You are very welcome. I always liked route 66 and the shops/towns/etc. my grandma lived on route 66 so I remember seeing some of the little things on the road when I was a kid. glad I can bring something that is close to your heart. have a great rest of your week!
Being from Louisville, I picked up US 66 (by then multiplexed with I-44) in St. Louis and rode it all the way to Amarillo en route to Cannon AFB, Clovis, NM during my USAF days in the 1970's. There were still stretches of the 4-lane US 66 where I-40 had not yet been built. Pleasant memories...
Never thought I'd see anything in Oklahoma on a "Top 10" list. Also, as an Oklahoman, I would recommend going to the OKC National Memorial and Museum from the OKC bombing. He shows a picture, but doesn't mention stopping there. It is hands down one of the most moving memorials I've seen. It was designed by some of the same people who designed the 9/11 Memorial in NYC, which is also super amazing and moving.
Mark, Stroud, OK and the Rock Café is really great. The Rock Café is a place that one must eat at...great story! I about freaked out when I first arrived there, but you will really like the experience. It was also neat to check out the origin of the license plates on the cars in the parking lot...you'll be surprised.
Winslow AZ my son was literally standing on the corner. When a woman in a flat bed drove by! The truck was a Chevy, instead of a Ford but it still cool!
Good information here my man! My better half and I are researching Route 66 for a trip via motorcycle either in the fall of 2018 or the spring of 2019. You have given us specific locations to visit and maybe stop and play for awhile along the way. Thanks again for putting in the time to share our Americana History! Kudos!!!
Aaron Dickey Me too, doing a solo bike trip in May or June 2019. Route 66,PCH 1, and hit as many national parks as possible in 3-4 weeks. Hopefully post some videos afterwards. If you get the chance, include Bear Tooth Drive in your trip. My video doesn't do it justice. Have a safe trip.
I love your choice of cities. Tucumcari NM, little town. Murals and old time neon like they don't do anymore, dinosaur museum that's good, and NM food.
If you like to do side trips, Chloride, AZ is a cool (still operational) mining town about 25 miles north of Kingman, AZ just off route 93. It's known for the painted rock murals just outside of town.
There is an amazing historic store in Seligman Az. Called "Shannons wild sunflowers" Unbelievable owner who shares extensive knowledge of archaeological and anthropology, and local history as well as local lore. Best place ever
We are driving from KC to Santa Fe next week. Very helpful video. I've heard that Pops Soda in Arcadia, OK is a must see and there's a halfway point in Adrian, TX? I can't wait!!
There's a restored 1930s Conoco Tower gas station in Shamrock, Texas. It's east of Amarillo. If you saw the movie Cars, and remember that gas/service station in the movie. This is the real thing. Also between Shamrock and Amarillo is a virtually abandoned town called McLean.
Very good video that I have to watch for school (I'm a french pupil) but I think you made a little mistake in your description : You wrote : "3. St. Louis, IL". I think it should be "3. St. Louis, MO". Thank you very much for this excellent video.
You don't want to go to D'Arcy's Pint for a good horseshoe, I stopped going there when they gave me bread with mold on it. Rit'z Lil Fryer has by far the best horseshoe in town. Their cheese sauce recipe is the best I've ever had.
ray tex..graduated high school 1960 from youngstown ohio.. me and my good friend sam drove strait 2 woodland hills ca..65 hours..old friends of mine had a italian restaruante in burbank ca on magnolia blvd..back then when thy said last chance 4 water and gas they ment it ?????????????????????????????
Did the drive in 2007. Tucamcari. NM was nice. Had some famous motels and gas stations. Alot of the small towns are sad. Grants. NM had a main Street with a barber shop. loved Santa Fe. Across the river from St. Louis is East St.Louis. Illinois. Avoid that place like the plauge. Normal. illinois is a nice college town.
Sorry, I stopped watching at 2:30 -- way too much Illinois promotion. The idea of making Route 66 span from Oklahoma to Illinois seems dumb. It should have been two roads. Anyone want to take a two week trip from Oklahoma to Illinois? Anyone?
jatkins47 Yes. Most aficionados judge a Horseshoe by its cheese sauce. I have to agree with Mark regarding D’Arcy’s Pint, but there are a lot of close seconds.
Why are people so sarcastic and stupid with their comments. Why can't you just say good job and if you don't like it don't watch it and leave your negative comments were they belong.
The huge jockey shorts at the Budweiser brewery are there to remind beer drinkers that if they can't get any real beer and decide to drink Budweiser instead they're going to need under shorts that big to hold all the diarrhea they're going to fill their shorts with.

My favorite little Rt. 66 town is Oatman, AZ...of course! Lived there for 10 years in the '90s!
I'm sure living in Oatman for a decade was something else!! Did you stay year 'round?
cool. I may be heading back on route 66 this march so would be cool to check out. thanks!
Goodness! Enjoyed your precious family!
Winslow AZ my son was literally standing on the corner. When a woman in a flat bed drove by! The truck was a Chevy, instead of a Ford but it still cool!
Route 66 EZ Guide, highly recommended. It will get you and keep you on as much of the old road as possible.
will have to check it out. we are thinking 2015 may be our Chicago to LA road trip

How did both your trips go?

Great video, Makes me so excited for our trip next summer. What time of year did you go? - Route 66 Abandoned Art.
I can't believe he didn't mention Winslow Az. The most famous corner to stand on and " Take it Easy " in music history.......
@woltersworld Hi how are you? So what are you gonna do for this summer?
Santa Fe is completely different now except for around the plaza and strange sideroads.
OKC Western Museum is awesome.
How many days did you cover this trip in?
Think about doing San Fran to Orlando including Route 66 in there too, in a RV for honeymoon, how long would you recommend to take?
sally martin .. I would recommend 2 or 3 months.
I'm doing a cross country rd trip (DC to San Diego), what cities/sights would you suggest?
There's a restored 1930s Conoco Tower gas station in Shamrock, Texas. It's east of Amarillo. If you saw the movie Cars, and remember that gas/service station in the movie. This is the real thing. Also between Shamrock and Amarillo is a virtually abandoned town called McLean.
Perfect

The Lincoln Museum is totally amazing. I cannot recommend it higher.

Anheuser Busch, genius.
Don't visit OKC.
You won't want to leave.
The Best RT.66
I stop to out gas there and I didn't even know it was route 66
Awesome video...but I have to say that first picture depicting Santa Fe is actually Taos, NM....beautiful but NOT Santa Fe...
Hi, bro... You not say anything abt Colorado.
Route 66 doesn't go through Colorado.
The vast majority of the attractions are not technically on route 66.

Birth of the corndog? It is the birthplace of the corn dog.
Are the fries really drownded with cheese?
jatkins47 Yes. Most aficionados judge a Horseshoe by its cheese sauce. I have to agree with Mark regarding D’Arcy’s Pint, but there are a lot of close seconds.
