All Stars 3 is now a legacy season at this point, but the twists from the season are still regarded as some of the worst of the franchise. Is this still true today?

My issue with the jury twist wasnt the twist itself, its the fact it was unannounced. If in episode one, Ru walked in and explained that the final two would be chosen by the eliminated girls, everyone would have played the game differently and it would have been a lot more interesting!
Yeah though I agree I see why it was saved for the end because it was supposed to be "a big twist" because the girls weren't thinking as much about the consequences of sending eachother home as much as they would had they known that they were gonna be judged on who should be top 2
Thr only problem is that the lip syncs would flop because people would be throwing them to not eliminate anyone (although i think it would work on the as7 format)
The twist wouldn’t have worked for above reasons … takes away from being a “twist” of contestants know about it. Truth is it was a terrible idea to start with.
If the queens knew about the jury then the whole thing would've been a best friend race, I found it highly entertaining to see Shangela plucked because she tried to be strategic.

Channels dedicated to Rupaul’s Drag Race sometimes do a list of some of the shadiest comments queens have made but they always miss out when Chi Chi spoke to Ben when pleading her case and said “don’t make me the Roxy Andrews of season 3“ referring to how Detox and Alaska kept on saving Roxy on AllStars 2! The burn 😂
That moment was pure gold
That acting challenge where they had that segment of queens farting is the reason why I will never rewatch that episode of AS3
Never forget that Rock M Sakura was judged for doing a fart joke after we had gotten fart humor written into the challenges every season

I remember the Reddit "leak" that Bebe was a mole in the competition, and she would choose who would go to the top 2. I still think that could have been an awesome and balanced twist due to Bebe having a crown already
i literally talk about this everytime all stars 3 gets mentioned. they messed up SO bad. like it was such a perfect opportunity for them to reintroduce Bebe to the newer audiences, make her look really good in front of everyone, AND control who goes in the finale (cuz im sorry they could easily have bebe sign a contract for a cheque where she would simply pick the top 2 that they tell her to).
No way Bebe would have agreed to spend money on costumes without having a chance at getting the prize

If you go back and watch the first episode of AS3, most of the queens are trash talking Ben de la Creme for being tired and disappearing. Trixie didn't. Trixie was literally working down the street from her when they got the call to come back for the season, and she knew that Ben's show was better than hers. In another world, Ben might have stayed till the end without the girl group challenge rules being what they were (and they were messed up). People forget, though, that Trixie argued to the jury that the top two should be her and Shangela. I see a lot of Trixie hate for winning, but she had no part in those decisions, and she tried her hardest to make sure the most deserving girls were standing at the end.

What’s the source on trixie thinking Ben’s show was better than hers? Was that in Provincetown or something? I’ve never heard that rumor and I’m intrigued
@@pkmn7777777 it was in Provincetown. Trixie did a video recently where she put on her S7 drag, and she talked about the struggle then, but I was mixing up the years once I went back and double-checked that. It was the summer before AS2 when she was struggling so much. She said in another video (maybe the one where she reviewed her AS3 looks?) that she and Ben were both in Provincetown when they got the call, but I conflated the two summers since they were working down the street from each other both times.
The jury really was the worst twist. I don't think that the jury twist was brought in for Trixie to win like most people say though, it was definitely for Bebe. There's no way they could've let Bebe win the season because everyone would've yelled rigged, but they couldn't eliminate her because it would've made her initial reign seem illegitimate, Shangela was just collateral damage. Trixie was in the right place at the right time.

