I still have a quest 1 and it’s terrible because the games are more demanding and needs better hardware so it’s at like 20 fps so ima try to get a quest 3 for Christmas from my parents
YES. I've been thinking about buying a Quest 3 as a christmas present for myself but I was waiting for this video because I knew you would post a good and honest review about it. Thank you and keep making this amazing content.
Got one coming from psvr2 and quest 2 with a gaming PC. Quest 3 is siiiiick. But right now you have very very limited 3rd party options for battery straps that actually significantly boost the battery life.
First day of owning this, his video is spot on really. And my biggest and major complaint is just the battery I don’t feel like anything can compete as a con compared to the way the battery life does. I feel like it goes buy 1 percentage a minute for me but to be fair that was right out of the box and I have not broken it in yet either so
@@Bla_blah99 I've bought and returned two battery straps, meta's, and another one I got off Amazon. The game changer for me was the binbok VR T3. It's a comfy battery strap that comes with two huge magnetic hot swappable batteries and a charging dock. And it's the only one I've seen so far that actually charges it. Now I never even plug in my quest because I'm always just switching out the batteries to charge it when needed.
Best review I've seen. Finally someone pointing out that the content is inexistent and the hardware is flimsy. I'm getting so tired of big companies buying their way into positive reviews through supposedly independent influencers. Keep up the good work!
@@CcSmokecC I bought a Quest 3 and it's actually really badass. What I don't like is the Meta PC software. Virtual Desktop remains much better for PCVR overall. The Quest 3 hardware is damn good, but like everyone has said, it sucks down the battery when you're really using it. Having an extra battery pack is pretty much a must-have.
@@chan13153 He isn't salty? He paid full price with his own money, and his critiques are fair and realistic. While those who got the headset for free doesn't mention the issues GetHip informed us about.
I upgraded from a CV1 to the Quest 3 on a drunken whim and so far it's been absolutely worth it. Finally being free from the cables is the main factor for me, but the resolution bump is staggering. I know I'm a bit late to the party by skipping 3 generations of headsets and innovations but the differences are immediately obvious. I wish you had touched on PCVR in your video but AirLink has been flawless - Alyx is even more incredible now and 'classics' like Robo Recall and Lone Echo feel like new games. I've yet to try Virtual Desktop for a full 120hz experience but I'm holding out for an update for AirLink. The downsides: The battery life is indeed a shock but 2ish hours is acceptable for my use. As a minor complaint the colours aren't as accurate as the CV1's OLED but I think the increased resolution makes up for that. The quest UI needs a single shortcut to enable AirLink from the main menu too.
I bought the Quest 2 on a whim on release day, thinking i'd have fun with it for a month then sell it. Ended up using it 2 hours every day for the past 3 years.
I could not make wired Link at all over usb2 cable. Airlink is also garbage for me. Virtual Desktop is leaps better, with upscaling and oblivious resolution/refresh rate choice.

Very interesting, I’ve been using VR since 2016 and I had not heard of this neck strain issue. Before I ever got VR I had some pretty bad neck injuries, and I feel like the additional exercise I’ve gotten from wearing a headset actually helped with my neck muscle strength and flexibility
Finally the guy Ive been waiting for since August. Love the fact u are not one of Meta’s chosen muppets and dont hold back any opinions. U shit on it as well as praise it. I dont know what headset u use in your daily life, I come from Audiotechnica MX50 which is not bass heavy and Quest 3 sounds very much the same to me. Clear AF and I was personally positively surprised at the amount of bass coming out of those speakers. Hope u make more VR Quest 3 related videos.
I was also surprised with the audio quality but it sounds far better when you cup your ears, so some earmuffs would be great with this. Although it really doesn't compare to actual headphones like Koss, but it's actually doable without.
I love the quest 3, the resolution and FOV improvements are solid and more apps will (hopefully) push the limits much further…that said battery life isn’t great and it’s just not comfortable for long periods. Hoping third party solutions can address this but for a $400-$500 headset it needs to be comfortable.
you know, this why i watch your content, you may clown around, you may dislike zuck but you are a fair man, if a product is good then you recomend it. I can trust your opinion. Great job, keep up the good work.

