    Being chased by that thing was really unnerving and the maze disorienting!
    It's an interesting depiction of her fear. You all will have to let me know your interpretation of what was happening in that moment.
    I'm ready to rescue Dillion!

      A lynch. Mob justice. And if not literal, then at least the feeling of being blamed for something terrible you had nothing to do with. The village was blaming Senua for bringing the plague with her and so they chased her with pitchforks and torches. Maybe literal, maybe just figurative, but either way it made so much of an impression on Senua she now has to face her fear, and it takes the form of a burning, incorporeal danger, that lurks there read to grab her at her lowest point. I feel really, really sorry for Senua and I wish I could have done something to help, but I just feel so powerless at this moment. But, at the same time I know she is strong and that she can overcome this shitty situation because she's so awesome and brave, but also so sensitive and caring. And I write this as I'm drunk and I don't even know why but I'm crying my eyes out. I guess there's a little bit of Senua in all of us.

      A lynching caused by her father, who is a priest and would have authority/credibility in their village. Their superstition might have made them correlate her mental condition and return from the Wilds, as a bad omen. Especially with the recent death and diseases popping up among villagers.

    • @Comissar_Carolus
      @Comissar_Carolus 6 лет назад

      At least you didn't die by being purchase like me, you were very fortunate because you succeeded without following Dillion. To find your way "easily" you had to follow his blue shadow, it would have lead you to the right direction, but you somehow managed to find your way^^

    • @Marzz
      @Marzz  6 лет назад +1

      Woah! So her father was behind the mob? I missed that completely. I could tell the villagers blamed her for what they couldn't understand. She saw what they didn't and so they attacked her for being different (Yes we can certainly all relate to that, poor Senua). I'm shocked but, not totally surprised that her father would be apart of it. I can't wait to get her through to the end!

    • @justjdnl
      @justjdnl 6 лет назад +1

      Actually I'm not sure there was any dialogue that directly confirmed her father turned the villagers against her, but it would explain a lot. On every turn he condemns his own daughter, shaming her for her liberal ideas (and wanting to be normal), keeping her indoors to avoid the disgrace she brings to their family (or so he believes). He tells her she is cursed and if she will go out she will have blood on her hands (referring to anyone she comes across outside, I assume). I'm personally convinced he would support any accusations that were made against his "cursed daughter". So sad :(

    The voices and hallucinations are starting to get you. It's one of the things that make me enjoy your play through. You're so genuine with your reactions, and I think on some level you relate to Senua, it shows.

    Zynbel (Senua's father) was played by Steven Hartley, same actor that played Eredin the King of the Wild Hunt in the Witcher 3.

  • @chrispeters114
    @chrispeters114 6 лет назад +16

    The thing chasing you in the plague world is Senua's version of the mob/villagers that probably really did chase her out of Dillion's village. They thought she had brought the plague on them since she had tried to warn them before they even knew it was a threat. And as she is "cursed" with the "Darkness" and been told so all her life, she believes it really is her fault.

  • @gavingreenhorn
    @gavingreenhorn 6 лет назад +9

    When i heard her father's voice i immediately thought that it sounds very similar to the voice of her "darkness" or whatever it was that spoke to her in the scene of Hela's appearance. It kind of makes sense to me, since we saw that it was him describing her mental condition as darkness.
    And yes, that is probably the same voice actor that read Eredin's lines in the Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. I can certainly imagine him saying "Zirael" in this low growling voice. Or at the very least, a similar sound effect was used.

    The labyrinth and the chase sequence is exactly what I look for in these single player stories. Some of my favourite moments in my gaming history.

    Oh, that part of the burial mound maze right by the red door where you lit the torch and wondered why there was a torch there? There's her mom's face on the wall right next to it!! It's a little more of the story with her mom. Everytime you hear the soft "Senua" spoken by her mom, it means there's one of her faces to interact with nearby. There was one in the swamp too. As well as one in this last section in the light world under the big bridge. The only trial that doesn't have her mom's face in it is the last one which will be in the next episode I'm guessing. Great work again!!

    For me the chase scene was definitely one of the most frustrating parts of the game. I dohorrible at time-based objectives.
    The gameplay elements in this game are quite original if you think about what they are meant to portray in Senua. Like the two ways to perceive the world around her; one being dark, cold and depressive, the other light, warm and joyful. It shows how she observes her surroundings, and how dependent it is on positive feedback. Same goes for the puzzle elements. Finding symbols in the world around her. Connecting shards so they form a bridge or stairs, to progress. From what I know some mental conditions let you understand things by first relating them to other things (as part of a network). They can't help but see patterns/rhythms in the world others do not. A very intelligable and exhausting quality, but fascinating regardless.
    Loki, God of Mischief, fooling man and other gods, is all in a day's work for him.

