- For this week's adventure, we're heading to the @home Maid Cafe in Akihabara which is having a special Gudetama month, and we're having our first maid cafe experience. Martina loves every second of it. I, on the other hand, need to re-evaluate my life decisions.

No one should be forced to feel a certain way and he was uncomfortable and overloaded in that cafe which is understandable. He doesn't have to enjoy himself or half to like it. It is his feelings.

I think it's also on personality too and for me I think I'd be kinda awkward but all the maids are just so cute trying their best to make people happy, ya know! Even though it's just their job of course lol but I think it adds on to the experience when visiting Japan

Really admire how you both managed to keep upbeat and positive even though it was obvious how overwhelmed you seemed to be from the onslaught of and relentless attack of cuteness that is the Maid Cafe. Attitude is everything, and you made the best of the situation without being dishonest. Not an easy task.

Oh my gosh I hope those maids are well-paid because their job is practically table service + theatre performance. I would never be able to keep that squeky-voiced facade of cutesy manners for a whole evening the way these ladies do.

Martina is shaking her head while the maid explains (in detail) every single page of the menu. Like she fully understands it all. I would be ripping my hair out, and thinking why I am putting myself through this. I have zero patience for most things and I am sure this situation would qualify.

Enjoyed this video so much! My husband and I went to the @home maid cafe nearly two years ago, and had a very similar experience. We both really enjoyed the ambiance but also felt awkward. It is a weird combination of super cute and embarrassing moe-moe things. We had no problems eating there, despite extremely limited Japanese. The staff was very kind and many practiced their conversational English with us. Thanks for refreshing my memory! Glad y'all enjoyed it!

They are. If you ever talk to girls who worked at one it's a long term cringe-fest for most of them. Especially when extra creepy, entitled pervs come in. But more than anything, as with any job, performing for that long gets tiring.

Qinni, yeah people forget that it makes more sense to talk to people about their experiences instead of just making random idealized guesses. xD Yeah, for the most part many of them might like the job, but it's just like any other job... except more tiring because of all the acting and interaction with needy customers. And if they are having a bad day or are tired they still have to ignore it and pretend to be all bubbly and unnatural. Yeah, some aspects might be fun, but they don't "take pride" in their hard work more than people at other cafe or retail jobs might. It's like assuming that people who work at Disneyland absolutely must love it and don't cringe a lot. xD Spoiler alert about that... they also cringe a lot.

My friend works at maid cafe! I don't know why y'all assume the maids are actually "cringing" inside. Japanese culture teaches them to be friendly and kind and courteous to others.

i'm not talking about people who find it cringey. I'm talking about about people who in the comment section made assumption that the maids are "cringing". i don't care if people find it weird or awkward. But to assume that the maids are uncomfortable inside is untrue.
Recently i read a reddit post where they were asking these maid cafe workers what it's like to work there and the majority of them actually said it was super cringey and annoying.
I'm sure that some of these people enjoy it and love working there but I'm also pretty sure that a good chunk of them hate it and just work there because there's nothing better.
MsCroatoan you're not wrong. My partner and I went to a maid Cafe and you could tell that the majority of them working there really didn't like it at all. Of course, I had fun but my partner loaded himself up with booze before and during the meal. Odd experience, but still worth it. However, the cost of it was a bit much. Then again it is one of those touristy things that they can bill highly on.
In your custom and country, they are in Japan so yours do not apply there. It is really frustrating when people apply their customs in another country and say it is wierd.

It looks like they and Simon and Martina filmed together at the same place on the same day sitting next to each other! OMG. However, they uploaded their video like a week ago. Incredible.

When my bf and I were in Japan a maid tried to lure us into her cafe. She was doing such her best and giving me compliments about my tattoos (DBZ tattoo, ofcourse she recognize it) and stuff, also showing the entire 'kawaii' menu she had to offer. Bf was begging to me ,,Pls no, no let's continue, please let's go eat somewhere else" XD XD XD
We felt cringy that she did her best to lure us. I felt my head was turning red as well XD. But I guess that's because this entire kawaii stuff doesn't fit our character :D We are more of a DBZ, action, SF fan instead of cute moe moe maids :3 So I totaly feel you there :D
