What Working at a Maid Cafe in Japan is Like (Interview)
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 5 май 2018
- Maid cafés are a subcategory of cosplay restaurants found predominantly in Japan. Waitresses dressed in maid costumes act as servants, and treat customers as masters and mistresses in a private home, rather than as café patrons. If you’re interested in working at a maid cafe in Japan, I hope this video will help you understand what it is like actually.

I think the only place I’ve been to 5,000 times is my own house
And work :(
and school
Same.
Seriously! If you went once a day it would require, what, 14 years? I don't know if I've been anywhere 5000 times in my life.
Hahahha
That level of attention would make me pretty uncomfortable.
Yeah, I wouldn't enjoy it either.
i would find it weird but i think i would get used to it after some visits.
It's the path for real life nosebleeds [kidding]
Same, I kind of cringed because I felt uncomfortable watching it.
For me it was very uncomfortable, strongest culture shock i've ever had. I'm used to extreme awkwardness, but this was on another level. I'm not saying I didn't like it or that it was weird, but the entire time I was going through the strongest culture shock ever lol. You have to participate MUCH more than you think.
Me too, but I don't think it would be unwelcome in America. It's like a cute version of Hooters; or at least what Hooters used to be.
So 5000 times x $30 for each stay = $150000 for that top rank.
im just more impressed with the time commitment than the money LOL thats at least daily since the cafe opened.....if not multiple times per day
@@berubettonyan 5000 / 365 = 13,70 years if you go every day. LOL!
Hooters can’t top this.
im sorry but fuck hooters. all they got is hotness. these girls got the whole package and they aint even showing that much skin
chillbrownie Lets just hope they don’t HAVE a package
LOOL this is gold
@Happy Man I'm not your servant
@@yosshimaru7941 lmao no one wants to be coronas servant
Nobita leaves, camera man gets to stay.
I wouldn*t bother around maid bcafes.
this comment is underrated
I gotta be honest, as an American man, I honestly don't think i'd be comfortable going to a Maid Cafe. I like getting attention as much as the next guy, but this is too much lol
Same, but all that attention would make me nervous.
Mostly women putting on a front
yeah its kinda spazzy
Personally I reckon I'd love the attention, but thats cos a 20 year old guy without a gf.
Just remember that it's all make believe and play-acting, and it's fun. I find it far less creepy and depressing than the fake interest that the waitresses at places like Hooters give you.
Damn i need to visit japan atleast once in my life.
Experience of a life time
Detective X Shaman : You are disgusting. Only people I didn't like in weeks were other gaijin... we are grim people
tedd ys : Yes you do ! Wasn't interest by japan first... then I went once ! And it was sooooo great that I'm learning japanese now lol
+tedd ys I´d hate to say it, but ........... *JUST DO IT. Don´t let your dreams be dreams!*
Omg i was thinking the same thing man🤗😍😗🙂😗
I’ve already been
So entertaining to watch, but I think I'd feel weird with the hyper-attention and being called master.
I cant imagine myself going there alone. Im uncomfortable enough eating in a restaurant by myself.
@@Svoorhout85 lol the anxiety
That would be odd. Normally only girlfriends have called me "master".
"Master" is just one translation. An equally valid translation would be "Head of the Household" or "M'Lord" like in medieval England. In other contexts, it also means "husband."
I think you're supposed to roleplay the master. So maybe you're supposed to demand things and what not, in a respectful way, off course.
Nobita should've worn rabbit ears!
Lol, Nobita was so embarrassed and so cute as he was leaving
*Am i the only one waiting for the tsundere maid interview?*
Regular Person *Its not like i want to explain myself or anything b-baka!*
I like the dere part, the tsun, not so much.
P2M that was probably a yandere maid cofe
where this cafe tokyo?
OHAYO.😊 watashiwa shitai hataraku watashi wa Tasukete.M.Ghazanfar@44gmail.com
This was a nice break from the more controversial/deep topics (but please continue those, too!). I like it. The outfits are so kawaii!
You can't say "Sauerkraut" without looking like a wannabe-German.
...apparently the Japanese are "weeb"s, too? They throw out English words mixed in regular conversation all the time....but I can't? I'll stick with kawaii, thanks.
RexXflash ...seriously?
RexXflash, that's not a fair comparison. That's like me comparing the maid cafes in Japan to the Hooter's here in the USA.
Jumping off cliffs is pretty kawaii.
Even as an American, I'd love to work at a maid cafe! As a person who loves cute fashion and performing for others, I feel like it's a perfect blend of two things I really like! Hopefully one day an American maid cafe will pop up so I can apply!
Think twice
Because I am so shy of talking to Japanese people in public, I would be even more afraid to go inside a maid cafe even though I would like to go there as the waitresses dress beautifully and imo they are fun-loving! 😣😣😣😣😣
TheLondonBusMaster135 The best way for you to overcome a limitation is by facing it. Go for it, mate.
Don't be shy meeting women. Chances are, most women are trying to figure out things for themselves too. Everything begins with a simple conversation, make her feel the way you want to feel!
I'm kind of interested in what kind of psychologial benefits or detriments frequenting a place like this can have on a patron. I'd like to think that positive attention from attractive women, artificial or real, ought to be good for a man. At the same time, if you are too analytical and can see through the act, then it may make you even more self conscious. Either way, I do think it could be a stepping stone in getting more comfortable around women and female attention even though it does not realistically represent 'normal' interactions.
prostitutes would be a better way of gaining confidence with women. knowing you can fuck well and last long = all the confidence you need
legal canada nah in the long term i reckon this would be better, with pros you might eventually feel like you cant actually date a woman if you went a lot.
I'm interested too and was hoping he would've delved into the more psychological aspects of the job, but that might've shattered some viewers' illusions.
Its similair to a hostess club. As you said, some people see through the act and know their kindness and acts of affection is not sincere. But some people are completely immersed and some even become obsessed, spending a fortune on gifts to their favorite girls. Not to mention the entrance fee and overpriced food and beverages. Convinced that their affection is genuine. To the point they sometimes bankrupt themselves.
But a maid cafe also appears to be like an interactive theater performance. Thats where my analogy frays a bit I guess. Maybe thats why maid cafes are more commonly open to tourists? (hostess clubs rarely are)
I don't think otakus and video game lovers have much power in real life, be it over circumstances or attraction from the opposite sex. Here they get to temporarily escape to a world where they are masters over a bunch of subservient attractive maids, giving them a very artificial and escapist(in other words fake) way of feeling self worth.
Which is why I think all hostess bars are not really a healthy phenomenon, in the sense that they give you an artificial self-esteem in exchange from money from you. But I suppose it's just like how people use cigarettes or alcohol to escape the inner tensions within their mind, even though they know how unhealthy it is.

