I was never taught about being financially literate by parents. I naturally save and am learning to spend my money more. It always surprised me people who impulsively buy items without thinking of the consequences. On big purchases I always put in a lot of research and think of the value of the item vs waiting a bit longer for a better opportunity or another option. Anyone who has ever earned and bought anything knows the value of money and it’s not good to put all the blame on “oh no one taught me this so it’s not my fault how my situation is”. You blew my mind w/ budgeting biweekly. Literally blew my mind. I am always guessing as to what I’ll be making for the month because my jobs are VERY inconsistent like I could make $8k or $1500 it’s hard to ever tell but I obviously know what I made the PREVIOUS 2 weeks so budgeting based on what I made then is what I’ll be doing from now on! Wish I thought of this sooner it seems so obvious now
We keep a buffer of 2000 in our checking account because of our rent. It’s 1545 and I see this as staying one month ahead on rent. And it gives me peace of mind knowing that if anything were to happen we at least have our rent covered. My boyfriend is a blue collar worker so with the rainy season, this makes sense for us. We live in California and the cost of living is so high😭
I love doing my budget. My favorite part is putting money into sinking funds so when I want to get art supplies or books or something I don't have to worry about it messing up my budget. Also highly recommend automating your standard base savings amount to get moved on pay day. That way you minimum savings is taken care of and you don't have to worry about forgetting to move it, then if you end up with extra you can add it. Personally at the end of every month I take any "extra" money i didn't spend and toss it in savings, sometimes that is $5 sometimes $100, then I "start fresh" each month. Great video!
My friends/family think im crazy for budgeting as hard as I do, but it was the only way to get myself to stop self-destructing haha. I love seeing how other people budget.
Same, finance is such a personal subject to me, I thought opening up to my family about my finances would be like eye-opening to them but all I get is everyone thinking I’m extreme. I haven’t been on top of my finances anymore and I definitely don’t like talking to my family about it, but it’s still important to me
Shout-out to all the failed budgeters and ambitious ones trying to get it together like failed weight loss attempts. If I had a dollar saved for all my failed spreadsheets I wouldn't have to worry so much about budgeting anymore 🥂
Yes when I was budgeting I felt so good about money and looked forward to working for it. But I fell off. And I know it’s all I’m missing to get back on track. Just haven’t been disciplined to start back.
God I haven’t even graduated high school and I’m already worrying about this. I’m planning on university and I really don’t want to accumulate too much debt, so this is really helpful for when the time comes.
Why not go to a community college first then transfer. Save yourself the time and money. I know a college experience may be important for some but graduating with no debt is better. Just my opinion :)

Watching this now at 22 (almost 23) with little to no knowledge on budgeting, besides "hey! don't spend more than you're earning!" And honestly sometimes I haven't even adhered to that (terrible and unsustainable, I know)!! This has made me feel infinite amounts of shame, stress, and confusion since financial situations are so personal and such a "taboo" subject to talk or ask about, even with friends. I have been watching videos like this one, so that I can be financially secure and not feel stressed. Although I know I’ll have a long way to go, the way I budget now isn’t doing me any good and I’d like to just be able to feel good when things are getting a little hectic. The issue is that I really crave that spike of dopamine when I go shopping even though I’ll regret it later. I’m not one for new year resolutions. I wanna tackle my problems with money right now. While I have the strive too.
I'm about to go off to college and have been trying to find some ideas on what my budget layout should be and I really love this!! I think It'll be awesome for managing loans and my car payments and everything!!
Thank you for making this video! I have been struggling with budgeting and I’m trying to really be hard on myself about it because I’m tired of being late on payments
A simple way to make sure you don’t miss a payment; pay all your monthly bills on the last payday of the month. Then accrue for them throughout the following month. Yes, it takes some doing to be able to do every bill in this manner but just take one at a time and pay it early. Hope that made sense
Thabk you so much Carter! I'm 25 now and all of a sudden realize that I really need to start budgeting. I am really excited to do this. Thank you so much!!! ❤
Im watchin nothing but budgeting videos because I’m starting new job after not working in so long, makin the most money I ever have and I want to finally be financially stable secure and independent.
Appreciate you sharing the questions you ask yourself while budgetting. Asking those prompts really work for me while I do the work itself. It is a very effective and mindful approach. Thank you!
I haven’t even finished the video and I already subscribed because you are so freaking relatable!! I rarely find budgeting videos of people who work a 9-5 but make less than 6 figures. I have a side hustle as well and plan to get into RUclips as well.
Hey Carter! I am so thankful the RUclips Algorithm added your channel to my home page - I am also a 20 something living in Ottawa and we have so much in common! I thought I was the only one who was really into personal finance! Thanks for sharing these types of videos! Super awesome to have watch a local RUclipsr! I have budgetting for the month but realizing I function in two week intervals due to my pay period as well - never thought to budget biweekly! Going to start this!
Well I didn't go as far into detail as you did for your budget but I really appreciate your organization skills. I decided to go ahead and use a bit of your techniques to add on to my existing system I already had for myself and I'm excited to see how it works out.
Thanks for sharing this! I too love pay day! I have a budget that I set up for the whole year. Yes each bi weekly can change but what’s great is I try to set aside certain amount for when something comes up (example registration renewal ) so I don’t need to take out from my savings. I also budget how much I can spend each day without going above the budget! It’s been awesome and I’ve been able to save so much!
I’m almost 30 and was literally born into the worst financially practices with my family, I’m tired of it, I’m more than capable to be financially free and comfortable, the change is within myself !!!!
Good video. RUclips recommended. I agree with you that I don’t like having a lot of money in my checking account because I will usually end up spending it. Thank you for the tips!!
Thank you so much for your advice and spreadsheet. I've been working on mine since xmas and was getting a little discouraged because working with excel can be hard for a beginner. I'm using your spreadsheet going forward and you've gained a new supporter thank you again! many blessings xo

