@@creamsicleorange8266 idk about butlers, but as a regular servant, waiter or however you want to call it, you dont want to hold a tray on a flat palm, trust me. every trainer, manager or senior waiter will teach you to open up your hand a little bit~so i kinda looks like you are holding it on the tip of your 1st three fingers while the other two fingers are kinda clenched, but not too tight. that goes for fine dining also, same rule. and you are actually more maneuverable with the tray itself that way. but as i said, i dont really know is it same for butlers, its just that this way is actually safer as far as dropping things on your guests are concerned. so maybe Mel was trying to say that. Source: Myself, working at HRC for 2 years now.

I go to Swallowtail every year when I go back to Japan. Last year I didn't have anyone to go with, so ended up going myself...and embarrassed myself by trying to pour my own tea. The butler was like, "my lady, you mustn't pour it yourself, I am here to do that on your behalf". But I was so bored and forgot that you can't use your phone in there!
Is that why there's all the books then? Tea & a poem doesn't sound half bad.

I've been to this place (Swallowtail) 5 years ago. It's quite well-known among otome fans. To be honest, I'm not used to this kind of super elegant high tea, so it was the most nerve-wracking dining experience I've ever had lol. They literally do everything for you: pour tea, put the sandwich/biscuit on your plate, place the table cloth on your lap. And when you go to the washroom, they carry your bag for you until you get to the door of the washroom AND when you come out of the washroom, your butler is there waiting for you. You give your bag to him and he will escort you back to your seat.
My friend was a regular customer and she had like a card that they stamp on each visit. On her birthday, she gets a handwritten letter from one of the butlers. They're very polite but distant unlike host clubs where the guys are all over you.

It’s different to how European butlers act. For example in the bowing they would have some sort of hand gesture as well rather than a Japanese bow where they keep their hands to their sides. Although not many British people have the proper training in how to bow and curtesy now.

i can’t believe the butler who trained connor is still there. he’s been a butler at the swallowtail butler cafe for years! i would love to go to that cafe! 💗
I went to this butler cafe two years ago, it was an amazing experience and be treated like a princess for real lol . However, You have to ring the bell to get escorted to the toilet or the butlers to pour your tea, EVERY SINGLE TIME ( there was this dude who actually looked like Sebastian and I nearly fainted seeing him 🤣)