I think they definitely wanted a Trixie win after the fan backlash to Katya losing. They just didn't realize that Trixie wouldn't do as well or be as big of a fan favorite as Katya.
The only thing here is that it wasn't Trixie's fault that everyone decided to vote for her for the top 2. All of it fell into her hands just launching her to the top 2! But we beg to differ everyone has their different opinions 😊
The jury was brought in because fans acted insane when Katya didn't win the season prior. The basically moved the responsibility from the judges to the queens. Also, I honestly don't think Shangela would have even won had she been final 2. She has done an rendition of Wrecking Ball in club performance and it looked like a mess.
@@1bwash From what Trixie has said (on either UNHhhh or the Bald and the Beautiful), Shangela allegedly had a pinata and sledgehammer under that outfit she was wearing in the final 4 episode. No idea if that concept was used in the version you saw, but I'm at least intrigued as to what it would have looked like.
@@inlovewithJLT honestly if they wanted a Trixie they would've pushed her more, she didn't do bad in the competition. They would've given her the win in the improv and the kitty girl groups if they really wanted her to win so her track record would be stronger. They also wouldn't have let her be eligible for elimination in snatch game, they would let her be just low because of the risk of being eliminated. But that's just me
i’ve always thought a better way to implement a jury for Drag Race would be to instead have the eliminated queens vote for one of the final 4 to not continue to the final 3. had they done this, i think that Bebe would’ve been eliminated due to having won already/her attitude throughout the season, and we would’ve had a top 3 of Trixie, Shangela, and Kennedy. it’s a lot more fair in my opinion since the whole point to begin with of All Stars is to eliminate each other.

For me AS3 was basically DeLa's drag race. She was a wild card going in. I didn't know how well she would do. And she completely obliterated the competition. It was so unexpected. Her exit is one of the most iconic moments on drag race but I still would've loved to see her win another challenge next week and take that crown. For me, the season ended after she had left. What a legend.
I haven't watched this yet, but I think people forget how great Trixie was at pleading her case. A couple of girls have come out and said that her pleading her case was what made them vote for her.
After Dela eliminated herself AS3 really went off a cliff and never recovered. Though it did give us the iconic line "Not Bendelachrist!" which I say out loud to myself constantly and it lives in my brain rent free. Aja is such an underrated icon.
I definitely don’t think the twist was meant to help Trixie. If they were pushing for a Trixie win they could have/should have incorporated more challenges she would likely be successful in, like a makeover or roast. I agree, it was designed to protect Bebe.
Yeah, if they were trying to help Trixie, they wouldn't have screwed her snatch game by making her do Dolly early
I think you're partially correct. I feel like it was made for Ben DeLaCreme with those challenges. I think when she left, Trixie might've been their next choice and jury system helped with that.
I think the season's twists colud be fixed if either:
-Production told the queens that the top 2 will be decided by a jury
-Bebe was actually a mole and she decided the top 2
France season 2 did it well with a 5 vs 5 Girl Group challenge when the worst of the contestants and the best of the eliminated queens fought for a chance to stay/return.
I wonder if the “eliminated queens come back and compete” twist played a factor in why Dela left the competition. She’s explained before that part of her reasoning is because she was tired of having to eliminate people but I never even thought about the fact that in that episode she would’ve had to eliminate one of her own team members. She probably hated that.
The ‘protect Bebe at all cost’-theory would also explain why production allowed her to not reveal her lip stick picks (given she’s the only one ever not to reveal her pick)
they've never forced the girls to reveal their lipstick lol they only do so because the other girls ask
@@johnnybaxter8078 I don’t believe that this is what actually happens, production clearly wants ‘drama’ and reactions from the reveals since it basically has the same amount of air time in each episode.
Sure, they make it seem like as if the queens reveal it themselves but I am not convinced that all of them do voluntarily without any productions pressure.
On the other hand, queens as Bebe receive some more free passes on that matter.

I doubt it though. If I remember correctly, she had pulled Trixie's lipstick and knowing how big her fanbase was... she knows there would be some huge backlash and hate thrown her way.
The producers missed out on the drama of bringin back Aja and having her eliminate Bebe. Have Aja be Top 4 and THEN have the jury twist.
What would that have really changed though?