I also had problems with the Guardian sliding or disappearing during game play. It is one of the main reasons I returned my quest 3 as it wasn't worth the risk of punching my fridge.
It's unusual for me because this is the exact opposite in my case. My Quest 2's guardian used to slide around while my Quest 3's doesn't even move a centimetre.
I upgraded from a Quest one. Loving it. I have a dead pixel but its so on the edge of the right lens that it actually strains my eye to look for it so all good. I have just ordered a new wifi 6e router to use solely for wireless PCVR. Can't wait for it to arrive.
This guy’s personality and energy he brings is the best content, editing is excellent, speed of presentation is a.d.d. Proof. The point he brings up, there is no content, is the center of the biggest issue, far away in second place is battery. After this review, all budget from meta intended into the vr venture needs to immediately move to software production and support for quest 3. Thanks for the honest review. I wanted to buy one because everyone hyped it up so much and i got FOMO. Now i realize that its much more nuanced. Again thanks!
I really appreciate this video and the honesty I've been on the fence about getting this for my sons 14th birthday but after watching this I'm definitely going to the store today to buy one if it's in stock
I’ve watched about 5-6 quest 3 reviews this last weekend. This is perhaps the best. Only missing a bit more on airlink. Right, I’m off to the shop to go buy one of these.
You're spot on the lack of content. Meta has their updates to AR/XR coming sometime in Q1 of 2024 with V60. (Some say December 23). With that said, it was rushed out the door and they plan to fix it later.... We can only hope.
appreciate your honesty, it's a relief as it feels like most youtubers are just meta PR, you mention so many issues that everyone else somehow ignore. Great review though, the positives definitely outweigh the issues, I mean just the FOV alone is worth the upgrade for me.
I've had my quest 1 and 2 controllers drift right around the next quest comes out, so I won't be surprised if the quest 3 controllers start drifting right around the quest 4 gets announced.
I was surprised by the quest 3, until I cleaned it with my shirt. I always did this with the quest 2 and nothing bad happened. But if you do it with the quest 3, it will scratch up the lenses. Creating a permanent fog in where ever you tried to clean it at.
I sold my Q2 a few years ago, and just tried a Quest 3 some days ago, the lenses were a huuuuge upgrade, seriously considering buying one, was so much better than I remember my Q2 being.
I would hereby claim that the white pixels are on *every* headset, since those are not a cooling problem but rather a software issue that appears to be triggered by a certain set of circumstances, oftentimes liked to using different features quickly after another. Most users can probably trigger it by simply taking a couple screenshots and then starting a game. Can happen directly after starting, and can also not happen hours into a play session, unless you multitask. It simply is not a heat issue, and im 98% sure it will be fixed software side.
@@thedoomslayer5863 While im very sensitive to dead pixels, mura and other visual problems, i wouldnt worry about it too much. Even if there are quality control issues, it will only be a few fractions of a percent up to maybe a very few percent of unity that have any kind of actual problem. I heard so much about dead pixels, mura, light bleed, horrible passthrough, overheating, or the battery just emptying itself over night, that one would think you can barely get a working unit. But it's like that for every single hardware launch in history, ever. Those who get working units dont complain. And over millions of sold products, even if there is just a 1% chance for something like dead pixels, there will be those who get 3 such units in a row and then are (understandably) very vocal about their quality control concerns.
The bloom/flare one the q3 drive me nuts. Mostly on black backgrounds. For exemple when you start bigscreen , and looking at the blue logo. Watching a movie is almost impossible for me. Shinny thing that pops at your eyes keeps distracting me. The two other issues are indeed the garbage strap and the poor battery. I hope kiwi design puts out a new battery strap for the q3 . Loved it on the q2. They mentioned release date q4 of this year.
So Quest 3 is good, but you need to buy a battery pack, new face cover, new head strap. So plus 150euro on the price of the headset. Yeah i'll stick to my Quest 2 and wait for 4 probably. Hopefully it will have OLED screens.
