Thanks for this idea bro! I did it to my Gen 8 last night and it makes a huge difference and it also gets rid of the Gen 8 steering by itself in reverse.. it backs up in a straight line now! Awesome free mod!
There it is.. been waiting. Looks good and see no reason why it wouldn't work so long as the material used is stiff enough. Thanks for the time and effort to keep us on the trail.
Just got my gen 8 and noticed a few things about the steering to note..yes the ball ends in the panhard link are sloppy. The traxas ball ends fix this. I also noticed that redcat may have updated the lower panhard link mount to a beefer piece. Non the less it still shifts when steering. Even after using goop to glue it i still found it got sloppy n loose after a few miles even with the weak stock servo. This mod is by far the best bud👌🛠 I also widened the track width +3 mm each side to keep the tires from rubbing the tie rods, which also allowed me to lift the tie rod up with 2.5 mm spacers to make a 'high steer' link that prevents it from hitting the pumpkin at extreme steer angles, and to also help steering geometry as I used a low profile servo horn to match the angle of the panhard bar. With this brace installed I no longer have to always adjust my steering trim every time I run it! Thanks exo👍😁👌🙃 Keep the greasy side down bro
@@ExocagedRC yes for sure the wider track, frt and rear helps with the wide body for stability side hilling. Plus the wheels sit flush with the flares and help the look of the truck alot! 👌I also managed to butcher 🛠up the original spare tire mount to be installed in the hitch receiver to carry my spare.🤔 No holes in body and it's chassis mounted. Got it mounted as close to the back of the body as the original.👍 and no extra weight high up on the body. Awesome channel bud. Your insight has helped alot with this rig and helped me decide to buy a gen 8. I hope to see more vids on it! Keep the greasy side down bro! 🙃
Hi it's one of the most helpful video's repair on redcat gen8 scout2 Axe edition, I've seen on RUclips, thanks again 👍👍😎👌 Kind Regards James From Scotland 🏴 In the UK 🇬🇧 👍
Do you know if the axe edition has a different axle? Where my shock connects to the lower link and axle, mine looks different. The panhard lower mount on the lower link barely has room to connect anything on the front. I'd upload a pic if that was an option! My shock mount is located directly on top of the axle. However, I'm noticing there are 2 shock mount locations, one on top of the axle and the other just behind but a couple mm's lower. Thanks in advance
I'm lost on this one I don't understand the link that you're installing is connected to the front diff cover into the axle where the link comes from the axle to the frame does that link that you're creating help that link that's connected to the frame from wobbling
@@ExocagedRC I just custom my own link like you did but I notice the rod ends on other end of the link has play so I took a Traxxas rod end and used the ball screw from the stock link rod end from the gen and now there's no more play at the other end of the link. They might all need to be changed lol
Its a skidplate. It mounts to the chassis rails using the holes to mount the bumper. Good upgrade as it keeps rocks and sticks from bashing up your steering linkage parts.
Exocaged RC ❤️👊😀 Right on bud. Thank you very muchly. My kids will LOVE their new toy. I’m finishing mine right now to it’s a smaller scale 3 Racing keep. I love that style it suits me.
any thin sheetmetal and you can get scraps from other cuts and just use that, most hardware stores like home depot and lowes should have metal stock or maybe some free cuts you can have.
@@TerraQuestRC 😁LOL!!! just a small dab of goop glue under that part and screw it back on and the glue that comes out from under it wipe around the part with a wet finger to make a bead of glue around it and let dry 24 hours and perfecto!
Redcat should have known better than to use single sheer points for the panhard upper bolt, Specially if using soft plastic.. How hard or expensive would adding a double sheer point could be? Its not like its aluminum SMH..
Hi, a bunch of problems once I started running. Huge amount of inner tire wear. Pulls left, needed to put trim at right 50. I did spend a lot of money on this. Just hoping to not have to change anything on the rig, unless I wanted to mod it. The pulling maybe a bad caster mount
@@rich-lf1bm Inner tire wear is from the front tie rod ends. You can fix this by getting an extended (8mm) hub nut to offset the tires a little more to bring the tires away from the tie rod ends. You can get a cheap set for like 10 bucks on amazon!
@@rich-lf1bm hey rich. One more thing that you can do to prevent inner tire wear is to move the tie rod from the top of the steering knuckles to the bottom of the steering knuckles. It does make the tie rod lower but its a free mod and it also improves the drag link angle and stops a considerable amount of bump steer
Hey man do you sell those skid plates in the front? Even if it said exocage rc on it in fact I'd rather it did. How's about sending me one for the axe? I'll pay ya some cash. Whatever just shoot me a number bro.

As I’m still waiting for electronics, think I’ll fab one of these up for my G8. Preventative intervention. Thanks Exo.👍🏼

LoL yep this is super simple and easy to make

Nice, I have a sheet of stainless steel, going to make a tab for my Gen8 with it! Thanks for the tip!
I like it. Was a little concerned with ya trying to put another piece in that pretty cramped spot down there, but looks good.
Yeah it fit way better than I thought it would
Excellent work. Will help for sure!
Thanks for the DIY,looks Like a manufacturer part👍👍
It should be! LoL thank you
Thanks man i did this too and helped out allot but i put my pan hard bar in front an used the same bolts on there
Very interesting conversation thanks for sharing these kind tips
That amount made for staring work beautiful in mine gen 8

i made mine out of an old plastic transport card. Works okay, will check back with results from the trail.
Same idea did it work or it got loose ??? asap
@@metallbloodxox i used quality plastic apparently. because it has lasted heaps of abuse. i used an old transport card.
How about a brace for rear portal housing/shock mounts. This piece shifts & breaks.
Great video excellent fix great thinking
Awesome vid and info, thanks! That front deflector\skid... That's clean! 3D printed with custom aluminum plate over the front??
Printed with an engraved piece glued on it.
Just found this it works great thanks so much for solving that isue for me
Thank you I am building a gen 8 from scratch well kinda.

Yes I noticed that as well, so yeah changing the link ends is a great thing for this truck.
What does the aluminum plate that says exocaged rc? Under the front bumper what does it go?

Nice ,very cool 😎
Yo man need to know is this a good idea after you did it.
Or did you rip it off a day later. Need to know man pls do tell.
oh man this stays, I made another one for the Predato Comp truck using the Gen8 axles, awesome free mod for these.

what kind of metal did you use how thick where can i get some

Great Tip that's for sharing
That’s killer. Too bad I’m not that savvy yet or have all the tools and parts etc. but something to think about in the future.
Super simple to make
There is so much slop in the suspension from the factory.
hi what kind of sheet aluminum yours looks thick how thick is it can i get a bit at home depot
Big will S. I’d guess 060 or something around 1/16” thick. Yeah Home Depot should have this.
Neat little mod bracket.. if Dad or Mom can't do it Get with Papaw.. LOL ✌️😎 👍 HFLPRCing

I can do the plastic glue on part but you gotta but the metal skid off ebay. ebay.us/DH367f if you buy that, I can make you one and mail it for $5
