"there is nothing so fleeting yet enduring about the way music feels when you are 17 years old" probably the best quote ever about music
Im amazed they not only let Alex back in, but let him have the microphone on stage again lol
They mention “Neil who’s not with us tonight” we all thought it was because his insistence on privacy.....or that he’s retired....low and behold he was battling brain cancer and he’s gone....RIP Neil Elwood peart. The greatest of all time. Including yes as well
Rest in peace Neil...you will be missed
RIP GOAT NEIL PEART
FWIW I think that even if he hadn't had been sick, he wouldn't have come. It's the type of thing that he skipped many times before. Still can't quite grasp he's gone btw. This one is going to take some time.
Sean Rock
😔
damn that hits
It makes me so happy Alex went "bla, bla" again, and also dragged Geddy into it.
I love Alex, but that was the dumbest thing ever. Hoyvin mayvin...
FranLuthier - I am sorry, what language are you speaking?
greatest part about that is I knew exactly what he was saying.
@@gmmakesmehurl you don't love Alex Lifeson if you think him saying blah blah blah isn't funny.
@@D0WNT0WN Yeah whatever.
To see a band when your a teenager and 30 years later induct them into the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame is nothing short of amazing.
Ged saw Yes as a teenager 45 years before he got the privilege of inducting them. We all WISH Ged was a teenager just 30 years before this night, LOL.
More like 47 yrs.
Yes & Rush are both awesome
Chris Squire's bass work is amazing.
Always will be!
What a fitting tribute from two of the most amazing musicians the world has ever seen.
Wow Geddy's speech.....what a speech, it made me well up.
He speaks for not only himself but millions of musicians and listeners including myself.
took it out of my gut! so good!
When RUSH members inducts you into rock AND roll half of.fame, well... You did something really good to deserve such honor
Both great bands. However, Yes began way before Rush and was crucial in the development of prog rock, becoming a huge influence for later bands such as Rush. As Geddy said, they were righting a wrong. I get the feeling from those speeches that Alex and Geddy feel they've been honored by having the privilege of inducting Yes, and not the other way around.
So appropriate that Rush inducted Yes. I love these personal anecdotes.
I was at the induction... To FINALLY welcome Yes into the RRHOF 💚💚💚
Yep. Perhaps the two greatest prog-rock bands ever and both egregiously overlooked by the RNRHOF.
woooooooowwww this is one of the bigest night of R&R Hall of Fame!!!
RUSH talking about YES!!!! What else can you ask???
Oh, I don't know - maybe the RRHOF will someday get their heads out of their asses?
@@DavidSmith-ss1cg Not likely, they just inducted Whitney Houston.
@@markandersen793 and another rapper.
carlos tejada - well they could have also mentioned King Crimson, but they didn't so fuck them!
@@j_freed It's Yes's night.
Wow, Alex can really turn a phrase. And to think that Neil is their lyricist, goes to show their impeccable excellence.
Yet he blew through his own induction with gibberish
@@davidpearlactorteacherbizman I thought the blah blah was hysterical. I understood every blah blah. Remember, the HOF was never that important to them. They like that their fans felt satisfied.
@@joan-annebross9217 Yeah, sure ya did. 🤦
@@gmmakesmehurl Yeah, I did
Anyone watching can tell what he's saying. Just bcs you can't doesn't mean I can't. Watch again. "We worked & played (mimics all of them), grew a great fan base, were eligible for the HOF, HOF said "no" numerous times (grouchy blah blahs), Rush says "f*** you" to the HOF & keeps doing their thing (spinning watch dial). Finally, telephone rings & HOF says they're inducted. Alex spiffs himself up, pulls out a written speech, motions through crying & thanking Neil & Geddy, but says "nah" to the speech. Thanks the fans from his heart.....Got it now?
@@joan-annebross9217 Typical shithead Rush fan elitist response. Yeah, that's what I got out of it. I never even watched it. Nor do I care to. But, you just keep on trying to elevate yourself above others because we all know that's what their music is all about. Right?
Nice induction speech👍🏽
Was so long overdue and a shame that Chris Squire didn't live to see it.
😞😞😞😞😞
Alex and Geddy’s speeches go right to the heart of us teen boys from that era who sat holed up in our rooms suffering with glee trying to play guitar parts and bass parts from early Yes records.