I'm in the same boat as you buddy. I've got 3 Quest 2s and a Quest 3 that I only used once. It's uncomfortable and the battery life doesn't work for more than 1 hour and 45min.
I have a quest ONE, yes you read that right, THE FIRST ONE, and I thought it was the most amazing thing when it came out and to see reviews of this thing saying that screen door effect is GONE and that the quest 3 is in a whole other standard than even the quest 2 is makes me really exited to get my hands on one, can't wait until I get some money.
I hope that now the quest 3 has been made and released, games like bloodtrail will get released to quest standalone easier without as many downgrades and games like b&sn will be able to look more like the pc version and support the maps like citidal on it and the higher corpse limit
i feel like a lot of these problems are sweeped under the rug with "just buy a third party option" which while a good point, feels like it shouldn't be a problem now that the headset is $500, the price increase should justify it being comfortable out of the box, and yet its not
Got the Quest 3, the passthrough is mediocre, but definitely better than the Quest 2's. It's very light dependent, and even outside in daylight, it still looks grainy. The best features are the lens and the new chip. It's a very very noticeable change coming from Quest 2.
With the pro I could ALMOST ready text on my phone and monitors. If with quest 3 I can finally read my monitor or phone clearly that's all I care about. I remember playing half life Alex and having to take my head set off plenty of times to watch some walkthrough on some puzzles and it was annoying as hell putting it on and off on and off on and off. If I can just clearly see my monitors, read what's on their screen and my phone then I'm golden.
I honestly prefer my reviews come from those that don't need to bullshit because their payday comes from it sounding good to the company. It's like taking a car salesman's word that this is the best car ever. I run my company the same way. Thanks for this review. Made me sub.
I really hope Meta focuses on just improving the Quest 3 with hardware revisions and software updates, 2021 has so far been the only year without a new Quest release and it makes me somewhat hesitant to buy a Quest 3 knowing it might become immediately irrelevant in a year's time.
I upgraded from CV1 to quest 3, and so far I'm loving it (besides a pc vr oculus visual glitch), but the battery life not lasting the length of a full movie is a real bummer and there aren't any fullproof situations to extend that battery life (yet).
I just bought a quest 2 and for the stuff this brings to the table im glad I did. It just seems like very few things I care about that much as a casual vr gamer. I wouldnt use AR so I cant really justify 240 extra dollars for this thing when it only offers like a tiny bit more
I'm a Q2 player (Now with Q3) and the fact that the lenses are so much more crisp is worth it. It's lighter, it's more clear, better performance, better tracking. Tbh. It's not a "tiny" improvement. It's quite the improvement over Q2, actually. However, the Q2 is a fine headset. I've loved it and I think it still holds up, although I've mainly played PC/VR so there's that 😂
@@OiskiPoiskiDK I've been using the quest 3 since its release as a competitive beat saber leaderboard climber. The headset is good, but its tracking is horrendous compared to its predecessors. I've had multiple high pp plays get diminished by an error with the headsets tracking.
I'm not saying that that is not what you've experienced, however, I, myself and every other person I know with a Q3 and a Q2 says the tracking is way better and the Q3. I've also only red and watched good things about the tracking 🤔
@OiskiPoiskiDK There are very few people saying it has better tracking. You need to see if the person is sponsored and / or incentivized by any relation to meta. Tests have proven that the tracking is worse. I love the headset just as much as anyone, but you don't need to act like it has no flaws.
I made a black square texture with a white border, and ran my VR app using that as the view scene for both eyes. I could barely make out the square border at the edges, couldn't see past the edges at all, and it was vertical/horizontal. I really don't understand why the internal screens are rotated 30 degrees to "help with field of view". The view is square. If you fit a horizontal/vertical square inside of another square tilted 30 degrees, you're wasting pixels that aren't even being used. I'd like to see how the 30 degree screens are actually being utilized.
mmm maybe a little read of the instructions might have helped you with the facegasket. the strap can actually be pretty comfortable if you dont wear it wrong. and that gpu issue was old software, its been fixed in most games, that was just like a day one issue. and like any other camera the passthru needs light alot

Thanks for the honest review. I wanted to buy one because everyone hyped it up so much and i got FOMO. Now i realize that its much more nuanced. Again thanks!
first time on this channel, ur editing is FIRE bro, sub added.

