Johnny Gill sounded like a grown man when he was a teenager. Powerful voice, powerful!
Yasssssssssss even when he was singing with Stacy Lattisaw💯 he started wearing suits 2 school in middle school and was in the family gospel group🎶
He was 22
He sure did! Lol
@@akumulight When he recorded with Stacy Lattisaw, he was 16.
@@icecreammaker5007 No. Johnny and Stacy Lattisaw were both 18 when they did Perfect Combination n 1984.
And both were 22-23 when they did Where Do We Go From Here? in 1989.
Tim saying “we need the groups back” gave me chills.
Sadly there’s no money in groups anymore. Not like the golden age of 90s/80s/70s
I know! That was good RnB. I want the hear Troop.
Trust me... There's still plenty of money in groups.
Me, too!!
Bring that sound back with it.
"They don't make music like this no more". Truth!
Bobby brown wasn't even in that one.
Facts!
Not at all ! Love new edition
RnB groups were EVERYTHING!!!! The range of vocals and harmonies created such a rich sound!
I agree. It was such a special time in music.
The music is well contributed as well.
You ain’t lying!
Harmonies give chills!!
These youngsters don't make music like this anymore. It is ashame
Johnny's vocals brought them from kids to Grown Men! Their producers were Jam & Lewis formerly of The Time under Prince. Johnny sounded like that at 15.
Very much so
So many musicians lead back to Prince!
Bobby Brown: Every Little Step
Bell Biv Devoe: Poison
New Edition: If It Isn't Love
Cheryl yes, yes, and yes! Great suggestions
“If it isn’t love” is their best song!🔥
Love all these songs, especially If Isn’t Love!
Those are some of their best songs!
Listen to Cheryl, guys!
I'm on a campaign for En Vogue "Hold On." You will love the ladies' harmonies.
Giving Him Something He Can Feel is the real MVP
Yes
Or even “Don’t Let Go”
EnVogue, Jade & Zhane' plz😊
Yes
"Bring the groups back!" 👍😃
Hell yh
Man, there’s no New Edition without Ralph Tresvant. His voice is the defining piece of the group.
Yes!! That's the one that gave them the chills...... and made the girls crazy 😁
What no waysss you just said that 😖
What is this & what are they suppose to be doing?
He has a unique voice, but Johnny Gill is the only “SANGER” in NE.
@@calvinfranklin4135 tell em Calvin!
It's always good to see the younger generation appreciate the older music. New Edition is still one of my favorite groups
The twins are now the hardest working guys on the internet 💯
🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
....best spent time on RUclips...
@Louie Parcarelli Yeah, that's why I had to unsubscribe for a minute. They were coming at me too often. But I still love em.
They are the BEST !!👏👏👏🎶🎶🎶👏👏👏
Facts😂😂😂
One of the most underrated groups of all times. They each had talent. Then had successful careers separately. They need more recognition. NE4LIFE
They're not hardly underrated and have won numerous awards including the BET Life Achievement award and still touring 2 sold out crowds, bruh underrated ain't even applicable for them tho👌💯🎶
@@conniemoore1786 Don't take offense. A lot of us do recognize their talent, including me, but unlike NKOTB and Backstreet Boys, NE is rarely mentioned when talking about the great 80s & 90s 'boy bands'. They are underrated by the music industry. They enjoy touring, but have even said themselves that they wouldn't be touring as much if they weren't taken advantage of and overlooked by the industry. I agree that BET has held them up and honored them, as have their fans attending concerts. But the music industry as a whole has not recognized the true talent that makes up NE. Press would rather talk about Bobby... IMO.
@@mrs.c6437 ...I'm so not angry or something like that and We as a people already know wassup with whyt artists, and the list is endless, but that's something I won't give any energy 2, and let's just stay with black people, cuz we're never eva gonna get that BS and we don't need their interest in our music, no offense tho, anytime someone whyt does something that black people are doing, the🌏stops🙄🙄 Peace
@@conniemoore1786 Respect.
Aw, man...I wish you’d done “Cool it Now”. That was their first hit with all the original members. They were all so young, but you could tell they were going places.
Also candy girl
They were 12 when they started.
L G I kno that
If it isn’t love!
you are wrong, candy girl was
I just love the way Tim can't control himself the music just takes over
He literally could NOT control himself!! :) I thought he was going to lose it at one point but that just made it even more adorable. I don't think I've seen him this animated in a while! :)
"Can You Stand The Rain" is my favorite New Edition song! And they are still killing it after more than 40 years!
Mine too! ❤
Saw them last year!!
I just saw them on their Legacy Tour at The Forum in Inglewood, and the kicked ass! Johnny and Ralph drove the girls INSANE when they did “My My My” and “Sensitivity.”
@@patrickorourke41 'My, My, My' is my jam!!!❤
This is probably one of New Edition's best songs ever. With lead vocals by Johnny, Ralph and Rick with Mike and Ronnie carrying the harmonies. Just incredible!!
Yessss
I’m with everyone else on here... you need to listen to Bell Biv Devoe - “Poison”.
And please, some Kool and the Gang. “Hollywood Swinging’”, “Jungle Boogie”, “Get Down on It”, “Ladies’ Night” (that’s good roller skating music right there), and “Celebration”. And then maybe some Ohio Players, please. “Fire” and “Love Rollercoaster” are standards. You will enjoy.
Give 'em time :)
Roller skating music. Yassssss