It's awesome you are now 25 and still doing this! You're still so young! You can live debt-free, own your own car and home, etc. Great spreadsheet! Been doing mine on Google Sheets and this looks much better.
This needs to be a trend J don’t really have any bills but I do want to have 5k saved by the end of this semester. I have no money management skills and I need to grow.
my budget is as follows: direct deposit my savings every week, direct deposit my 401k and ROTH every week. use the remaining money for bills, and living expenses, and have fun. I just automatically deposit my savings every week, that way i don't need to budget. work smarter not harder.
Hi. Enjoyed your video. I use a budget system. I do a monthly budget and review it weekly before I get paid weekly on Fridays. It's helpful for me to do a budget to track what's coming in and what's going out so I know what I can save and what's for spending 💫

I need this bc as soon as a paycheck hits I go so feral and I don’t want to do that anymore fr. So hopefully starting to budget now at 21 will help when I’m older
Very nice! I love budgeting and it’s fun to see how other people do it... mine is different because I get paid twice a month so the amount each time varies. It’s so important to use the minimum expected paycheck to create your budget!

I love this and love how transparent you are! I relate to this technique so much!
So glad!
Thank you for making this video! I have been struggling with budgeting and I’m trying to really be hard on myself about it because I’m tired of being late on payments
You got this!
Thank you!
Yes I found the prompts really helpful and transformative when budgetting🙌🏻 Super important to self reflect with finances!
I haven’t even finished the video and I already subscribed because you are so freaking relatable!! I rarely find budgeting videos of people who work a 9-5 but make less than 6 figures. I have a side hustle as well and plan to get into RUclips as well.
I took a big pay cut as well and just like you, am WAY more happy mentally and emotionally so good for you!
Omg you are so kind wow thank you so much for subscribing!!
Glad it was helpful!
I thoroughly enjoyed this walk-through, looking for ways to elevate my financial and budgeting routine every month. Thank you!
You are so welcome!
Great video. Paycheck budgeting works really well for me; I really liked the idea of including events/holidays as a part of your review.
Yes it's a great way to reflect & make sure you don't have to spend alot of spontaneous money!
Love that this video is not all voiceover. I was on budgeting but lost interest n motivation but I’m jumping back In . New sub 👍🏻
❤️❤️
Hey new subscriber here. Subscribed because of your honesty in showing us the YT income. Not like others where they put up 30 minutes blabber without even telling the incomes 🙏🏻
I appreciate this video so much! I have been wanting to be more disciplined with my money and this is definitely helpful. Thank you!
You're so welcome!!
The only issue with this video...WHERE IS THE COASTER??! 🤣
Budgets are the key to financial freedom
YUP🙌🏻
I started my own business and now Im planning on in a role especially with my finances and budgeting my life.
Thank you so much! You simplified something that always seems so complex. I appreciate you taking the time to make this video.
🥰🥰🥰
This video is greatly appreciated. It's helpful and reminds me to stay organized and take responsibility for my expenses. Thank you.
Really appreciating the transparency in this informative video
Thank you so much for this. I’m clueless when it comes to this, and I want to get better. Thank you!
It's awesome you are now 25 and still doing this! You're still so young! You can live debt-free, own your own car and home, etc. Great spreadsheet! Been doing mine on Google Sheets and this looks much better.
Thank you so much!!
This needs to be a trend J don’t really have any bills but I do want to have 5k saved by the end of this semester. I have no money management skills and I need to grow.
You got this!!
There’s lots of budget videos on RUclips! I always look for more to watch since I love them
❤️💸
This is actually good I save a certain amount but I don't budget much if that makes sense need to look into doing this soon😁
