It makes me sad that a lot of these games haven't had much rereleases and would love to go back and replay a lot of them. Also would like to add Billy Hatcher and Gotcha Force to the list of games that weren't mentioned.

Billy Hatcher is an amazing game. One of the last unique games to come out of Sonic Team.
Gotcha Force…. I think it’s a bit overrated. It’s okay but the combat is super basic and the camera is AWFUL.

I think Yu-Gi-Oh: The Falsebound Kingdom is a game worth mentioning. Even though there were other games that explored ideas that didn't exactly play like standard Yu-Gi-Oh like Duelist of Roses and the Capsule game which is a reference to the original anime (Season 0), Falsebound Kingdom really stood out as probably the wackiest. Featuring 3v3 monster combat and real time strategy management.

there's a 1st party omission that definitely needs a mention: the sadly Japan only Giftpia. I'd also like to mention NBA Courtside 2002 ( the last licensed sports title Nintendo ever made, though they did have Nintendo Pennant Chase Baseball in development only to cancel it ) and the quirky pinball strategy game Odama ( which was created by Yoot Saito, the creator of Seaman on Dreamcast )...oh and Harvest Moon: Magical Melody, a seemingly often overlooked entry in the series that's a ton of fun to play

An odd omission from this list is Amazing Island. While it probably doesn't hold up now, it felt like an overlooked game for the Gamecube. It's a weird mix of games such as Pokemon and Mario Party. You make monsters and then you do mini-games. I remember being into making new monsters to try and find the best way to succeed. It would be great to play it again someday.

GameCube is now a nostalgic system in and of itself, and what's more, there are a LOT of games that can be (relatively) easily ported from it, at least compared to certain games on the Nintendo DS, Nintendo 3DS, Wii, and Wii U. Really, the GameCube, while not the most financially successful gaming console for Nintendo, had some of the most varied, unique, and memorable games of any Nintendo system, both from third parties, and also themselves. Heck, the fact that there are apparently over 70 "essential" games for that system should tell you something about the quality of that system's library!

How could you forget the best Gamecube pinball game Odama?
You controlled Feudal Japan troops with microphone voice commands to take over enemy bases (the mic and a clip to hold it onto the Gamecube Controller were included with the big boxed game just like Mario Party 6 and 7). You moved the cannonball with the stick, and you hit the pinball flippers with L and R. Also you could use items with the digital pad and change the camera with the C-stick. That game was one of the craziest genre mixes I ever played.
Also, my favourite basketball game came out shortly after the launch. Nintendo's NBA Courtside 2002 was the third and final game in the exclusive NBA Courtside series after two great N64 prequels.
I would also add the Phantasy Star Online games to the list. Episode I&II were exclusive remakes with many extras.

A small correction. You stated that Mario DDR had no gameplay differences from the main series. This isn't actually true as on the story mode or through a toggle on arcade mode you had something called mush mode. This is where they had different Mario elements that you had to step on whether it was stomping on a Koopa once get it in its shell again to kick it away or having to step on the rocket pieces to build a weapon that beats bowser and of you missed it you lost or even avoiding spineys and they incorporated those elements in with the standard arrows

As such, it's hard to find, so most stick with GameCube now these days (though Xbox has better resolution options overall as it's 720p60 [480p60 is required if you want widescreen though]). GameCube has the most unlockables though as Link gets 2 extra costumes while Heihachi and Spawn get none. Overall, the game is awesome, so the platform doesn't really matter too much (besides the guest character).

One of, if not my favorite RPG ever is a niche title from the 6th gen, LotR: The Third Age. It's a (from my understanding having never played it) FFX gameplay "clone" that takes place across most all LotR stories (with new characters that allow creative freedom, although you do cross paths with the fellowship from time to time), including over 100 optional story cutscenes that utilize the Peter Jackson films alongside custom voiceovers from Ian McKellen.
It's at the very least my favorite LotR title, and the only one I know of that takes you through all the iconic plot points of the stories/movies such as fighting the Balrog, Helm's Deep, and Minas Tirith, as well as many lesser focused areas of them like Osgiliath. Unfortunately, it suffered from GC mini disk syndrome requiring it split into two disks for the port, but regardless it's a great title for any LotR enthusiast imo.

