After seeing everyone's reaction to Sam standing up to Tory at the end being the same here for the umpteenth time, I feel like the show should've put more emphasis on the fact that the lesson she learned from Aisha was "it's okay to do things Johnny's way", which she did here.

Tory uses deadly weapons and breaks into peoples houses by throwing kids through windows but shows character development.
Sam was a victim who cant get over trauma which is the source of her anger. It's especially hard to get over the trauma when everyone's forgiving the aggressor

Yeah, I'm a STRONG believer that people can change and everyone deserves forgiveness. But I also believe it's foolish to think that everyone will just accept an apology and move on THAT easily.
After Tory scarred Sam with the spikes, we saw Sam struggling with PTSD for a whole season, and then she got ambushed by Tory AGAIN with ANOTHER weapon!
Tory wasn't just trying to get revenge, she was willing to kill her

Season 1 finale: Tori takes over the school speaker. "I'm coming for you bitch" just before the she started the all out war.
season 4 : Sam. "I'm coming for you, bitch".
She's taking control. She may be scared but is fronting Tori and striking first, she's not going to feel threatened anymore, and Tori's presence in her home and now her school is a threat to her. The girl who left scars on her is now in her home. I rewatched that S1 fight today and it's crazy. I don't know where Tori would have stopped, there was no off switch that I could see, I felt Sam was in real danger of being killed because Tori was just out for revenge and blinded.
I love that Amanda is helping her, being shown a kindest by someone who isn't out to use her in some adults weird grudge match must feel very different. Having already watched it, I'm intrigued to see where she goes from here

Sam is a person who was assaulted with a deadly weapon that left her bleeding and scarred, causing her severe PTSD, then had the same person lead a home invasion of her house and attacked her with nunchucks. Now everyone is insisting she forgive her and go to school with her. She feels powerless, so she is trying to take control of their dynamic. Her last line to Tony is what Tory said to her before she first attacked her.

It takes a lot of equivocating to conclude that Johnny and Tory are not the bullies. Johnny was trying to force a girl to speak to him, was withholding her property and Daniel tried to talk him down. Johnny shoved him into the sand by bashing a radio into his chest. Daniel jabbed him and then Daniel tried to squash it. Johnny kicked him repeatedly and that’s how that started. Then the Cobra Kai’s run him off the road and destroy his bike. And I honestly think it’s hysterical that Daniel gets called the bad guy for dousing them with water, but we NEVER bring up that even Johnny’s other Cobra’s were telling him enough when he was beating Daniel for it. We’re just equalizing physical violence with dousing of water, and this is the crap that leads to ppl being unironic fans of Homelander. Tory attacked Sam with weapons, broke into her home with a karate gang. I don’t care if Sam shows up and heckles her at every job she ever has. Tory is the aggressor. Was it right for Sam to accuse her of stealing the wallet just cause she stole some vodka? Nope. Was it right that she kissed Miguel? Nope. Still not an excuse for assault with a deadly weapon. Danny and Sam are dumb teenagers who make mistakes. Johnny and Tory were/are bullies. My apologies to Bernie, cuz I think he’s funny, but just no.

Then when Daniel was down Johnny walked up to him saying he was done and then said “how about you hero?”, not verbatim, and that’s when Daniel sucker punched him. So technically, Johnny started that fight. Daniel getting between Ali and Johnny isn’t starting a fight, it’s just butting into other peoples business.

I took it as Sam was still scared about Tory coming back to school. That's why she feels she didn't have control. Aisha told her how she took back control by being kind. Sam compromised between that idea and lashing out with violence. She wants Tory to be scared of her, that's how she gets control.
I honestly don't get all the Sam hate this season. She is over aggressive for sure, and the ideas aren't executed perfectly. But sometimes it feels like she can't get away with nearly as much as Hawk got away with and still have the love of the audience.

@@mlgnerd13 I see. I like the compromise idea, makes sense with Sams character this season. I felt that by this season people want to watch the story progress even more than before. So every time we see Sam in a similar confrontation to Hawk we want her to come to some common ground with someone like Tory for the sake of the story progression, not necesarilly a resolution between them. I think with Hawk, his actions were a change to whatever was before so it moved the story at that point but now they expect the same from Sam even though her character growth seems to be starting more this season. Yes but no one is the bad guy in their life’s story. He was trying to make up with his girlfriend (he failed) and then some kid you don’t know steps up to you. He knows karate and held back literally saying sit down kid after pushing him down in the sand. And then Daniel hit him! He more than struck back but in his mind he was defending his honor in front of his friends. Mike Barnes is a bully. Johnny was a young boy taught by a maniac. He was good at heart which Ali even talked about. He let his trauma mold who he became for better and for worse his whole life. But that’s just my opinion I guess. I don’t really view either as the bad guy. They were young boys fighting over a girl neither would keep. It was dumb and so were they. And sometimes they still are a bit thick headed. It was good Daniel was able to stand up for himself but that was his issue. It wasn’t about Johnny. It was about life and being new and fitting in. It was all that wrapped in karate. And to prove he was never a bully he eventually turns into a victim needing to be saved both physically and mentally but Myiagi only defends the boys physical. I think THATS what Karate Kid 2 should have been. Having them train Johnny but then that would erase this whole show which I couldn’t bear. But hey some alt universe lol 😝

IMO Sam Robby Miguel and Demetri are the characters that have basically never been wrong
Robby and Miguel both fucked up once tho.
I don’t blame robby for the accident cuz it wasn’t on purpose but he should’ve apologized and made sure Miguel was okay. Also it doesn’t really make sense why he hates Daniel. Yeah he should hate Sam she cheated on him (guess that’s the one time I disagreed with Sam) Yeah he should hate Johnny he was an absent father, maybe he should hate Miguel idk. I guess drunk Miguel was his first impression of him and since he hit Sam he prolly thought Miguel was an asshole for a long time and prolly still does think that. And also I think part of it is pent up anger over feeling like he’s been replaced by his father. But Daniel literally chose the best option for Robby. Tf did Robby think he was gonna do be a fugitive for the rest of his life? He was only in “jail” for like less than a month prolly.
And Miguel was really rude to robby in the tournament in season 1 but he’s changed a lot since then so yeah.