Dude cracks me up
Love your videos
Stay independent hip this is very trust worthy unlike some other creators
Great review, dude. Also, VERY nice use of The Grand Budapest OST 🙂❤
I was literally planning on buying a quest 2 2 months before the release of the quest 3 so now im officialy saving and buying a quest 3😅
You won't regret it. It's amazing 😁
Great review, great music. Monsieur Gustave H would be proud
Did you get it? Airlink is trash and you should get VD anyway. I even got it on sale for like 14 or something.

LOL
You're spot on the lack of content. Meta has their updates to AR/XR coming sometime in Q1 of 2024 with V60. (Some say December 23). With that said, it was rushed out the door and they plan to fix it later.... We can only hope.
Came for ZUCC, stayed for kanye transitions and head gasket blowing machine.
appreciate your honesty, it's a relief as it feels like most youtubers are just meta PR, you mention so many issues that everyone else somehow ignore. Great review though, the positives definitely outweigh the issues, I mean just the FOV alone is worth the upgrade for me.
I love mine, its fkn awesome, might want to wait for 3rd party accessories to catch up
I've had my quest 1 and 2 controllers drift right around the next quest comes out, so I won't be surprised if the quest 3 controllers start drifting right around the quest 4 gets announced.
As for hardware I'm worried about dead pixels
Things to get when getting the quest 3
- 3rd party strap with or without a battery
- 3rd party face pad
- Any controller straps (optional)
I'm in the same boat as you buddy. I've got 3 Quest 2s and a Quest 3 that I only used once. It's uncomfortable and the battery life doesn't work for more than 1 hour and 45min.
i upgraded from a rift s to this, the difference is absolutely insane
i like how you called the old quest strap borderline terrorism.
3:12 I can’t be the only one that’s noticed he has been using the same valve index Pavlov gameplay video for years now
Nice car! Welcome to the Subaru fam!
Duuude I need you to stop roasting the Zuck so you can start getting invited to these events lmao
I hope that now the quest 3 has been made and released, games like bloodtrail will get released to quest standalone easier without as many downgrades and games like b&sn will be able to look more like the pc version and support the maps like citidal on it and the higher corpse limit
i feel like a lot of these problems are sweeped under the rug with "just buy a third party option" which while a good point, feels like it shouldn't be a problem now that the headset is $500, the price increase should justify it being comfortable out of the box, and yet its not
@@rangerkayla8824 I fully agree, I guess they expect to make it uncomfortable and then sell more comfortable head straps and make money that wayv
Congratulation ! You are the 100th you tuber that has produced a quest 3 review video - well done lol 👍
tbh the later the better, no rush to join the hype train usually means more objectivity and it shows.
@@Verociity Very true lol
Dude literally has a VR headset tanline.. Truly a addict if ive ever seen one
I really hope Meta focuses on just improving the Quest 3 with hardware revisions and software updates, 2021 has so far been the only year without a new Quest release and it makes me somewhat hesitant to buy a Quest 3 knowing it might become immediately irrelevant in a year's time.
Finally, been refreshing every day
I am new to Meta Quest so I appreciate your review.
that some-BODY killed me
I upgraded from CV1 to quest 3, and so far I'm loving it (besides a pc vr oculus visual glitch), but the battery life not lasting the length of a full movie is a real bummer and there aren't any fullproof situations to extend that battery life (yet).
what off brand head strap would you recommend?
I just bought a quest 2 and for the stuff this brings to the table im glad I did. It just seems like very few things I care about that much as a casual vr gamer. I wouldnt use AR so I cant really justify 240 extra dollars for this thing when it only offers like a tiny bit more
Same!
Just saying, the jump from the HTC vive to this...
The many negatives here don't seem that bad compared to that old thing