These two are fucking awesome! I love them and their swagger and I can't think of two other guys capable enough to get Yes in here!
I don't think Rush swaggers at all. They're unbelievably humble guys.
@@joan-annebross9217 Being that humble, gives them a certain swagger.
Hopefully, Yes's induction paves the way for King Crimson to get inducted.
Baby steps my friend. Jethro Tull and ELP first. In theory KC should be in there already since they put the prog genre on the map but they didn't sell as many records. Yes, popularity means something for this institution.
And Kansas as well...
Mike Reiss I’d say Tull, then Crimson, then ELP based on what formed first.
Tull before Crimson? That's a good joke!
@@ForceMaximus84 Based on influence, King Crimson is one of the most important prog bands, since they influenced musicians from many genres of rock music. A huge influence that far outweighs their commercial popularity.
At every Rush concert I went to, Yes was played as the music piped in while waiting for the concert to start
The last one I went to, they played We Don't Need No Education 😂
Can you imagine Rick and Alex going on a comedy tour
Yes, I kinda can
That would be the greatest show I'd ever see
A comedy and music tour would be fantastic.
Let them recruit Les Claypool for bass and sometimes vocals. He is legit amusing.
I could see a new kind of "Monty Python" troupe, w/ ALEX LIFESON, Rick Wakeman, Geddy Lee & Guy Pratt. Rick and Guy are raconteurs, while Alex and Geddy are into physical comedy and subtle disses.
I hate when people try and debate who's better at this or that, they're all so different and incredible.
I never heard Rush acknowledge their influence of Yes. I could hear from the 1st I heard Rush. Rush is great, Their history is established. But I’ve waited for the acknowledgment of their influence of Yes. Thank you Geddy and Alex, you are humble and beautiful humans. Wonderful souls.
You must not have seen many Rush interviews. Geddy has acknowledged Squire’s influence on him many times.
Maybe the best and most honest induction speech out of them all
I just want to say I seen Rush 7 times .I seen them on there final tour and RUSH was flawless. 2112 was awesome. RIP Rush and the great NP.😪
"I seen"
@@GraemeWilliams21 That 'seen' crap is everywhere. Ugh.
What great speeches by Geddy and Alex.
Both Rush and Yes were my staples in junior high and high school back in the early 1980s. I loved both those bands, and listened to them almost interchangeably. It's so awesome to see this video of perhaps my favorite band of all-time paying tribute to my close-second favorite band of all-time.
nice to hear Alex loved The Yes Album and Fragile and found them formative. Steve Howe & Alex Lifeson -- two guitarists who have made my life so much richer!
Geddy Lee and Alex Lifeson gave me the gift of music. 2112 the very first I ever heard of them. That's when life changed. But yes, Yes is great as well.
If Geddy Lee, Alex Lifeson or Neil Peart are speaking, i stop whatever i'm doing and listen.
Blaze9 Web Casting Unfortunately we can’t hear Neil Peart’s voice anymore :(
Alex Lifeson #1
The look of respect in Eddie Vedders face is remarkable
I noticed that too. He almost looked awestruck.
Icons recognizing icons
Not really pertinent, but my baby's in love with Eddie Vedder. She's all cuh-raazy 'bout that Eddie Vedder.
It's crazy to think that almost all 80s/90s bands were inspired by and had huge respect for rush, who in turn felt the same for yes
Anybody else a little surprised that the R&RHOF invited Alex back after his "blah blah" acceptance speech during Rush's induction?
Are you kidding me? That was the BEST, most inspirational, speech ever made.
Not even a bit surprised. It's the most audaciously memorable induction speech ever, and in a very artistic way still communicated the amazing, emotional story of this band that a person of any language could understand
I think the R&RHOF loved it. That was Epic on another level right there.
It makes about as much sense as the fact that they waited so long to induct both Yes and Rush.
@@blue-tb2fd Any older Rush fan could tell exactly what Alex was saying in his blah blah speech. He was telling the story of Rushes career and showing their appreciation of their fans. It made perfect sense.
Wow!!! Now that is indeed a couple of awesome induction speeches. Yes deserves it!
It boggles my mind the influence that YES had on not only RUSH, but so many other AMAZING bands and performers !!!!!