That totally makes sense!! New year is a great chance to start fresh!
I loved your video and the way you go back and analyze your budget. I might start doing a spreadsheet as well as the every dollar app.
my budget is as follows: direct deposit my savings every week, direct deposit my 401k and ROTH every week. use the remaining money for bills, and living expenses, and have fun.
Hi, thank you sooo much for making this video. Gives me new ideas and tips to better manage my finances and that’s something that I’ve been struggling for some time now, after watching your video it’s helped me gain some celerity and see myself using some of your strategies but also take a step back to breath.
I need this bc as soon as a paycheck hits I go so feral and I don’t want to do that anymore fr. So hopefully starting to budget now at 21 will help when I’m older
Payday routine is so nice its makes fun and i love to wait for that day
Needed this! I’m moving into my apartment next month and I’m just being so crazy about bills so this definitely helped!! Haha
With all respect... you're freaking heck smart!
That's amazing!
Canadians are the best RUclipsrs
I use the Dave Ramsey app, Every Dollar, it’s great. I used to keep a spreadsheet, but no more. I do jot down numbers in my planner.
Very nice! I love budgeting and it’s fun to see how other people do it... mine is different because I get paid twice a month so the amount each time varies. It’s so important to use the minimum expected paycheck to create your budget!
I totally agree!
Thank you so much for this informative video. This is the first time i've actually been able to understand and implement budget strategies tht work for me.
THANK YOU FOR THIS VIDEO! Lately I’ve been getting more into budgeting and managing my finances and this just helped me handle them so much better! This video rocked, thank you for sharing!🔥🔥🔥
Aw thank you so much for commenting, it makes my day!!!
Hello Carter. Excellent video. Your organizational and budgeting skills are outstanding.

Can I just say. I LOVE they way your sheet is set up!!!!!.... I've been struggling with ADHD adnd I just couldn't structure mines properly.
Less than 5 minutes into this video and already subscribed :) I also use a mix of everydollar and google sheets to budget.
TWINS!!
This is a great video. This is exactly how I do my budgeting. Love it!
So glad!
There are so many good ideas in this video. I like the idea of totaling the bills and having them come from another account!! I couldn't access the link but I will make my own based on how you did yours. Love this :)
That glass of coffee ☕ looks delicious.
This video really helped me. Thanks so much for sharing! Also really appreciate your transparency.
I always look forward to payday and budgeting money too!
Glad I'm not alone❤️
Thanks for the video! I saw it on my feed. I've been trying to learn how to save, and invest while in college! :)

Thank you for the great video. I will definitely check out your budget spreadsheet.
I use the cash method enveloppe to save. I have a spreadsheet too but I withdraw money at the bank and put in enveloppes.
Whatever works for you! I prefer not to use cash as we use a credit card for all our expenses & from that are allowed to travel for free with points! But whatever works for you🙌🏻💸
Can you share that spreadsheet? looks amazing, I loved the content of this vid, It fits with the actual reality for the majority of people. Good advices. Thanks Carter. Best.
Hi there! Is videos a few years old now and I accidentally deleted the spreadsheet last year and haven't been able to recover it! Feel free to replicate it or you can check out my newer budget videos and see the new spreadsheet that I'm using!
Hi Carter, thank you so much for the spreadsheet & video! Very helpful and I am excited to use the spreadsheet!
♥️♥️
HI EVERYONE! I have gotten 100s of emails asking for the budget spreadsheet. It is linked in the video description. Please do not request access to it as it sends me an email. All you have to do is click file >make a copy! Super easy 🤍✨
Thank you. 👍
Can you please post where i could get the book shelf you have on your desk 😍😍😍
Are you able to edit the spreadsheet or it’s just a guide?
Hi Carter! tried accessing the excel file today but got an error that "file unable to access" did you take the doc down?
