@@CGM_Raiden range is good but speed is key in blood-borne it's always good to be speedy and able to close the distance there's a lot of enemies that can just outrange you in some instances I'm not saying the hunters axe is bad as that weapon can actually be pretty goddamn good for early and late game but for beginners an all-around great weapon is the saw cleaver
You can complete the game with all 3 starter weapons but the axe is probably the better choice to start. It makes the Gascoigne fight easier because of the arena and don't forget if you want serrated you can get a Saw Spear for free in the sewers you get the Hunters gear in this video its where the rats are near the madmans knowledge.

Pistol will let you cheese obnoxious enemies and bosses by killing them from a safe range. Just don't expect it to be easy or do all the heavy lifting alone. Shotgun is the stagger champion. Practice and master it on brick giants and you are good for the entire game as a stagger visceral beast. I recommend making more than 1 initial play through (you can use the same character you created and saved) and test both fire arms, the axe, and the cane whip. I would never start with the saw cleaver since you get the saw spear free in the first area.
I was so mad, everyone told me the Blunderbuss was useless garbage, well I was getting fed up against BSB cause he just wouldn't stagger for me, so I went back got the blunderbuss, farmed upgrades to get it to +3 to match my Hunter's pistol and took down BSB in one try.
Just considering the melee weapons. I recommend the axe for people brand new to Soulsborne games. It has a longer range and is reliable with simply very usable speeds. For people who've played Demon Souls or any Dark Souls games, go with the saw since it quickly grants you to ability to get into the differences of combat from DS and BB. It's quick and has a reliable base damage

Huge FROM fan, I think I'm finally going to get into this game today.. only played the first hour or so, but I've played all the other souls game except sekiro
Mistakes made: 1. Picked the axe instead of the saw cleaver. The saw cleaver is objectively the best weapon in bloodborne and its not even close how much more powerful it is compared to every other weapon. 2. Transforming the axe does less damage on r1. However it does give some range for safety. 3. At 2:08 instead of going to the left you should drop off to the right to get molotov cocktails. 4. Missed 3 bloodstone shards that could have been used to make a +1 weapon 5. At 2:46 instead of going down the stairs and risking a death to those enemies you can instead continue to the left and break the boxes and keep going to your left side to unlock the shortcut. 6. Instead of going straight for the armor pieces you should have unlocked the shortcut to avoid having to go through a long walk back in case you die.
The hunters axe is probably 2nd best str weapon in the whole game! It's a beast with the spin attack! See why some call spin to win but hey its in the game, use it.
Honestly it's kinda a bore that they offer the hunters axe and saw cleaver so early, genuinely great weapons that match up to end game DLC weapons. I understand the creator intentionally designed the game in a artistic decision so that every weapon can carry you through the game and be viable. But honestly I prefer loot where it genuinely feels like im upgrading my character.
You can skip the patrol after the fountain plaza with the brick troll by smashing the boxes next to the house on the side you came from (next to the house with the laughing ladies). That'll drop you down near the dog cages and you can cut through the dark house to get on top of the bridge. Downside is that there's now 2 werewolves in your way, but you can pull them with a pebble to the face, run back to the dark house and cheese them in the doorway with the transformed axe. Might be less fuss for some people. Still gotta go through the sewer section, though, and, before leveling, those beastmen can be rough if they get a hit in.

Instead of doing all of that i like to die to the wolf grab the saw cleaver (best starter weapon in my opinion cause the dps is just something else) and the pistol and go through the game untill u get the ludwigs holy blade (best weapon in the game) and slay everything in ur way

Accidentally discovered this and I’m sure you’ve played through the game by now but I accidentally found out if you dodge behind it than power attack you ran stagger it then reposte it and it dies
Fromsoftware did the same shit with dark souls 2, the hunter outfit isn’t there any more, unless it’s random they legit take shit out they find In guides like this
u cant say a weapon is "the best" especially when it isnt true. For example all speedrunners and players who do 0 hit challenges etcetera use the saw cleaver

I have played Dark Souls 1 and 3 and i really like doing strength builds and the axe is really nice to use and lasted me almost end game
