i'm living in Tehran-Iran , i never had a chance to go to a concert or festival. here they won't let the musicians play & never let the bands perform live. me & and so many other metalheads never allowed to get the visa or something to get someplace like Wacken or festivals like that. that is so sad. and when hansi sings "In a world far away , we may meet again" tears are all i see. not just because we're stuck in such hell, because i know someday soon we will meet again & sing the bard's song out loud once & for all.

Since you have to live it would it be wrong for me to say you and others like you need to take your nation back? I know you had the chance in 2009 but got no help from obama when he could have. It is such a shame that you and many millions of others have not had a chance to really experience what Heavy Metal is. Videos are nice and all but live shows need to be experienced in person.

As an American, I have to say I am SO envious of the fact that Europe embraces the metal genre more than we do. That crowd is amazing!!! Thousands upon thousands there and ALL of them singing the Bard's Song word for word! Brings a tear to my eye.
Been there, done that and i just cant stop! Got my ticket since almost 10 months.... Hyped af since day one! It really is an amazing feeling to share that moment with 75k people from around the globe. Im thankfull to have the biggest and best metal festival in the world in my country.... I could spend hours just with telling stories about what i experienced there all those years.... Metal =❤

I've seen some people call it lazy when Hansi lets the crowd sing but honestly it's just fucking magical to me.
I hate to use this argument, but the people who say that it is lazy don't get it. It's not as great listening to it now, but actually being in the crowd an singing the song with 70.000 people is just magical. I've yet to experience something to match that feeling in a live concert, even Maidens Fear Of The Dark can't hold up in my opinion.
I so much agree with you RODisGod, i were there on both of them, i hadent even heard about Blind Guardian before i found my self at the concert. And i stood almost as close to the entrance you could and all were singing there too, yes even i sang along, even tho i've never heard the song before. I'm not a fan of this group, but I was at a show of theirs with my best friend just the other night. When they wrapped up with this song, it really felt like it wasn't just the band there to play, and the fans there to listen, but that EVERYONE was the show, and the connection between the crowd and the band was just electric.
I saw them last September, and although there wasn't a crowd like this one, our venue was absolutely packed. Getting to be a part of the Bards Song live was one of the best things I've ever experienced. Cant tell you how lucky I feel I was able to be apart of that.
it's fucking magical. in October this year i had sung a cover from The Bard's Song (in the forest), when i started and all the crowd started with me, i lost myself in the moment, the song, the crowd, everything was like in the fantasy books, where the hobbits, dwarves, men and elves come to see the Bard's Song.

I will never understand how musicians don't just melt into a puddle of tears when they hear a crowd of thousands sing their songs back at them, that they wrote probably in a garage somewhere. Amazing.
The tearing up probably wears off after the first several dozen concerts. 😀

So damn right. The bards song is my daily goosebump ritual. I could honestly sing it all day and it would never get boring!
That's the beauty of music like this, it's always sung from the heart and soul and nothing (language, culture, religion) can keep the people from singing it in unison wherever they are simply because it resonates with us on a primal level and brings us together in a way that nothing else ever can. One of the ultimate expressions of love and admiration not only for the musicians but also for the countless admirers of said musicians all over the world...

2:10 - The fact they could keep the guitars harmonized in time while the crowd were clapping at different times is incredible.
They are professionals. And Wacken is large enough that the speed of sound can be observed in the audience. So what the artist hears may be very different from the recording: they focus on their monitors.

Im 15 , i live in Tunisia in north africa , so basically i have never been to a big concert even tho im a huge metal fan , i only watch gigs of local bands , so seeing 70 000 people there in Wacken , singing along , flashing the horns , witnessing the greatness of heavy metal , while not being able to be there , it sucks , it really does.
Knowing that people like you, in a place where metal isn't as strong as in other parts of the world, share the same spirit is a beautiful thing! Stay metal and do the best you can to push your local scene. Metal from Africa still is a rare thing and rare sounds are getting more and more interesting to the audiences of bigger metal countries. Bands from Egypt and Botswana for example already made it to German festivals. Horns up!
Nothing to regret... Blind Guardian concert on Wacken was so shitty sounding that I simply run away.
This was my 5th concert of BG and one of the worst concert in terms of sound quality I ever was :(

It sure doesn't sound shitty, but absolutely awesome in this video and on live stream! There were a couple mic glitches (during "Fly" and "Time Stands Still") but that doesn't make the entire concert shitty. Every time Blind Guardian played Wacken they killed it... check their 2007 performance! Maybe I'm biased because they're my favorite band, and you evidently don't like them much?!? Or did you mean that you were so far away from the stage and maybe somewhere much off to the side of the speakers that it sounded bad ONLY TO YOU because of that? Don't blame the band or Wacken for that. \m/

This brought an actual tear to my eye. I´ve read somewhere, that when you set foot on the festival ground for the first time and you be very quiet you can still hear them chant...wow, the chills are real! Have yet to make this experience. One day Wacken, I´ll be there!

