  • Thanks to Sunny ‪@LoreForged‬ for the voice over. The dude is a renaissance man.
    Ashes of Creation is an open world MMORPG set in a fantasy environment where you can choose different classes and races to adventure through with your friends. Intrepid Studios is the developer behind the game. They’re technically an indie studio, but their creative director Steven Sharif has a clear vision for his video game: Massively Multiplayer Role Playing Game. He wants to put the massive back in MMO. Exploring dungeons, griding for gear, crafting armor/weapons, learning new spells, and competing in large scale PvP battles. High end PvE such as raids will mainly occur in the open world. Bosses will spawn and roam through the land. Are YOU ready to enter the world of Verra?

    So basically the story/quest lines are a bit like a choose your own story book, i like that idea, just so long as i don't miss out on stuff, which it seems we wont.

      actually you will but like how fromsoft understands it, its acutally better when there is content that many player swill never see because than each server will not only have its own story but servers history and news buffs will talk to eachother to learn whats availble before making their own server aware of it and there will be plenty of different metas popping up as this server unlocked this node first and everyone got these good sets from the nearby dungeons and world bosses that spawn while a different server opened up a different node and got completely different gear choices and so had a completely different meta form around that. it may feel sad in a way that you likely wont see everything but if you ask me, thats the best type of game because than you have all the room to keep on playing more and more and more and more and finding litrally everything you can either on your own or through jolly cooperation with the community with plenty more to find ALWAYS still on the horizon

      @@R_o_o_k_i_n_g_t_o_n Oh for sure, i get the server side of it, but in this video they say that you can still do what you might have missed, so yeah your right, one server might do one line and another might do another line, but they also said they reset, so unless you get a group that does the same line every time, which would be stupid, but i wouldn't be surprised... fastest way to the end and best gear and so on... then it should be fine.
      Also, try using punctuations mate, it was a little hard to read, thanks for your reply also.

      I think the idea is to miss out on stuff, there's a really good chance you won't get to experience EVERYTHING in Ashes, but that isn't the point. It's about the journey and experiencing YOUR adventure, your experience should feel kind of unique.

      @@rjswas Shore one server might take up making a different note on Metropolis based on a different server having done that as well but the thing is, what time will it take to do that and the fact that there's 76 nodes to try means that there will 100% likely be plenty of content but you will just never get to experience

    • @SuperBlackatude
      @SuperBlackatude 3 месяца назад

      You will have to be constantly going from high level node to high level node to play all of the node/instance content but it seems like the "main" or "story" missions will have plenty of time for you to go do them. As long as you dont let nodes go from 3-5 for example before you visit them you should be able to play all the "story" missions on a long enough time frame. Realistically it will take a very long time to see all the content unless there is server wide and server to server communication. Every individual node will take weeks to months to level (not including the chance that surrounding nodes impact content so they would need to be leveled also) and you have to destroy high level nodes in order to level other nodes. Unless the entire community tries to min/max or 100% Ashes of Creation it will be years before everything is discovered

    Multiple branching quests is fun an all, but when it is in a single player. It would not be fun to make the wrong choice and then be excluded from a reward, because is and mmo, so no going back. How would they address that?

    • @Hzuuuu
      @Hzuuuu 3 месяца назад

      They won't and don't have to address it. It is the nature of Ashes where every action has its own consequences.
      Major story arcs go beyond individual rewards. Whatever you do as a player, will be counted towards meeting a certain threshold to unlock one of many possible outcomes.
      Personal story arcs will probably be a lot lighter in narrative defining choices. But again, it's not like you will 100% know the outcome or the rewards unless you're following someone else's guides.

    It reminds me of living campaigns (living greyhawk being the big one)
    At the end of each official session the DM notes certain outcomes and sends it back to the writers. The writers then tabulate the outcomes and the most chosen path becomes the official outcome.
    Sometimes players had certificates that indicated they did certain things or gained favour with certain NPCs, and these will impact future modules.
    Ans sometimes at conventions major events will happen as a one off onpy available then to dramatically change the course of the story.
    Like that but instead of sending results back to the writers its the server doing everything in a much shorter turn around time.

