really like hearing what's going on in the other national parks. My husband and I have visited a lot of National Parks over the years. But Yellowstone will always be our favorite. It has everything you could ever want to see. Love seeing all the wildlife. Great job with your channel 😊
Thank you! Yes, I am always interested in what is going on in the range of parks. I can never pick a favorite... Actually, a top ten is even pretty stressful for me... 😳
Thanks Sharon! I must admit, these scenes are everywhere, and it's easy to feel as if you're a "good photographer" when you travel around the park... 😂
Very cool location for your post. It is my understanding that the Washburn expedition with Langford developed the idea of the national park system not far from the location of your video! We all know 1872....but I believe the birthplace idea was close Madison/firehole a few years earlier. Dang.....love these videos! Keep em coming!
Thanks for the input! Yeah, that history is pretty interesting. That idea was spawned in-part, by the railroads. According to Ken Burns' NP Doc, the idea was first presented to Ferdinand Hayden, by a railroad lobbyist named A.B. Nettleton. He suggested that Dr. Hayden should press Congress to pass a law protecting the park in his report to that body upon completion of his 1871 Geological Expedition to Yellowstone. The same is true for Yosemite, as a Congressman from southern Cali, named John Conness presented the idea for Yosemite to Congress... he was a lawyer for the Pacific railroad. Thanks for your comment! I find that early park idea stuff fascinating....
@@theparkjunkie glad your into the history as well. There is a ton in every National Park! Thanks Todd. I like the Roundup format, looking forward to more. Good job! I imagine the Lamar area wildlife are enjoying a reprieve from the Summer tourists, especially the city slickers who have no clue how to behave around wild animals. I wonder if they could use trail cameras instead of trapping to do the count? Unless they are wanting to tag at the same time. It seems like it would be a lot less stressful to mamas as well as cubs.
I imagine the Lamar creatures are indeed enjoying some level of peace, but there is a ton of road construction going on up there now... I wonder if they enjoy that... 😑 Not sure about the camera idea... I bet they do a pretty thorough health examination on the bears during their capture. But it probably does induce a significant amount of stress on the bears. I wonder how long they remember that sort of encounter....
Todd love your work, I visited late July thanks to your videos I never knew about the Grand Canyon apart from that other one 🙂 The Grand Canyon was the highlight for me. I rode in on a BMW 1250RT from Cody, apart from being really cold compared to the days before, the unsigned large pot holes and large cracks in parts of the park were incredibly dangerous. I wonder what the parks position is on this? Keep up the good work really enjoy the videos. My only other stop was Old Faithful for breakfast I enjoyed waiting in the shade on the Lodge's balcony, I will return with my wife, not on a bike 😞
Hehe, yeah, those Yellowstone roads have a few sketchy parts. I think they were on the repair list for the year, but the floods put them on hold. Glad you enjoy the channel! Thanks for the thoughtful input!
Damn. Park Junkie almost looks respectable, lol. And nice choice for the background! Nice format. This a new concept for the channel? (I'm slowly catching up.) I like it. I don't have to catch all the park news in bits and pieces... Yep, disaster in Death Valley until the flowers start blooming, then the media will be all, "Ooooo" and "Ahhhh". I'd really like to see what the park looks like right now when it's moist... All the time I was in Olympic it was sunny and nice. Over in Hoh, they had a sign waaaay above my head that indicated the amount of rain they get per year. I didn't believe it, lol. Olympic's an underrated park...
"Almost" respectable... 😎 Olympic is one of my top 5 parks... Not sure where it is in that list, but it's absolutely incredible... One of the most diverse parks we have! I can't wait to get back up there... Maybe next summer, as I'm overdue for another visit!
@@i70show All good i70… I try to stay far away from the courthouse, cause it usually costs some form of money to go there… taxes, or registration fees, or attorney fees… 😠 Let’s just stay in the parks eh?!? 😇
Lol! No, didn't shave it... but lowered my ears. I didn't even think about it before posting the vid. I do shave my head occasionally, but not this time. Yeah! Let's make the news FUN!
Yeah, they could still be dangerous, but they are small. Larger than a big dog, but nowhere near as big as the bears up north. Still, not to be underestimated, they are bears after all...
Hey Todd, happy Friday! Nice cap! Gotta hand it to the crews for their work to get those roads open so quickly. After those monsoons in Death Valley I wonder if it's possible to kayak at Badwater like people did in 2005. Say, I know you're more inclined to do backcountry hikes, but would you consider a visit to the Sheepeater Cliffs area? Those basalt columns are pretty cool.
Hey Yawn! Thanks, that's my "driving cap"... but it sometimes doubles as a moto cap, cause I can pack it in the tankbag, and it doesn't get smashed like a ball cap. I am probably willing to make it over to the Sheepeater area... we'll see if we can fit it in the schedule!
@@theparkjunkie thanks for this park update segment. We will be visiting the park late September. Your hikes have allowed me to visit areas I could not hike to. Your delivery is informative with a bit of humor too.
@@michaelstefanski494 Oh Thanks! I have been roaming around the west side… West Yellowstone is my current home, with the Park Junkie maproom comfortably stationed in the shade of a nice campsite! Hit me up if you’re over this way! Cheers
That is the Racetrack! One of my favorite areas of Death Valley! It's a haul to get out there, but there isn't anything else like it... Those rocks actually move about the playa during rainstorms. The place floods, the dirt becomes slick mud, high speed winds literally blow the rocks around on the slick wet mud & they leave trails behind them... How cool is that?!?!
We had a little last night, but nothing like June.... 😳 Glad to hear So Utah is getting a bath... We need some real rain down there, better yet... snow this winter!
Haven't gotten around to this video yet (life sucks sometimes), but I did notice Practical Engineering put up a video on what happened within Yellowstone during the flooding. ruclips.net/video/SH9r94NkZpE/видео.html It's also a pretty good newbies guide to the park, lol...