I fucking love Hansi even when I can't understand what he is saying!
At the beginning he said that they're glad playing at wacken and he'd like to let the audience keep on screaming, but they're running out of time. Further he said that the majority will know which song is coming up and that this song was time and again legendary at wacken and he got the feeling that today will cap it all of.
After the bard song he said that this time was more awesome as usual and they had a awesome time at the stage, that they're always liked playing at wacken, but now is the time to move on and then lets get crazy for a last time and so on...
And last but not least in the middle of valhalla he started with saying: "looks awesome, sounds awesome..I think marcus worked hard enough and we're ready to bring frederik into the game, therefore you should get a little bit louder. At 11:19 he screams "Impressive", at 11:23 "gimme all" and at 11:55 "Sing us down from the stage"..

I swear this is more than just a good song, there is actual magic infused with that melody, in that voice and acoustic guitar. I've never heard a crowd sound so good and clear between so many notes like 3:40 - 4:00. Like the song was masterfully crafted to still sound amazing even with massive crowds. It's hard to describe the genius and beauty of this song without coming off really pretentious or annoying

I do not intend to take back anything, but these guys have some practise. This is Wacken. Blind Guardian is headliner for one of the days basically every other year. Like, it is customary, it is a tradition for this festival that if possible one of the festival days ends with everyone going to Blind Guardian at the main stage.
If there would be a time machine, this one performance would be one I would go back to. This happens only once in a lifetime. Truly historic.
This makes Wacken different from any other metal festival... actually different from any other festival in the world. It's magical..

I've been living more than 15 years in Germany and hearing this song in concert in Stuttgart is one of the highlights: Hansi barely sang couple of sentences, the public singing all (me along). A feeling that cannot be described with words.So fucking intense!
I grew out of my Power Metal phase but there's one band I keep coming back to : Blind Guardian. All their albums from the 90s are incredible!

I had the honor of being in one of those metal crowds and sing bards song, something you can never forget.
I was there, it was more than epic and i won´t forget this moment in my whole life.
Idk why it gets me, but people showing so much love and singing along makes for the best moments
The amount of symphony these guys can pull from a audience is unreal. Valhalla still gives me goosebumps

That was in fact really cool. I was not expecting the Portuguese "Obrigado" in the end. This was a fantastic concert....Wacken is simple amazing!!

Good choice! I want *"A Past and Future Secret"* to be played at my funeral (possibly the video of it from B.G. Open Air 2003 in Coburg). Not saying one is better than the other, just for some reason that one appeals more to me for my funeral. Maybe in the end I'll tell my family & friends to play both, heh. Can't wait to see *The Bards* live in October & hear both those songs + entire IFTOS album & all the rest! \m/

Watching The Witcher I couldn´t stop thinking of The Bard´s Song.
Year after year the sound quality of the band just doesn't get any worse. Drums, guitars and vocals keep getting better and better. Above all they are very professional.

I can just imagine how the staff at Wacken feel every year when they get a crowd this freaking amazing. I love the Wacken crowds I so badly want to play Wacken one day and also feel it from the spectator prospective!
My 3yo is soooo in love with this video, that I've heard the bard's song more times in 7 months than the last 20years I think... And it still gets me every time \m/
I am loving BG since their first album. I remember BG were on tour with Iced Earth. One year after another. And I was living just over the Street from "Rockfabrik Ludwigsburg" and could visit all the concerts they played. Now i am 40 years of age and still remember this great moments BG gave to me as I was a teenager. TY guys !!!!

I watched this vid on the live stream in summer on arte and a few hundred times after here, it always shared tears from my ears, so heavy, I was at woa in 97 and 2000 but never had an live experience like this of course

When I was 14, my mum came with my to a Guardian concert in Belgrade for company, because we had free tickets but my friends weren't into metal. Most songs went over her head, but the Bard's Song stack.

Auch geil war dieses Jahr, als Demons and Wizards Valhalla gespielt haben, und die Crowd danach weitergesungen hat und Hannsi eigentlich ne Rede zum nächsten Song halten wollte, die Crowd ihn aber nicht gelassen hat und er einfach nur: Scheiße, ich hab die Kontrolle verloren

Saw this on TV last year when on vacation in Switzerland, all other forms of entertainment was international programs dubbed in german, this was a godsent.
I had a crazy teacher at the high school and she showed me this band so here I am 10 years after that, still listen to this masterpiece
If you are not a heavy metal fan, you don't fucking get it. It's life-changing. Once a metal fan, always a metal fan. 103 years old and your great-grandson saying "My band is going to cover Blind Guardian in the school talent show!". Upon hearing that you get up from the wheelchair and you are ready to go!
Man...i had tears welling up in my eyes singing along to The Bard's Song. Just got into 'em about a week ago/Somewhere Far Beyond is a great album and I GOTTA check 'em out more