    Nice production values, excellent research. I would, however, question the "all seeing eye" analogy. The prompted non-programming explanations from the "guest" devs notwithstanding, thus far I have seen nothing in the livestreams that might indicate a more complex algorithm than the ubiquitous condition-spawn mechanic that is integral to the standard kit of online games. At this stage, I am firmly in the WYSIWYG camp. As the relative complexity of the condition calculation does not eliminate the inevitable predictability of a condition-spawn mechanic, events and story arcs will become managed by the playerbase, wherein they are triggered on demand. Intrepid has yet to demonstrate an "if you do this, this happens, but if you do that, that happens" scenario, though they may do so during the upcoming Fighter update, as it appears to be associated with the story arc triggered at the end of the Commissions stream. Another caveat is the scope of the content required for a branching system. Unique branches require entirely unique content. Such a system would involve an exponential increase in the volume of content per branch, which is ostensibly impossible for any significant number of branches. Of course, the expectation is that branches will not have entirely unique content but rather, as is common, will re-use/repeat/reskin the same content in multiple branches. Even so, the task of creating even this sort of content for the described expansive system seems daunting. Of course, 200+ devs are working on the game now, so in the three or four years that seem to remain before launch, a lot might get done.

    Every time I see a system from Ashes of Creation, it's more complicated than every MMORPG out there, and it is "taking it one step further". This is what worries me... the last time we heard this the game was called Chronicles of Elyria. I am not saying they are the same, CoE was never gonna go anywhere and it was obvious from day 1 (I never even paid attention to it as it sounded so absurd). But AoC is not too far.
    CoE promissed so much that it was obvious it was never going to happen. AoC seems like they are actually doing it, which means this will come out in 2035. Which means a lot of tech will come into the market, and they will decide to change it again... and keep doing it...
    I am just watching and waiting until they say they are redesigning everything using AI programs, and then start over.

    Well, currently my main concerns are none of the things talked about here, but the free-ness of PVP(already burned on trying the game called Stay Out where you've got little to no consequences of "accidentally" moping the passer-by when they've walked too close to ongoing PvP Zone Contest event, and that's not even counting outright Gankers), and the amount of your belongings that will drop from you upon getting PK'd, all the systems can be great as heck, but with how things are in modern gaming, when things reach certain threshold -- Im at 100% chance of not wanting to try it

    • @Hzuuuu
      @Hzuuuu 3 месяца назад

      The flagging and Corruption systems are very complex. They're designed to encourage active defense in PvP yet also as a deterrent to mindless PK/murderhobo. If you don't fight back, you'll suffer 100% of the death penalty. If you do fight back, you'll only suffer 50% of the penalty. Note that I'm talking about the rate of the penalty, not your inventory. As to what items you may lose if you die, you'll only lose raw materials. Never completed items nor gear.
      Anyone who kills you if you're not flagged for PvP will immediately become Corrupted. Corrupted are treated as an enemy mob and are free to kill on sight by anyone in the server. They may also drop their gear if they die. Their positions will also be broadcast on the map for Bounty Hunters to find. The more they PK, the more Corrupted they will be. Corruptions will make them a lot weaker as well as multiplying death penalties up to 4x the regular amount.
      I know it probably won't make you feel satisfied, but it's still something. PvP is the core of the game after all. Everything you do is against other players who don't align with your ideas.

    • @SergeyWaytov
      @SergeyWaytov 3 месяца назад

      @@Hzuuuu well, that's actually answering most part of my concerns with the game, but "PvP Flagging" thing sounds a bit confusing -- do you mean free roam PvP, but you can flip a switch that will say if someone killing you will get the Corruption stacks or not? • @Hzuuuu
      @Hzuuuu 3 месяца назад

      @@SergeyWaytovCorrect. The flagging system is like telling other players that you consent to open world PvP. The game intends to heavily punish PK, so players who PK others who do not consent to PvP must be ready to face many and big consequences.
      In any case, while it does sound good on paper, there will always be players who PK others for no reason without a care for the consequences.

And if you want hardcore pvp and nothing else because pve is just not your thing… well, there’s always tarkov (or its less known, blocky version: stalcraft) and GW2 and elite dangerous or EVE, depending on what themepark you want. Can play all those games PVP-exclusively.

      @@VeryProfessionalGamer raiding is just going through a script. nothing hard in it, just maybe a bit of time to figure it out.
      Don't worry I played and I'am still playing competitive games, some of them at the highest level. The issue is with mmorpg. Almost ALL of them are made for borgs who can't play for shit.
      The only pvp(RVR) mmorpg that had hardcore mechanics(hard interrupt, strong CCs, incredible synergy of classes for teamplay) was daoc. but borgs like you prevented a game with similar mechanics to be developed, or even some of the ideas to be implemented in an mmorpg. seeing players playing a mmorpg for few months and then jump on the "next big thing which actually is not even big) makes me laugh
      Prove me wrong, not by solving a damn script but, especially on what I said about SPECIFIC game mechanics
      This game doesn’t even have factions…let alone 3 factions lmao. sad asf

      This game has way more PVP than it does PVE. I think you need more research.