RIP ❤ Chris & Alan…you are dearly missed.❤
Man I'm only 21 and my great uncle, who owns a record store in Denton TX, introduced me to RUSH. I found their playing and lyrics relatable and amazing. It was a few years later that I heard about YES through an interview Ged did on a radio show that I bought the first album I could find by YES, and I can safely say this was long awaited and too long to be frank and I'm happy that music like these 2 legendary bands exist.
It's hard for someone my age (55) to think of younger people never having heard of Rush, Yes, etc., unless someone tells them. My generation had the best music on radio (though Rush didn't get a lot of airplay).
@@joan-annebross9217 I enjoy all types of music, there are artists today that are amazing and very talented. You should check out the band Khruangbin and the song "Texas Sun" they are a fabulous band. Today music is so open if you use the internet and not stick to just solely the radio and I think that's what the older generation doesn't understand sometimes. I see tons of older people trash on the music kids today listen to when the only exposure they've seen is what's on TV when the internet is what kids are using.
@@rubenleavell I understand what you're saying. I use the internet. But you know Rush & other older bands, so you can comprehend albums. There's no cohesive sound or theme when every song is put out as an MP3. I like Muse. They put out albums, but they also, from what I can tell, put out songs singly as downloads. I lost some interest in them bcs it's scattered. Especially when you're older & have adult responsibilities (I wish to God I had the time to hang out in my room listening to albums like I did 40 yrs ago, but LIFE gets in the way), it can be tedious trying to corral all the songs. If you haven't already, check out Bob Seger, & the Fabulous Thunderbirds. The Cars, too. And ELO. Chicago, Kansas, Styx, Supertramp are all favorites of mine.
@@joan-annebross9217 I'm way ahead of ya on that man every band you listed I've checked out. From Elvis to Pantera I've listened to all kinds of rock. Tho atm I'm in a funk phase where I'm craving really smooth funk style music.
@@rubenleavell It can be hard to know what a younger person knows. I feel old. Sigh. Glad you know thosd bands, though. Some people my age don't know Fabulous Thunderbirds.
I was real big on yes as a teen, and Rick Wakeman's solo album A journey to the center of the earth. Hadn't heard of Rush yet, but I soon would.
Without Yes there would be no Rush. Without Rush there would be no Dream Theater.
So true!! From 17 years old listening to records in my room to 60 years old listening in my living room on a Dolby 7.2 home theater system. Prog Rock progresses!!
'Without Fates Warning there would be no Dream Theater' - Mike Portnoy
And, it's the truth even though DT introduced casuals to Progressive Metal. Also, I don't think Watchtower gets the credit they deserve for helping create the genre.
Most certainly, Rush would be the first to admit this.
Keep Dream Theater, I like Rush and Yes. They are their own justification.
No one from Yes to thank Geddy and Alex for their induction speech!!?
Sad, because Rush always acknowledged their influence over the years.
They played Roundabout together and then Yes members gave their acceptance speeches.
Geddy gets it so right ❤️
These two are just the best ❤️
When Geddy's talking about the Monty python sketches.....i just realized that Geddy Lee was exactly like us when we were kids. I mean, he talks about it and I automatically thought....."i remember that....was Geddy Lee there with us?....i dont remember him as part of the friend group"......but clearly, we have the same memory....so, he must've been...
Geddy to Alex.."like you can play Starship Trooper...I don't think so".😂
that tension when Geddy says "Alex"... Everybody thinking: "will he go Bla bla bla once again?" 😁😁😁
Such similar bands. Two legends.
Musicians paying respect to those that provided them inspiration is everything...(Rush provided the same inspiration to me when o was in my early teens...the same things they describe here were what they provided to me...both bands will remain timeless and incomparable...the sheer number of years spent creating and amount of masterpieces produced show how they are both one of a kind and were way ahead of their times...)
I am proud to know that humility is still a constant vibe in Canadians, long live humility and talent of those that emulate it
Starship Troopers had one of the greatest guitar parts in all of Creation!
This is another reason why I love Rush and followed the band for 40+ years and they were the very 1st concert I went to... blah blah...
Because they are real and true ...
We shall miss Neil terribly. :-(
Great Induction into Rock’n Roll Hall of Fame! You could almost hear the words of Neil thru Ged and Alex. Terrific Job and Welcome YES!!!
Alex Lifeson's speech was, dare I say, sobering.

@@tracycapilot2002 As in many of their songs, a reference to the dome of the firmament. Love seeing Pearl Jam there while Rush is introducing Yes.