Being a cafe maid is not much different , at the heart, from geisha.. it is about making clients/customers comfortable and relaxed .. as much as possible:)
are geisha hookers?
Absolutely not.
@@julosx some did sell sex or became mistresses...
Or from any waiter... I know from experience maids can ne very talented, but I doubt they're well versed in playing traditional instruments, performing traditional dances and songs or in literature and arts. But yeah, essentially the same, just different level of entertainment.
@@Enjyu_666 precisely :) Though I am certain there are some maids that can surprise a master or mistress with knowledge of songs and stories :)

just curious with your statement "don't relly on anyone as I do everything for myself in life" then you never buy anything? making your food from the planning by yourself? make your own electricity by yourself?
ahh you don't need to reply if you disagree..
handi winoto when I mean do everything I wasn't being pedantic the things I do I do with the barest human contact if possible and yes my solar panels are mine and I buy most of my shopping online ,I have a large garden so I am more independent than most people but no man is an island , I can go months without speaking to another human shear bliss .

They're absolutely charming. It would be fun to see an entire meal served in this place.
Their loyalty to the business and love for the job is admirable. Makes me wish I had a job I enjoyed that much.
For some reason this video helped me understand miku from band-maid a lil more then band-maid ever has lol
Did you notice there was one real Miku Kobato maid photo in this video?
Just another reminder of why I don't go to Japan, because I would end up broke and in love with every Japanese woman I saw.
no shit! I already do at our local Mitsuwa Grocery store...

As for the whole Feminist argument, This shop is Female owned, the waitresses have fairly flexible schedules, and are paid WAY better than nearly every Tip Based Wait staff in the States.

so are porn stars... your point doesn't really hold
I see we are attempting to troll. Try again
no it is just stupid and degrading
but so are many jobs in "Capitaly"

But is it though? if they are having fun, getting paid well and are effectively in charge of their carrier and body, how is it degrading?
And again, Also paid pretty well, So again...