Terence Trent D’Arby “Wishing Well”
Yes!!!!✨
I listen to this song for the first time in years last night. I loved Terence back in the day.
D"arby was just so smooth back in the day.
Yes. AND "Sign your name"
Yes!!!
If you love those overlapping harmonies and individual ad-libs you MUST listen to Jodeci. "I'm Still Waiting," "Come Talk to Me," "Stay," "Forever My Lady." I think the song "I'm Still Waiting" shows this the best but they ALL are straight BANGERS in that aspect. Don't sleep on Jodeci, you'll thank me.
RonyiQ liht then up--- Jodeci yes, Johhny Gill yes. Poison--all day yes!
Definitely try Jodeci!
I think they would love “Come and talk to me”. “I’m still waiting” is still my song!

If y'all feelin' this, get on some "Tender Love" by the Force MDs
Baby I surrender!
I requested this after they did Kaci & JoJo. I absolutely adore “Tender Love”!!
WOW! Forgot about this one. Thank you!
Yesssss
Love is house by Force MD’s
Love y'all listen to Johnny Gill or Ralph Tresvant by themselves and BBD "Poison" and anything else by New Edition.
Don't forget about Bobby Brown.
The one in the red is so funny! Everytime he hears a beat that he likes he makes a face and bob his head 😂
music really takes over he can't help it lol
I love his passion
When he said "bring back the groups" I felt that in my soul. This is why I will forever be rocking 90's r&b.
En Vogue.." Given him something he can feel"
I agree...En Vogue..."Giving Him Something He Can Feel"!
Kathleen Lackman ooh, Free Your Mind would be a great one, too.
I suggest listening to the definitive version of "Giving Him Something He Can Feel" by Aretha Franklin. EnVogue did a good remake but Aretha's is pure 🔥.
En Vogue - Don't let go
Another great female group: Brownstone, “If You Love Me.”
Check out Tevin Campbell “Can We Talk?” He was 16 years old when he recorded the song.
That’s a JAM!!
@@rawc44 yes it is!!!
Great suggestion! Man could Tevin sing!
I love this one ❤
❤️
You need to check out “If it isn’t love”...that’s even more legendary New Edition
They also sing “if it isn’t love” that’s a banger
Their faces when Ralph comes in!!! Love it!
New Edition has been around for years (since they were adolescents). The original members were Ronnie Devoe, Bobby Brown, Michael Bivens, Ralph Tresvant and Ricky Bell. When Bobby left and went solo, Johnny Gill came in (he was already a star). The group split again (Bell, Biv, Devoe a.k.a. BBD; Ralph went solo and so did Johnny) and all did very well musically.
One of New Edition's earlier hits was Candy Girl. If you watch it you will see just how long they have been together as a group.
You need to start listening to some Sade, ordinary love and smooth operator are good ones but there are literally dozens of options.
But "Is it A Crime" live is a smash
Also Paradise, love that beat
Smooth Operator by Sade!
Sade is a must!
Maureen was my groove.
Amazing that this group became solo artists Bobby Brown, Johnny Gill and Ralph Tresvant and the awesome group BBD (Bell, Biv, Devoe). Saw Keith Sweat, Johnny Gill and BBD in Buffalo, NY in 91.
Triple threat tour!!!
I wish I could give this comment more than 1 like!
I was there! Seems like an eternity ago but just yesterday at the same time. Classic. That year was a good one for Buffalo concerts. ✌️❤️🎤
When Fred "sings"... That's my favorite part. 😆😆
Let's hear some Johnny Gill, Keith Sweat, Babyface and Brian McKnight.