3 of my all-time favorite bands, all in one place. Utterly amazing.
it's impossible to watch these top class and elegant speeches without then watching its counterpart ... Mr. Wakeman's one !
Love that Geddy said, "Right a wrong." He's damn right.
Love Yes and Rush! Spectacular musicianship! ❤
Their noble and generous speech could apply almost identically to Genesis and Led Zeppelin. Still Rush managed to combine and elevate those classic rock elements to a different level ...
“Gateway band” what a great phrase. I can totally relate.
I have been a life long fan of YES. My first album was Fragile and sincde then (1971) was hooked on their multi textured music for decades to come. I later was fortunate to have seen Yes live for 20 times since 1974 up to my latest in 2016 and later with ARW in 2017. They have kept on going for the 50th Anniversary and last year's Royal affair tour and will never cease to amaze me with their bombastic symphonic prog rock that has been going on for five decades. Long live YES, even with different lineups but the same talent quality and excelsior musicianship.
The Greatest Rock Band Inducting Another Greatest Rock Band! That's RUSH and YES!...
God Bless YES!
Holy cow all this time I thought Yes had been inducted before Rush. Man what a delay. Yes is foundational!!
Geddy was spot on... taking this long to "indict" Yes into The HOF was perhaps even more egregious than Rush having to wait until 2013.
Alex what a legend
I don’t recall the first time I heard YES, but they must have made an incredible impression on me. I ended up seeing them in concert four times starting in 1971, and to this day, out of nowhere, a YES song will come to me.
Right a terrible wrong! I love that he ended with that!
When such heartfelt commentary comes as that, it's pretty much a fine thing to be alive. Grateful here.
I am so happy I landed on this video.
que belleza !!!!! Yes y Rush hablando de ellos!!!! Viva a musica !!
It has been a long wait but finally YE$ is in the Rock and Roll hall of Fame. Congratulations, guys.
6:30 I say thank you Yes. It's our great great privilege and our great honor to right a terrible wrong and to finally welcome Yes into the Rock n Roll HOF
5:51 they dined on honeydew :)

My two favorite bands!
Great tribute from both.
Geddy digging Alex about Starship Trooper is the best part!
Q LINDAS PALABRAS!!,,,Rush es Musica y humildad tambien!!
Wonderful! The boys did it!
I can't really say much, because what can you say about legends that hasn't already been said before. But I can say that I drove across the country many times with my car stereo playing full blast at 2a.m. Probably responsible for some of my hearing loss. Worth it.
So much awesomeness.
Kings of Cool.
Alex Lifeson, forgot to mention both Bill Bruford, and Allen White who were crucial to the rhythm sound of Yes. What a huge omission of two fantastic drummers.
Rest in peace Neil
Alex and geddy look like a pair of teenagers got another 20 years yet lads
Seen rush 12 times and yes 15 awesome every time

The Who, Yes, and Them.
Introduced by Abbott & Costello.
Oh hell yeah. You have my total teenage loves and obsessions. Great memories. Nice to know there are still other people who relate.

Tell me I'm wrong!
Yes is my 2nd gave after Rush. The guys in yes we're all trained musicians where the Holy Trinity were guys like me, neighborhood kids that have an insane passion for music & a desire to be the best they can be & start a band. Well I wasn't fortunate enough to find guys like pratt & lerxst but I still play in bands at 62 years young & built a level of respect &:reverence among the local level. I'm damn proud of that & to be put on a level as my heros is indeed an honor. It truly shows the awesome power music really has.nuff said
You think of the two bands as contemporaries. If you loved Yes, you loved Rush and vice versa.
Hard to think of them as teenage fans
geddys the student squires the master
Paul Cooke Chris was more innovative. Geddy owes his bass playing career to Squire
Lifeson is the best!
And now we know why Neil wasn’t there !
😔
Yes...👍☝️😍🔝👏🙏🎤🎼🎶🎵🎻🔈🔉🔊‼‼‼1969 .....2021....the very best group....!!
Just like Neil Peart was everyone's favorite drummers' favorite drummer, Yes was my favorite band's favorite band. Without Yes, there probably would have been no Rush. At least not Rush as we know them today. Masterpieces like 2112, Xanadu, and La Villa Strangiato would have probably never happened, had there been no Close to the Edge, Siberian Khartu, Yours is no Disgrace, and Starship Trooper.