    • @Marzz
      @Marzz  6 лет назад +1

      Oh I love this. Thinking about the different ways she see's the world. I'm not going to lie i'm a very perceptive person almost to a fault. Environment alone can change my mood drastically. I can end up rejuvenated, emotionally drained etc etc. It's interesting and relatable to me to see it through her eyes and you describe it as such.
      Also... I really like the name Loki... I see a future pet name hahaha

    Though the Norse placed their dead together in mounds, two types of people got their own personal grave outside the mound with a headstone to mark it .... those who died valiantly in battle, and women who died during childbirth ... not all cultures dismissed women in those days. Femininity is used as a tool for deceit in Norse mythology for a reason .... all the 'male' gods, are also female ... but the goddesses are only female, and cannot change their sex in the Eddas ... their traits are whole. Thor especially shows his feminine side in the Eddas .... even taking the form of a woman to marry a mountain giant, saving the goddess Iðunn from slavery. The gods teased Thor endlessly about enjoying the consummation night greatly ... and he only ever half denies it. Baldr's story is really interesting .... and it's inclusion tells a lot of Senua's story. No one likes that "did you know" nerd, so I'll shut up and sit down now :)
    Really enjoying your play though of this, as always .... really entertaining

    That Episode was Intense and you did so much more better the Chasing part in the Fire trial because I died a Few Times because I was disoriented and stuck and I can't go anywhere, I am so proud of you, Very Good Job. :) But I see you left unintentionally for the best Trial in the Game, :D Just like the other Players they left The Fourth Trial last l because the Fourth Last Trial is one of the Hardest all of them. But you already beat Two of them and you are so BADASS, so you can do the Last Fourth Trial too, I am believe in you.
    And yeah The First Trial when she need to face her Father I already recognize his Voice, I already heard them in Witcher 3 too, Senua Suffered in Psychosis and his father thinks it's a Curse because they dont know how to deal with them, so he locked Senua and never let him go, but after she escaped her father House, there is a Plague spreaded to the Villagers and everybody thinks this was Because Senua.
    About The Third Trial that was one of the Hardest Trial all of them, and very Creative about the Wall Shadow & Windows Light Rune Symbol, It took soem times for me too to find and I just realize that symbol was there in front of my Nose XD.
    About your Mugs I love it so much and about your Neighbourhood he should be locked up at the same circumstances, I can't even Imagine, even thinking about is bad. So I just want wish a Good Luck for the Last Trail because you need it !

  • @valtteri5563
    @valtteri5563 4 года назад

    I don't think her father was that abusive considering the time. Her mother suffered from schizophrenia too, that is clear as day and that is the reason she got burned. Senuas father tries to protect Senua as long as he can, or she also will suffer the same fate. Also, saying that "boys will turn their back on her". That hit me deep. I was married to a woman who got scitzhophrenia in her later age, when we already had 2 kids. She started to be abusive towards kids so I had to divorce her - I turned my back on her because of her darkness to protect others. Things are not that simple like calling Senuas dad "abusive". He says there that Gods can only cure Senua through his hand - he is trying desperately to find the cure to save her from her mothers fate. It's not easy issue, abusive sure, but not purely evil. There are no black and white in world, only shades of gray

    to be fair, though, when it came to cpoying and translating the Norse lore, Snorri was, perhaps, one of the more benevolent and more well-intentioned ones. It's a pretty nasty and touchy affair, but, usually, when it came to things existing outside itself and its ideals, christianity was often less-than-friendly at best and outright destructive at worst and it is often reasoned that Snorri (as well as the Icelandic translators as a whole) was trying to save the Norse stories by tweaking them into a state that would protect them and hid their messages in metaphors and deeper meanings.
    ones like saxo grammaticus, however, were a different story. ones like him tried to smear it every chance they got and never hesitated to subvert the lore and turn it into a laughingstock.

    Well, her dad wasn't necessarily abusive he was controlling. He was an overbearing parent that wanted to control her every move. He reminds me of crazy overly religious people who thinks God can cure everything and everyone and everything around their child may cause harm. To the point where they barely want you to socialize or have any life, like they want you to go to school and come straight home. All that does is make the kid rebellious later on or make them fear the world.