I hated the jury format but If you default to Lip Sync for the Crown you get very understandably controversial wins like Jinx vs Monet in All Stars 8. It's amazing TV if you get two queens who can lip sync, but otherwise it can be very one-side.I think having each of the queens do a performance like Season 8 or the Talent show, would be the best way for each top queen to showcase their talent.
Tbh, Drag Race sucks because of the "fans" in my opinion. The majority of bad producers decisions seem to be made with fan backlash in mind. How to get the least amount of blood on their hands. How to please the fans. How to balance making good tv while not provoking the fans too much. All for a bunch of miserable people that have nothing better to do than send d*ath threats to queens they don't know. I'd much rather have a show that's not afraid to make decisions, give us gag worthy moments, and provide us solid tv. The fact that a show has to worry about getting "blood on their hands" is wild to me. It's literally just a tv show.
They should’ve done what France did with the comeback challenge. The worst of the remaining queens and the best of the eliminated queens go head to head in a lip sync to either stay in the competition or rejoin the competition
Can you imagine an Aja vs Kennedy lip sync to "Nobody's Supposed To Be Here"? We were robbed.

In retrospect, it was kind of odd that Ben was allowed to participate in the twist considering she removed herself from the competition. Imo, if you quit, that’s it
I think it was revealed or at least rumoured that production forced her to, she didn't want to do it or something like that
It was mentioned that she only participated after they mentioned that she had to due to her contract
I agree it was strange but the difference i think that would have also been taken into consideration was the fact that she quit as a decision to eliminate queen, not leaving while in the work room. So on a technicality we could say that she was eliminated in a real elimination. Idk just something else to think about
Then again if im think like that it would have made ginny lemons exit an actual elimination which means that she would have been able to be a comeback queen after the lockdown break. If she had stayed on the stage and thrown the lip sync and ru eliminated her then she would have been fine to come back.
Ben's "quitting" wasn't the same as we've ever seen before or since though. She was given the power to send someone home and she chose to send herself home. She wasn't at risk of going home and she wasn't refusing to participate in a challenge or a lip sync.
I honestly don't think them giving the win to the eliminated queens wouldve made the remaining queens look worse, it would just be like "hey, just because these queens got eliminated early doesn't mean they can't slay other challenges" which is kinda what theyre doing now by casting early outs on all stars
i feel like the bendelachrist act was really fun, and it was foreshadowed a lot throughout the season, the full opposite of the Jury that was out of nowhere and just straight up unfair and not satisfying at all
Funny enough Dela looked pissed the entire finale because it she viewed the twist as unfair and refused to participate but production forced her to vote because she signed the contract even though they didn’t tell them they would have to vote until that day
What pisses me off is the obvious production rigging with Bebe being told to throw the lipsync so Ben could do her thing. If she had won the lipsync it would’ve been gaggy to see Ben step in and sacrifice herself. And probably see Aja come back

I don’t think so they were actually pissed Dela did that even Dela has talked about it they just knew she picked up Kennedy’s lipstick they actually banned whiteout for drag race after that I think Bebe did it because back on the early seasons think of Shannel her headpiece coming off and showing that emotion actually won her the lipsync and I kinda wish Bebe won because she chose Trixies lipstick Ben could’ve still eliminated herself if she wanted and Shangela would’ve had a clear path to the crown

We should stop talking about track record and who did better than who. I’d say that Monet did better than Jinx in AS7 and ate her alive in that final lip sync but they still gave Jinx the win and tried to edit out Monet. It’s all relative and at the end of the day it’s a tv show.

I don’t know if there is always such a strong bond in the groups they work with. Remember when Alaska eliminated Alyssa in the shequels challenge, because she said she was so bad during filming

The Jury twist i think if it had been known from the start would've been a really great twist because you can see the potential alliance and mind games actually taking place, so the winners every week actually pick the lipsticks strategically and to make sure to have a good reason to send someone home.