Welcome to the R&B of the late 80’s/90’s Gentlemen. New Edition was and still is the coldest boy group of the 90’s. FYI, they currently still tour together every couple of years. You need to research all NE songs. They are my favorite group always and forever. True R&B. Their talent is so unmatched that out of the group developed 4 additional artist: Bobby Brown, Ralph Tresvant, Johnny Gill, and BBD(Bell, Biv, Devoe). While doing their own solo/group acts, they would occasionally come back together for a group album or tour. BBD currently tours and performs together. Phenomenal talent. NE Baby for life. 🎤 🎶
The late 80s and 90s r&b paved the way for young bucks...this age of music was fun sexy classy and all about love!! Have fun gentleman!!
This jam is from 1988
KBH27 I’m talking about the type of music. Most people don’t say “80’s R&B”. And they’re still the best of the 90’s boy bands.
Angie S. For sure. I wish I could go back to that time period.
They all came back as a group with Hit Me Off, I believe. Somewhere in the 2000's?
React to Bell Biv Devoe - Poison; and Johnny Gill - Rub You the Right Way, he was singing as a teen and did a duet with Stacey Lattisaw
Yes! BBD - Poison
I was going to mention run you the right way yesterday
+1 for BBD Poison
Yes...BBD Poison. She's Dope is also a good track from them (grab the remix)
BBD Poison
I Can’t Stand the Rain by Missey Elliott. Banger.

Breaks my heart when people haven't heard this song lol, such a classic, and everyone tries to hit that high note. My request: Maxwell, This Womans Work @MTVunplugged 🔥🔥
Maxwell! Yessss!
Yesssss Maxwell Women's Work is such a beautiful song.
Better late than never. It's equivalent to people in my generation (born in the 70s) listening to someone like Otis Redding, Sam Cooke, or The Platters, who had performed years before we were born.

"They don't make music like this no more", so true! One of my fave songs!!!
Another group you could check out is Jagged Edge. "Walked Outta Heaven" and "I Gotta Be" are great songs from this R&B group.
Let's Get Married.
@@AdrianDeVore yes, another great one!
Seeing you giving the proper reaction to Ralph Tresvant entrance really warms my heart. If you youngins can appreciate real R'n'B with real harmonies, then there is still hope ☺

All of these groups took their questions from the Fabulous “Temptations” please listen to “You’re my Everything” or anything by the early hits of the Temptations!! 😊🥰
I thought the same as I watch this!!
You got, Johnny Gill, Bobby Brown, Ralph Tresvant, Ricky Bell, Ronnie Devoe & Michael Bivins from Bell Biv Devoe ....... These were the best years for R & B
These throwbacks make me appreciate 90s fashion.
This is one of their best songs!
These guys can sang!! This was the best time in music, the 80's & 90"s was great for R&B
Yes it was. The concerts were awesome 🙂
Amen to that!!
Back when musicians were actually talented. You should listen to "If It Isn't Love" and "Candy Girl" by them.
I absolutely love this song. They gotta hear If It Isn't Love. Their enthusiasm is so infectious; it's like I'm hearing all these songs for the first time all over again when I watch their videos.
If you were alive in the late 80s you know this song, it was playing in the background everywhere all the time. You guys just made me appreciate it for the first time 😊