I have been to a few Maid Cafes. I love Akihabara😍
Akihabra is also my favorite Tokyo spot. So amazing and fun!
I went to a maid cafe before. My biggest regret was not photographing the food, but the whole thing was so much fun. It's like you've stepped into some surreal parallel world. Seriously recommend it to anyone who goes to Akihabara.

So this is where Miku got the moa moa and kyu kyu from! How interesting and amazing to learn about this. Thanks for doing this interview, Nobita. All the maids were wonderful and so was this content. I hope you do something like this content wise when showing different parts of Japanese tradition and culture.
Ah yes the small but mighty Kobato
This looks so charming and fun! I'd really like to visit someday.
I'm glad that they seem to enjoy their work as much as the patrons do.
Real life waifus, they are so damn adorable! That's a great interview, it's good to see how passionate these girls are about their job!
Diego Fernandes agreed!
So are the maids like the modern day version of the Geisha? If so that's so cool. Continuing on with ancient traditions in a modern evolved way.
I think there is a pretty big difference between those two. Geisha still exist today by the way.
Are they not both hostesses? Don't they both have to be trained. Don't both have to be knowledgeable about subjects in order to entertain? Can't the ancient and modern coexist? I think the difference is superficial. Explain the big differences please.
Geishas training is a lot longer, it takes years. It involves much deeper learning, in music and literature particularly. Therefore they can stay in business longer than a maid in a cafe.
@@ellielowehiem9303 Maid cafes are obviously in significant part an act for entertainment.
NOBITA please!! Get a better camera and give us at least 1080p! Your content is to good to be watched in 720p!!
Higher resolutions are also good so you can crop smaller portions and still have acceptable resolution
The effort these ladies put forward is quite amazing, the overt positivity is enchanting
It looks like a fun and unique environment, the Japanese are known for their good manners, hospitality attention to detail and ceremony , the above seems like perhaps a contemporary manifestation of a long standing tradition..? Maybe it's also a nice way for Japanese people to feel special after a day of hard work or study without much fun or personal attention? Good luck to them.
I think it is a modern Geisha idea.
I'm glad you've gone back to more interesting Japanese topics! This was one that I was really curious about!
What a nice way to say: "You've been here long enough. Get the fuck out of here now." I liked it.
I see this less as cringe and more as a continuation of the geisha culture. They have the same things in common:
- beautiful, wearing nice clothes, perfectly behaved.
- ranking system where you can work yourself up to improve your maid or maiko/geisha status.
- perfectly serve the guest (referred to as "master"/"mistress"), almost like reading their mind and knowing exactly what pleases them.
- elegantly but efficiently selling them food and maybe even prolongue their stay or make them return to the facility.
This is amazing. There is a certain appeal to such kind of businesses. I wonder if people would like that if f.eg. a tavern in England or Germany would fully act out and recreate old-style butlers, medieval-age-style, or late 19th century-style cafés. With fitting interior and according behaviour and immersion by the staff. Definitely Japanese tourists would check those out!
That's actually not a bad idea! And with food from that time period.
Isn't that basically what Medieval Times is in the USA?
@@DoubleMonoLR I don't know them. Are they a reenactment group?
Tbh when I visited my first maid cafe and took pictures with them and had cheesecake that was the best day of my life
I think maid cafe is just a mild version of club hostess.
yes
I went to one with my wife when we lived in Japan. We had a great time. It was so cute and there were games and singing and dancing. We got bunny ears to wear while there. The food was all cute, but a bit expensive.
I remember a maid coming to me with a mic during a song and I got to sing "moe moe" a few times.😁
This video convinced me to try visiting a maid cafe
Me too also when I come back again in Japan. I would really prefer the @home cafe.
one of the many reasons i love japanese people,so humble and kind and dare to say probably the most openminded people on earth.
A Japanese friend insisted we go to a maid cafe. It was by far the most uncomfortable experience in my entire life. The position they put you in and the things they make you do are quite humiliating lol. Never again haha
why does he look like the kind of guy to go to a maid cafe everyday as soon as the place opens?
*I NEED MY MISAKI-CHAN!!!!*
They seem so sweet and it also seems like they enjoy their jobs.