Ahem. This thing on? Hem hem: TORY TRIED TO KILL HER. TWICE. Victims of violent crimes DO NOT OWE THEIR ATTACKERS Jack shit.
Sam allowed her to go back to school, then said "I'm not scared of you" and "stay away from me." What is cringey about that? Did you want her to throw her a fucking tea party? I get what the show is trying to do, but the show went too far in what it allowed Tory to get away with for this "both sides" bullshit to land completely. Which is fine; I like that they humanize Tory and showcase all of the LaRusso's faults, but to take that to mean that Sam is in the wrong for her reaction here is insane.
Everyone discussing this keeps conflating "who started it?" and "what is a proportionate or acceptable response?" Sam absolutely started it with Tory, and kept antagonizing instead of mending fences, sure. Literally none of what she has done, however, even remotely excuses Tory doing a karate school-shooting, taking a bladed weapon with the intent to strike her face, or leading a home invasion that culminated in assault with a deadly weapon. Daniel "started it" with the water hose in that instance, fine, but is an acceptable response to that giving him a 5-on-1 beating that even Tommy was trying to stop after it got excessive? Daniel may or may not have started it on the beach, if you want to be generous to Johnny, but is a proportionate response to that RUNNING HIM OFF OF A CLIFF?
If you want to say that she should learn to move on for her own spiritual well-being or whatever, fine, but arguing that Sam is wrong for not making peace with someone who traumatized her is some absolute bullshit.

I really enjoyed this season overall, but I will blame both director and writer for Sam's reception by the audience. I don't think they managed to make us understand her quite well; I think what they did with Daniel was better, because we trace his hot-headedness back to the movies, and his flaws are quite consistent. Although she is a teenager, and teenagers are dumb, some of the heels turns feel non-sensical, because we as the audience have some expectations in how the characters should be acting, or we have an "acceptable range" for it. I still like her tho, but I guess I'm in the minority. I think they did much better with Miguel in season 1 (and in this season as well), and they did better with Hawk. Anyway, hopefully, they get the hang of her next season. Edit: I also think they should have made at least one of Daniel's kids "better", with both of them acting badly thorough the season we just cannot believe that the household has been nurturing good lessons... Again, take Miguel as an example, even as a heel in season 1 we don't doubt he has a good heart, he is just misguided.

We now know why Johnny turned out the way he did back then (mostly Sid and Kreese), but that doesn’t change the fact that he went out of his way to bully Daniel for most of the movie. Daniel approaches requesting Johnny to give the boombox back to Ali. Johnny says "Do you want the boombox? Go get it!" And pushes Daniel down "giving" him the boombox. Daniel gets up and takes a defensive stance. Johnny attacks Daniel and lands kicks on him and Daniel falls down. Ali tries to stop Johnny, Johnny then gets closer to Daniel saying "Yoy want some more?" to which Daniel responds with a punch and then Daniel finishes him off.
So no it wasn't Daniel's fault and it's not always Daniel's fault. Yes there are moments when Daniel instigates the fight but it didn't start that way. It's always back and forth after their first meeting.

When this show first started up until last season I was rooting for Sam over Tory. This season changed that, Tory is the underdog that can't seem to get a break while Sam is just being a brat. Sam didn't grasp what Aisha told her and took the whole "Strike First" too literally. It would make sense if they reveal that Tory's Father is Mike Barnes, she definitely has the same tamper and would explain her initial interset in Cobra Kai. Neil Patrick Harris needs to have a cameo on this show before it ends.

Folks love talking about Sam's emotional scars, Tori has emotional scars of life. And to quote sam in a previous episode, 'just because you have a sob story doesn't give you the right to be a bully', hmm, she's having anxiety attacks and emotional scars, looks like sam has a sob story now, of course tory has much more emotional scars due to her situation is nowhere near sam's. sam's a spoiled kid that got in to it with someone who felt she had nothing to lose and oh how folks forget she went looking for trouble at the 'laser tag' place and played her part to escalate things. Sam break the cycle, no, but why can't Tori make the step. And to what point will Sam move on, enemies for life or to the grave.

Sam's emotional and psychological scars come directly from Tory though. It easy to see why Sam took the stance she did in dealing with Tory. After months of trying to use Miyagi Do to defend herself and naturally getting tired of it not working, she finally leans in to Johnny's way and strikes first. But yeah, fuck Sam. Wordt character of all time. She can't have any flaws or be in anyway self contradictory. Not like any other character on this show is ever like that.

Man, the writing has really gone downhill this season especially when it comes to the LaRussos, specifically Sam. It feels so forced and doesn’t match the quality of the writing of previous seasons. It feels like they are trying so desperately to make you feel sorry for Tori, that they are throwing Sam’s character under the bus. There is no balance to the show anymore.

Thank you! I really thought this season had some really crappy moments, and it was pretty awful. The moment the two dojos separated and Lawrence and Larusso were fighting AGAIN, EVEN THOUGH THEY WERE RESOLVING THEIR ISSUES, felt simply forced and stupid. It threw all logic out the window