Everyone always says the producers have the winner picked out, but we only ever see the final edit where a story can be crafted around who won. The production team most likely has two or three options for winners and they just let the chips fall and pick the best option from the remainder.
I say this to say, Trixie, Shangela and Bebe were all good options for winners. So was Ben. The production team would be happy to crown any of them, it was just a game of who made it to the top 2.
I think the twist wasn't to protect Bebe but to remove her from the competition. It made no sense for the 3rd All Stars winner to be a previous winner, she was meant to make it far but a new girl was meant to be crowned, yet passing her up for another queen at the finale is also dicey, and they knew her status was enough for the queens not to vote for her.
What gagged me the most was that Bebe somehow got more votes than Shangela, I'm sure the intended consequence was a Shangela - Trixie top 2, but the queens really weren't feeling Shangela that season.
I would like to remind everyone what Trixie, and other fellow queens, once said: you see the true winner *after* the season. She also commented on Dela eliminating herself: had she stayed in the competition, she would’ve won for sure! But she didn’t, and if the other queens didn’t choose Shangela to do the final lip sync, they must’ve had a reason! At the end of all, Trixie is a winner, get over it 🤷♂️
Dat winner's money ain't bad. $100,000 can get you a few used cars or a really deep freezer full of meats.
@@Raza_T1AO Trixie barely took money home from her win. Tax in CA is ridiculous, and the prize money in RPDR is considered as a lottery win, not an income tax. She spent 20k on outfits alone, but she only took home less than the half of 100k after winning (around 40k).

This is SUCH a good season despite the finale. It had great challenges, consistent drama, a queen quitting, and funny confessionals. I don’t like to ignore this season just because the finale was such crap.
The twist in the last episode of All Stars 03 was the worst thing in the whole season
In a sense, I liked some of the twists just because it was something different. That being said, it was pretty unfair. So with Ben getting the choice to eliminate one of her teammates and replace them, that didn't make sense. And of all the girls, she chose the one who went home first. Trust and believe, Morgan is one of my favorites to ever be on the series, so I was rooting for her to begin with. But just to bring her back the episode before the finale, we all basically knew she would go home again. The only other time they ever brought back the first eliminated queen was S8 with Naysha, but that was two episodes later. Not after the whole season was almost over lol. But for Ben that was the easy choice because Morgan was technically the only one she really sent home... I don't count Thorgy or Chi Chi because both her and Shangela picked them anyway. And as far as the jury twist...again, something different, so it entertained me. Would I like to see it again? Absolutely not.

The rumour that canada all stars would have always three bottom queens and the winner of the episode picking who gets saved from the lipsync could work so well because after that decision there will be one saved queen grateful to the winner. Will she return the favour or not? And the queen who wins the lipsync gets to stay, and knowing that the winner didnt save her: will she have revenge if the positions switch? That would also make better lipsyncs, for girls would be fighting for their lives and not just a win. The queen could still be allowed to change their outfit as the top all stars usually do
If they wanted to showcase Bebe in the competition AND have a shocking twist for the finale, they should have had Bebe reveal at the end that she was actually a mole working for Ru, and that she gets to decide who the top 2 is, with the help of the jury. That would have gagged all of us, kept Bebe legitimate (since she managed to make it to top 4 presumably on her own) and would've been an amazing twist.
That just sounds dumb, tbh lol it sounds interesting on paper but would be executed poorly and I'm sure fans would hate it.
@@Shane3125 : Probably still better than the BendelaChrist/Jury twist at the final ep tho. I know Bebe would be able to pull it off, she wouldn't even need to act that much.
I love trixie and am glad she won, but the jury of peers was definitely a little shady for not voting shangela, and good on thorgy for being the one to do it
They just shouldnt have brought BeBe back because i knew immediately thatbshe was gonna have a spot to the end or the finale.

Honestly, I would've wanted Thorgy or Aja to come back and for Bebe to go home. I know the reason Rupaul gave for Bebe coming back, but it doesn't track to me. She already has a crown, that spot could've gone to a queen from the first season who didn't win.