Lol! No, didn't shave it... but lowered my ears. I didn't even think about it before posting the vid. I do shave my head occasionally, but not this time. Yeah! Let's make the news FUN!
What overall size are the ‘small’ bears at Big Ben? If they closed the campground I would think they’re a bit dangerous, no?
I am probably willing to make it over to the Sheepeater area... we'll see if we can fit it in the schedule!
nice to see you ,,, doctor …
My Man... How is your volcano over there in the Canaries?
@@theparkjunkie extinguished . Fun’s over . :(

Are they releasing them or keeping them for observation?
They're releasing them, but first they are checking health, vitals, & radio tagging some of them.
@@theparkjunkie thanks for this park update segment. We will be visiting the park late September. Your hikes have allowed me to visit areas I could not hike to. Your delivery is informative with a bit of humor too.
this is cool = thank u for this 👍👍 care for an ice cream cone🍦🍦
I love ice cream… after a long day on the trail… ah…
@@theparkjunkie that is true = keep water close by if ur on trails plz
Great video where are you working?
Thanks! I am currently planning to hit the road and am happily unemployed! NW roadtrip coming soon, if the fires allow it. 😳
@@theparkjunkie good luck we have been driving around Yellowstone alll week trying to buy Park Junkie a beer
@@michaelstefanski494 Oh Thanks! I have been roaming around the west side… West Yellowstone is my current home, with the Park Junkie maproom comfortably stationed in the shade of a nice campsite! Hit me up if you’re over this way! Cheers
Lucky you.
Some daze… 🤷♂️
DID ANYONE NOTICE THE ROCKS ( 7.00 MIN ON TO THIS VIDEO ?
WHAT DO YOU SEE BEHIND THEM ?
That is the Racetrack! One of my favorite areas of Death Valley! It's a haul to get out there, but there isn't anything else like it... Those rocks actually move about the playa during rainstorms. The place floods, the dirt becomes slick mud, high speed winds literally blow the rocks around on the slick wet mud & they leave trails behind them... How cool is that?!?!
@@theparkjunkie very COOL, glad I noticed thanks
Ya getting any of this rain . S.Utah is swamped!
We had a little last night, but nothing like June.... 😳 Glad to hear So Utah is getting a bath... We need some real rain down there, better yet... snow this winter!
@@theparkjunkie this is Mickey yep I’m in Brianhead running a restaurant. We’ve had rain 25 or last 20 days !!
@@mickeynolan1559 Mickey V?
I’ll try to stop by in Oct!
Haven't gotten around to this video yet (life sucks sometimes), but I did notice Practical Engineering put up a video on what happened within Yellowstone during the flooding.

It's also a pretty good newbies guide to the park, lol...
Yes, that was an insightful production, he sets the bar high. Provides a nice overview of Yellowstone!
I trust you will find some relaxing hours soon Backroad!