Baten Kaitos was one of the biggest surprises of the GC era for me.
I never liked games that had a card aspect to them, but this one was much different. Cards were placeholders for spells/summons & never really got to the point it felt like a burden to collect/build decks like other games. It was just an awesome RPG that happened to use cards.
Also, if you're going to pick one, pick the original Baten Kaitos. The combat is more in depth & a lot more interesting than the streamlined, basic version offered in Origins. I'd say they're both worth checking out, but Origins always felt like a watered down entry compared to the first game.

Nintendo really should launch a New wave Race and 1080°. Both follows that arcade style and would need some changes on the challenge and racing mode since a lot newer snowboarding and racing games presented a new standard. If they don't, these new realeases will be put as outdated or with lack of content as this newer Mario strikers did. What really shines on this games are the attention to details. Water physics, climate influence, clothes and personalities detailed. That should be kept and improved

Funnily enough the wii u had all the hardware required to play GameCube games (since it has a virtual wii inside and all Wii’s can play GameCube games). But it can only load backups via unofficial methods. Does make the wii u an amazing retro machine though with how many systems could be played on it

Great retrospective ! Unfortunatly the upcoming Tales of Symphonia Remastered will not be based on the GC version but PS2, like the actual HD PS3/PC port.
This port features more content but is locked at 30fps whereas GC was 60fps.

this video is good, but has a big glaring problem (that for once, isnt the stretched footage, which is in 2nd place)...
...several of these games are very loosely exclusives
a bunch of mentioned games have been ported, have been multiplatform, got remasters/remakes, etc; and it boggles me considering theres an easy to find list of pure gamecube exclusives!
yeah this points out gamecube exclusive essentials, but going for pure exclusives would shine a light on games that never got much recognition!

Back when I was 13, I saved up all my pocket money so I could buy a Gamecube. It was the first console I had ever bought myself and I only ever owned a Gameboy Color before it. My very first Games were the Windwaker, Melee, Luigis Mansion and Mario Kart Double Dash, and a friend of mine had Metroid Prime and F-Zero GX.
My old Gamecube and Wii still exist in my parents attic, but I live in a different country now and I wouldn't even be able to play them since we don't have a compatible TV anymore. The Steam Deck now is incredibly tempting, as it can emulate all of the games of my childhood, and Nintendo doesn't seem to care to make those games available anytime soon.

As someone who absolutely adored Chibi-Robo as a kid, I’m still bitter about how that franchise was treated.
First game came out half a year before the Wii did, when the GameCube was on its last legs.
Second game was on the DS, a much more popular system, at the height of its popularity... as a barely marketed Walmart exclusive in America with no European release. Third game was also on DS, and Japan-only.
A Japan-only Wii rerelease of the first game and a small 3DS eShop spinoff later, the 3DS saw Chibi-Robo’s last chance to get the attention he deserved, with a game that, if it failed, would almost certainly mean the end for this funky little robot and the studio that created him...
...and it was an entirely different genre. Actually, scratch that; it wasn’t just an entirely different genre, it was a 2D platformer! On a system that had 2D platformers out the wazoo! And it wasn’t even a very good one!
I really hope that Nintendo sees the potential in Chibi-Robo and gives him another shot on Switch. This franchise has so much charm, and even if it’s not AAA top-tier franchise material, I think the series could amass a decently-sized fanbase if it just had the right chance.

While not an exclusive. Batman:Vengeance was fun on the Gamecube. Had the look of the animated series, had most if not all the original VA's too. A little clunky with the controls, but otherwise good.
Also not exclusives either but Simpsons Road Rage and Hit and Run were so good.