Unrelated but I cannot stop thinking that Season 10 premiered one week after the ending of All Stars 3. WOW knew they bombed real hard with the Jury and they wanted the backlash to pass quickly, so they released a brand new season back to back.
drag race always had a very rushed schedule, all stars 5 premiered like 2 weeks after s12 finale. do you want to say that WOW regretted crowning jaida and immediately went to another one?
And then all stars 4 came out literally like 9 months after as3 aired like what the f-

How can any deserving frontrunner win if the decision lies with a bunch of queens who are bitter that they were eliminated by the frontrunning queens?!?!
I wish they could put a wheel with the following elimination formats: LSFYLife, LSFYLegacy, Jury. Each week an option is "randomly" chosen and taken from the wheel. Would put a lot of tension on the queens and at the same time it would be transparent as to how alliances occur.
The only way for jury to work is full Survivor where the voters are present for all the judgings and see all. Would even be fun to have an elimination lounge where they watch/talk about the challenge.
The jury was absolutely implemented because of Bebe, I think that makes the most sense by far for pretty much exactly like you said, which by itself makes the twist not that bad. It was the fact that the queens weren't told prior that ruined it, and pretty much just set everyone up for backlash the moment the queen nearly everyone wanted to win wasn't voted into the top 2, and I'm saying this as a die hard Trixie stan.
This was pure evil, so unfair it was clear that production didn’t want to give the crown to Shangela no matter what including Rupaul. Trixie won out of favoritism but didn’t deserved it she had a poor run in the season
Idk why I never thought about this but this is the first season I watched as it premiered and looking back in retrospective it was the first All Stars like Season 9 to air on VH1 so the out of nowhere twist at the end kind of makes sense now. New network= major change.
Here’s what should have happened in the return episode. Dela V Aja Rematch, (best of both teams), Aja wins, returns to competition and eliminates BeBe. Happily ever after. Only really works if you think Bebe doesn’t win, which arguably she does…
The elliminated queen episode should have them be devided into the 2 groups and if the top queens win then they get to choose who returns but they wont loose anyone from the top 5, and if elliminated queens win then their top 2 gets to swap places with one of the top queens. This way either top 5 get basically one more free week since unless that queen wins she is secure ellimination, and if the elliminated queens get one to return (or possibly have their top contestant lipsync against whoever they want to replace [so trixie cause they would have wanted to win the lipscyn]) then the one who gets to return will return with one win (and any other win she had before getting elliminated) and have the chance to either enter the top 4 with having the possibility of getting 1 more win on the next episode and be proper competition
The eliminated team versus playing team, can bring a format of playing in teams the whole season, maybe 3 teams of 5? In a no-full contact communication. As just knowing other team players by the lipsync battles? Could be interesting
I just rewatched AS2 and started AS3 and the drop off was wild. It’s not the queens faults obviously but the way the twists were executed
The problem I have with the jury is that the eliminated queens don't really know what happened after they got eliminated, especially if it was early in the competition. They really can't form a good opinion on who deserves to win because they weren't there.
And I don't think I would like a jury system, even if they knew beforehand. The would be conservative with the drama because they wouldn't want to piss anybody off in fear of not getting voted Top 2, even if that queen might deserve Top 2. Would probably end up becoming Ru Paul's 'Best Friend' Race.
aren’t they technically doing a “jury” vote in the current all stars now though? when the queens vote who who they want to go? yes that’s not the only way of being eliminated / or winning but i think that’s still a jury way

Gotta disagree on the Bebe thing. I felt she wasn’t up to par with the newer queens. To me she was carried to the finale just because she was a former winner.
I saw Ru on some talk show explain solemnly that what she values most is 'kindness'. This was really funny as it is obvious what Ru just loves is an opportunity to provoke nastiness. From "which queen do you think should be eliminated" all the way to bringing the eliminated queens back to spend at least 10 minutes whining and accusing - this is absolute trollfodder. No wonder poor Bendela decided to tap out. The jury idea was silly too. Didn't enjoy this much at all.
I have never seen big brother, so I don’t know how the jury system affects the game, but. I like that the jury was kind of kept secret until the end, because otherwise the whole show would be about jury management and not the drag of it all. There’s already an epidemic of queens on the show trying so hard to brand themselves and the producers meddling to ramp up the drama, so I think even MORE fake personality editing would be bad for all stars. And I acknowledge that I have a bias because I love Trixie and, while I can and do admit Shangie’s talented as duck, I’ve never liked her. And there was something validating to me to see the other queens didn’t vote for her lmao I think if you’re going to try to play to the jury then it’s going to come off fake.
If they had just let Aja win in the returning queens episode (as she should) she could have eliminated Bebe and then Dela would have just won the season (as she should)
Im not angry tracy won. Tbh she was my fav of the options but it cleaely shouldve been dela. Her growth from her season was also massive
Lipsync for the crown is shit in regular seasons I don't want it anymore, but they'd have to replace it with something well thought out and PLANNED
i actually enjoyed the returning twist on as4 and i think it worked. latrice was actually given enough episodes to continue her storyline and strengthen her chances of staying and she definitely did. with morgan it was a fail from the beginning. if aja would've returned it would've been pretty similar unless she won the challenge which wasn't that likely

