    Hi Dennis,
    You made a comment about only having one curve template from Fast Tracks. What I do is take a straight template for what size of switch/turnout you want. I then take and cut between all of the ties up to the straight stock rail. That's both the long and short side of that stock rail. What your doing is making the paper template more curvable for your needs. Lay it where you intend to build your switch and curve it as needed. Then I take clear tape and tape it together in the curved position. Now you can take the template to your workbench and build it there or build it in place. This has worked for me and I hope it works for you as well. I enjoy all of your videos. Thanks for sharing.

      Awesome, brilliant! Thanks for sharing such a simple solution. This one is getting pined! Lol.

      @@OtterCreek here’s a couple more ideas to try. I thought of these while running a real train at work. You could print out a standard gauge curved switch and adjust your stock rails as needed. Or maybe use a N scale curved template. In either method you will need to make adjustments. The last idea is to get the FT twist ties and build the switch in place. All you need there is some form tools. Good luck 👍🏻

      I really like the idea of using a paper template, the only trick there is getting it off the railroad and on the workbench while maintaining it's correct shape (taping it). I'm pretty adverse to building one in place, that's something I'm just not really interested in trying. I've adjusted the stock rails like you mention, I did that on my curved cross over. It worked, but I'm not pleased with the look of it.

    Nothing boring about your videos, Dennis. It's your way to show us what you do and that's why I'm here. You made a lot of progress in 2023, way more than I did. It took me several months to find a way making good looking deciduous trees in O scale.
    Have a happy new year!

      Thanks! Truthfully I'd hoped to get more finished than I did, but there was a month or two where I couldn't get track. If you haven't found Boomer Dioramas yet, his channel is a great source for tree work!

      Oh yes, I'm watching Boomer (and Dusty) for a while and intend to use his techniques in my way for conifers. But for the deciduous trees I have something in mind like one can find in the Appalachians: Trees growing in groups like families (in the second half of my video ruclips.net/video/dO0QtxWGE4c/видео.html ). Something new to model railroading so to say.
      Cheers.@@OtterCreek

      Thanks Lewis! Yup, two years have passed since I started the OC&RG proper. I'm on target to have trackwork finished in the next two... hopefully. Then I can get serious about scenery!

      Thanks Anthony, I was kind of surprised as well when I went back and looked. Truth be told, everything in the room right now (less the time saver) is just now two years old! There’s hope I can finish this thing before I die! Lol.

      Well congrats to you too! For the most part, I pay zero attention to any of the analytics. They have nothing to do with building a model railroad! LOL. I have to remind myself to thank the ones that have subbed, which I don't do often enough. I tend to remember to do so when a new benchmark has been met. Happy New Year!

    Have you shown how you cut and support the foam sections that act as replacement for your spline roadbed? If so, kindly reply with which video. I can't seem to find it in your library. Thank you in advance.

    • @OtterCreek
      @OtterCreek  10 месяцев назад

      I’m not sure I understand the question, I haven’t replaced any spline. I have added foam to the spline, by gluing it on the sides. I cut the foam with a table saw, the same height as the spline which I think is 1.75”. All spline is supported with 1x4’s. About 2’ apart give or take. Does that help??

    The layout looks great! Using LCC to control turnouts/routes is quite interesting, are you converting LCC events to DCC accessory packets or using LCC to drive turnout motors?

    • @OtterCreek
      @OtterCreek  10 месяцев назад +1

      Thanks! I use DCC for trains only. Right now LCC is only for turnout control, block detection and a little bit of logic as noted with the throat turnout to staging.

      @@OtterCreek very nice! I'll be using it for most of the same myself. I'll also be using it for DCC boosters, circuit breakers and auto-reversers
