I can't even be mad about any of this. GC discs are fucking fragile as hell, and can fail to play with light scratching. ALSO, original hardware is wearing out. Fuck it, fly the flag.
The Wii makes a much easier and better GameCube backup player, it's not even emulated and provides a means for cheap progressive scan. This is cool however, you have to physically alter a GameCube (something they're not making anymore) to make it.
A solderless version is coming soon, which plugs into the disc drive connector, so modifying the RF shield is no longer needed. Probably worth waiting for for those that are looking at buying one.
Evil Chronic Very nice. It seems even the God of War director wants a new Golden Sun game these days. Imo GS3 wasn’t very good by GS1 and 2 were amazing games. I’d love to go through them again soon.
Gamecube was my prime for video games. Timesplitters, Metal Arms: Glitch in the system, Smash Bros Melee and Resident Evil Remake and 4. So underrated as a console

One Wii, one copy of Four Swords Adventures, four GameCubes, four Gameboy Advance to GameCube cables, for Gameboy players, four GameCube controllers, one Wiimote, and four Gameboy player discs. This is my setup for playing Four Swords Adventures with full size screens. For how much I've already spent on it, this is convincing me to get them rigged up with HDMI output and SD capabilities to save wear on those expensive discs. Thank you, Mr. Wave.

Thus, I run Four Swords Adventures from a Wii and connect the Gameboy-to-GameCube cables to the top of the Wii (running FSA for better output) and each one of the game GameCubes to its own individual screen. When you go into a house or a cave, you won't be staring at a tiny screen on your lap, you'll be looking to the left or right of the main screen toward your own individual TV. It really is a fantastic set-up with no noticeable latency compared to a Gameboy Advance.
Maybe, but Nintendo has been finicky about that since the SNES. The N64 was technically superior to PS1, but used inferior cartridges compared to PS1's CDs. The GC was good on internal tech, terrible again on software because of mini discs 🤦. Wii was vastly underpowered, and Wii U provided no 3rd party support and was vastly underpowered compared to PS4/XB1.
My indigo was eventually replaced with a silver GC because it stopped reading discs but I had grown attached to it so I kept it all these years. For someone who's currently having GC fever, this. changes. everything. Amazing stuff, thanks for this!

As someone who has built PCs for a company and for friends, just seeing that soldering was so awesome dude! The GameCube era is such a nostalgic time of gaming with titles that were just FUN.
As a physical collector I love this kind of technology. I love collecting and popping in my original games on the original console. However, I like the idea of prolonging the systems life by removing aging optical drives and discs. As much as I love my OG collection the discs and the disc reader will eventually fail. Options like these will keep original games moving forward.
An easy soldering job, contingent on having a decent iron. I remember a garbage iron that I got in a tool set once...the first time I plugged it in and tried to use it, it passed mains voltage THROUGH the tip of the iron into the board I was working on.
I always thought mods like these were weird for the original gamecube when alternatives like the Wii(U) exist. They're infinitely easier to mod and also support SD/USB out of the box. About the only reason I could think of for modding a gamecube would be game boy player support, but that's just me.
Yea its pretty obsolete unless you are one of those overly fanatic pixel junkies with an original GC component cable. I'd stick to using a Wii/WiiU personally tho.

Wow seems interesting, suckers would pay a lot for a mod like this, I honestly suck at soldering I would prefer the easy way and use the bottom port to load the games, but great job man very technical stuff right here I love it.
This is pretty awesome, there is an alternative, it's called the SD2SP2, it lets you install a micro SD card in the service port 2 on the bottom of the GC, you then use an action replay disc and an SD to memory card adapter with Swiss loaded on it, works the same, just used a different storage location.

Some games crash if the speed is wrong. They Cube expects some games to load at a certain rate and sd/ide drives load too quick. I believe that's the cash....I believe it's the same when using Ninendont on a hacked Wii.