I really disliked the jury. It's a popularity contest. I knew Shangela would never make it into the finale. It didn't get in her way; she made A Star In Born after the season. That opened doors for her. Plus Trixie was a great winner.
Id like to give the winning queen the CHOICE to eliminate a queen themself or make Ru/the group vote do it. That way they can choose to be the one to pull the trigger or not. Maybe tie the $5k prize money to if they eliminate or not or some other in-competition bonus to make it a real risk/reward vs neither situation

I think how they should've done the season was 10 episodes, the queen's know the Jury twist from the start, in the returning episode if the top 5 queen's win the top 2 of them get to lipsync to choose who returns, and everyone is safe, if the eliminated queen's win they either have the 2 best lipsync to see who returns, or they both return and lipsync to send home one of the top 5, then they have a makeover as the extra episode

i agree that them knowing about the jury is important but at the same time, if you think about it, the jury gets to vote for who they actually feel more affinity with instead of voting for who pretended to be lovely just to get votes for the whole competition, it's a bit more honest but at the same time, a jury like this (unqualified people who are judging based on literally nothing more than personal feelings) is never gonna play professionally, if u want it fair, use the normal judges that will judge in a professional way on professional topics whether we agree or not

regardless of how u feel about the twist, I think trixie has aged as one of the better winners of the show, cause she's achieved so much since her win so ultimately I think she was a great choice for the crown.

I would love lip sync for your live in All Stars, but maybe a way to shake it up. What if we would combine groupvote and lip sync for your live. Maybe each week there is one winner and that winner is safe from voting. Ru decides which the bottom 2 or 3 queens are and the group votes which of those queens will lip sync. Then the queen who is chosen, choose a lip sync opponent out of all queens, besides the winner, or the top queens of the week. Or maybe the winner of the week can choose one queen to safe from lip syncing among all safe queens. I dont know if it would be to much, but in my head it sounds kinda fun😅
Also they did re do the returning girl group concept in France season 2 and did it much better. They had the best of the eliminated girls lipsync against the worst of the remaining girls and whoever won would stay in the competition

I hate the voting for each other thing in AS. It’s just not something I enjoy, especially all the back and forth talking and begging to not be eliminated. There’s so many more interesting things they could be using the time with, and instead we get dramatic picking of the lipsticks and endless talking heads. Nope, not my thing. Great if it does it for someone else, though.
My thing with the jury twist was it wasn't made to get rid of shangela it was to eliminate bebe cause yiu can see with as7 that they didn't want the winners to get eliminated cause it might like dimishes they're win so theywanted to get rid of bebe without actually eliminating her themselves

I think it’s fine. Just like survivor and some of the other real competition tv. I also think there could be some off camera incident and behavior that we couldn’t have known that led to this result.
I didn’t mind season three - it like life, you can do really well in life, but some times crap happens and things don’t work out the way you hoped - the format I enjoyed the most was all stars 7. After that, the formats regardless of the show, seem like a let down.

The Bebe twist(s) were total bs but made for great tv. She should have been in the bottom for the Diana performance* but then that makes it look like season 1 wasn’t the bag of chips.
*when they want to protect a queen from the bttm, they give them minimal choreography so that they can be, at least, safe. They did the same with Jimbo in AS8. It’s funny when you see production moving the marionettes.