I went to this place, the maid (waitress) we had was adorable, the atmosphere was fun, and there wasnt any issue communicating. We went to the top floor and were actually interviewed by a production company. At times it did seem a bit over the top when you just wanted to sit there and chill. However, even that kept one smiling. The food was quite tasty too! Quite enjoyable! something i would do like once a month but not 5k visits worth :P
I hope I can visit Japan in the future.
Offcourse you can! Start saving up money dude. Where there's a will, there's a way.
Me too.
I went to this maid cafe. The maids are hilarious. my japanese is limited and very broken but we had a great time. the food was decent the dessert was epic
The @home Café is a wonderful place! I visited this maid café in 2015. I was very impressed by the talent of the maids at drawing animals! I guess people always ask for the same animals (cat, dog, rabbit, monkey) but it really impressed me! I didn't know about the promotion/rank system.
Very respectful maids in Japan i love the professionalism that im seeing in this video and almost every video that Nobita is showing
I was there last week. They have an app with gamification, and if you reach silver status (five visits), you can see which maids are in service at each floor so you know which floor to go to!
Very good place, although it's super popular and crowded all the time except early in the morning (go then if you want a more personal treatment).
Great video! Japan is truly a magical place. I am so thankful that I have the opportunity to live here!
Been to this maid cafe twice. The experience is really fun. The maids that work there will really try their best to speak to you in english if you're a foreigner and make you feel comfortable and relax while you eat your food. They even try have a small chat/talk with you and make your experience unique.
Very informative. It gives more excitement to me. I'm really want to experience the Maid cafe especially their Kawaii Moe culture.
This would be my number one on my bucketlist when I come back again in Japan aside for my Railway hobby.
Good Interview Nobita:-) ❤️ Maid Uniforms So Kawaii!
Akihabara and maids - this gon be gud
Me watching this enjoying
My fbi agent: pathetic little sh*t, hey guys let this guy go to a maid cafe
I like how at the end they tell you " you have more important things to do, so piss off! "
Wonderful!
I get a photo with a maid 4 years ago, she is still working and become super popular.
Omg, this was so good, I couldn't stop smiling :D I think I'd cry from happiness if I ended up in a maid cafe in Japan... xD
Please refrain from blaspheming.
Aww they're so adorable and feminine! I love it. :)
that was cute, entertaining and filled with info and knowledge! it's interesting to see the world from their own eyes instead of from the regular customer / fan or anime or manga eyes. thanks!
Omg 😯 if my Japanese was better I would like to work at a maid cafe. It seems like so much fun and I’m great at customer service and being attentive to my customers’ feelings. Plus I can be cute like a Japanese woman ☺️✌🏾
I’m straight but those women are cute lol
I had a lunch at @Home Cafe 7th floor a couple years ago, a lot of guys in their 40's/50's (like me...) it was a little weird seeing these old guys bringing in stuffed animals and other trinkets to give to their fav. girl. the girls just toss em' in a big pile behind a counter, like their saying "yeah dream on old guy"
MrDboydeluxe isn't that what they pay for tho? The fantasy?
The timing of this video is crazy! I'm going to Tokyo this month and my Japanese friends want to take me to a Maid Café haha.
These girls seem like the are "maid" for the work they do ;)
Good interview, but I'm wondering what happens when these girls start getting a little old (losing their youthful appearance). Is there any consideration for what they'll do in the future? Is there an expiry date on girls with these jobs? I ask because, every single Maid I've seen is uber-young and these sorts of jobs seem to prioritize youth above all. No one stays young forever, no matter how good your make-up.
Management or get their MRS degree.
I can tell from what I watched about some maids when they have graduated. Some of them simply take up other jobs. Many of them are highschool students btw so earning some money while studying is the reason why they e.g. take up a maidcafe job - and leave it after some few years. Other maids - those with longer experience also in entertaining especially - go into other clubs to entertain people - or also into the entertainment sector in general.
Or they become "premium staff", thereafter "leading staff" with responsabilities for the store operations in general. Many of them are cosplayers, so some maids have experience in modeling and may perhaps go into that sector thereafter (photogaphy, posing for fashion, and modeling is a widespread sector in japan, especially in the cities). Other start a normal life (when they e.g. have completed studying, a degree, graduated and ready to take up a job for a living, which otherwise is only possible in a maid-cafe if you advance further there and of course full-time as a part of the core staff.
The oldest has been there 13 years. I would think at about 20 they would have enough bucks to retire. I would also imagine many end up marrying a patron.