Great video Jon! I'm actually awaiting my own GCLoader Plug n Play (PnP) to get here. It's still in Indiana and that's pissing me off lmao. I also ordered an SD2SP2 for storing Swiss settings until that's sorted out in a future Swiss software update. I only have an oversized mSD card I can dedicate to it, but w/e. Now, to those of you saying "Why is this better than soft modding a Wii?": This mod isn't for everyone. It's for people that want to play their GCN games on OG/native hardware, whilst preserving their discs and preventing them from getting damaged. If you want to deal with the clonkyness of the Wii OS just to play some GameCube games, then so be it and you do you. To those of you comparing this to the Dolphin Emulator, also remember that you need a somewhat beefy PC to run games at playable frame rates, and even then not all games are compatible with it. The GCLoader is literally a 1:1 replacement for the DVD drive, and there's no emulation going on whatsoever, making compatibility basically 99.9999999%. I'm sure there's an oddball game out there that won't load up from anything but its original disc, but that's why you should also have a stock console if you want to play games like that. I'm personally going to be gifting this console to my brother with Super Smash Bros Melee (I own the actual disc and he was and somewhat still is super good at the game; tournament level at one point) and a handful of other games I physically own for Christmas. He won't know what's coming and I sort of owe it to him since he's done so much for me over the past few years. It's time to give back. Anyway once again, great video Jon! I hope I get my GCL PnP sooner than what my USPS tracking is telling me (ETA Friday of this week my ass)... since both my SD2SP2 and GCL PnP are coming from similar regions (IL and IN respectively).
The gameboy player, my mates gamecube doesn't function anymore, seriously it probably needs a 5 dollar repair. But he doesn't care, Wii plays the games as well, so he gave me his gameboy player. Probably seen 50 hours of playtime, disc no scratches on it, right color, disc case, even the box it came in.

The thing about ODE's isn't the load time that's cut, it's the seek time. Some games load many parts from different spots on a disk, and that seek time just kills the load.

Tony Hawk 3 was the best by far! The Revert made sick lines possible, the levels were great, the missions were the most fun!

Great video Jon! I'm actually awaiting my own GCLoader Plug n Play (PnP) to get here. It's still in Indiana and that's pissing me off lmao. I also ordered an SD2SP2 for storing Swiss settings until that's sorted out in a future Swiss software update. I only have an oversized mSD card I can dedicate to it, but w/e.
Now, to those of you saying "Why is this better than soft modding a Wii?": This mod isn't for everyone. It's for people that want to play their GCN games on OG/native hardware, whilst preserving their discs and preventing them from getting damaged. If you want to deal with the clonkyness of the Wii OS just to play some GameCube games, then so be it and you do you.
To those of you comparing this to the Dolphin Emulator, also remember that you need a somewhat beefy PC to run games at playable frame rates, and even then not all games are compatible with it. The GCLoader is literally a 1:1 replacement for the DVD drive, and there's no emulation going on whatsoever, making compatibility basically 99.9999999%. I'm sure there's an oddball game out there that won't load up from anything but its original disc, but that's why you should also have a stock console if you want to play games like that. I'm personally going to be gifting this console to my brother with Super Smash Bros Melee (I own the actual disc and he was and somewhat still is super good at the game; tournament level at one point) and a handful of other games I physically own for Christmas. He won't know what's coming and I sort of owe it to him since he's done so much for me over the past few years. It's time to give back.
Anyway once again, great video Jon! I hope I get my GCL PnP sooner than what my USPS tracking is telling me (ETA Friday of this week my ass)... since both my SD2SP2 and GCL PnP are coming from similar regions (IL and IN respectively).

The gameboy player, my mates gamecube doesn't function anymore, seriously it probably needs a 5 dollar repair. But he doesn't care, Wii plays the games as well, so he gave me his gameboy player. Probably seen 50 hours of playtime, disc no scratches on it, right color, disc case, even the box it came in.
The loadtimes where faster because of the way the data was written and that the disc was always spinning

The thing about ODE's isn't the load time that's cut, it's the seek time. Some games load many parts from different spots on a disk, and that seek time just kills the load.