The "oldest" Maid is actually still there and soon has her 14th anniversary (the cafe itself already went across its 14th year of operation) when ♡Hitomi joined there - and instantly took the opportunity being the very head-maid because as far as I know she is and was already somehow affiliated with all that, she is also an artist and maybe is one co-owner. But I am not sure although being "President" of the maidcafe (Hitomi) implies many attributes and preconditions to actually get up to such a position or title.
I think we assume the girls are simpletons. I doubt that and likely extremely smart and know how to put on a good show. Groucho Marx about his brother Harpo. He may look like an idiot and talk like an idiot but let me assure you he is an idiot. Playing the role of the damsel in distress who seems to half shy of her marble supply has been going on for centuries. This brings out the dumb behavior in men. I will save you? Ha ha ah.
Maybe interveiw them after work Somewhere else. I mean when someones at work talking about being a maid they may be lying so they dont get fired
No one forced anyone to take a job there.
Ok, my love for Japan just skyrocketed. XD
This place is like a paradise for weebs.
I said this once and I'll say it again: Japan has the world's most beautiful women.
Raziel I agree 100%
South Korea too.
strongly disagree. slavic women are way sexier.
I'd say they have the cutest women. As for beautifulness, mediterranean, nordic, and eastern european are on average sexier. For some reason i still prefer asian women though
SansyBoy South Korea 90% of them are fake plastic, they all gone under surgery, Japan has real natural beauty!
I wanna go to a themed cafe. The US needs more places like this.
U guys got hooters
@@yeahboyz9314 Yeah, that and a place called Twin Peaks. They don't call you master or get more into character like the maid cafes though. Lol.
Went to a maid cafe last year when I visited Japan and the people are super nice and have great food/drinks. Had an awesome time even though I didn’t speak Japanese. Communication is not a problem and managed to have pretty good conversation with them.
7:23 So for Canada.... Maple syrup, caribous, hockey/winter stuff and something.... roughly accurate. Though if you come from a place like Saskatchewan, what represents you would pretty much be fields of corn. lol
I would like it more if it were more like your usual cozy cafe's.
You draw way to much attention from everyone which makes it way to uncomfortable. E.g. when you leave.
Ahhh! I really miss Maid cafe in Japan. Hope this pandemic ends!!!
Absolutely adorable. I'm taking my niece to one as soon as she's six years old.
Wow...when i was in Akihabara i remember a cafe maid trying to get our small group to go to her cafe. But we decided to do something else. Next time I'm in Japan I'll hit one up.
They all look cute
Shhh!...Did you hear that?... It sounded like a wild feminist growling in the distance....
A wild feminist appeared! *(Pokemon battle music intensifies)*
These women will do anything to make other women feel ashame at what they do for a living. Hell, some of them even shame beauty pageants (I know, weird right). Not everyone can work in fancy office staring at a computer screen all day, I respect any woman who's brave enough to serve her customers, even in cute little skirts!
"Hey!! Reyzpekt whamen!! I'm vegan!!"
- Wild feminist used illogical arguments
-999,999 DMG
- You are confused
- You are rendered unconscious
Feminism is about choice. These girls are clearly enjoying what they’re doing and chose to apply for this job themselves. So no. There’s no feminists growling anywhere.
Been curious about these made cafes! One day I'll be able to go in person lol thanks for the super informative video!!! :D
I have to say, going to one of these would make me smile the widest smile ever
Ohhh I really like @t home cafe, I would like to meet Hitomi someday, she's gorgeous! :3
Me too also. Hehehehe.
Finally a video !!! Thanks nobita
Put a hidden audio device in their dressing room/break room and you'll see what they really think about the job LOL
You can say that about any job.
That's the whole point of the comment. It's a pointless interview, especially if you're gonna do it at their work place and not privately while being anonymous.
This was great, haha! I went to try a maid cafe in Nagoya a couple of years ago. It was a really cool experience! They even had a dance performance with glow sticks.
@home maid cafes are fine.
At least they're discreet, compared to Maidreamin and their constant auditive pollution of the area through their goddamn speakers with the same overused music over and over.
Modern day Geisha. I really enjoyed the Absolute Area maid cafe in Akihabara
かわいい ! They are all so freaking adorable! Cute and so kind visiting one of these would make me go broke lol
Maid cafes are the best. I went to one in Osaka and all the staff was super-friendly and helpful. I tried my best to speak and practice my Japanese with them and I never once felt like they were judging me.
Maruru is the cutest....CUTEST!
