what a brilliant episode. james and rich are hilarious, bouncing off each other. its brilliant seeing james laughing along instead of the usual deadpan.
Love him! And always nice to see him in a more casual conversation outside his stage person. Also glad someone finally said it about that movie Passenger.. 40:43
Thanks for this one! I'm not a particularly proud American, but am a proud American James Acaster fan. It was love at first sight after an episode of Mock the Week several years ago. Lots of love to you both from little ol' Knoxville, Tennessee.
At 30 minutes this is what genius looks like. Clearly he's in a huge amount of pain, but he's made that into a comedic event for us. I love James but I dearly care for him and I hope it doesn't end too early
Yeah, you must have been really confident. I mean, it's not like there's any way of taking back that like once it's been hit, and imagine the dire consequences for you if he'd had an off day, and your preemptive like had been undeserved after all.... it doesn't bear thinking about.
I would hide in the footwell of the President's car, appearing just before the shots were fired. Kennedy would bend down to stroke me thus avoiding getting hit.
This was a great one. I love it when guests are comfortable right out of the gate. Also Rich, for what it's worth, I'd watch you on panel shows and other bits and pieces. Admittedly it'd be on RUclips because I don't have a British VPN, but still... ..I think you would be a good QI booking.

Lou Sanders, Joe Thomas, Sian Gibson, Paul Sinha and Iain Stirling. A good mix of comics and comic actors. But I agree Rich really should be on it by now! At least Lou Sanders is going to bring absolute vulgarity and chaos to the proceedings which I cannot wait to see play out
There are dozens of youtube videos on how Passengers could have been a good film, but the easiest solution is literally just to move Act 1. If the audience remains ignorant, yet suspicious of Pratt’s betrayal, it’s such a better story.
44:20 I think many more people lose faith in religion than admit to it. That's understandable. Admitting in, say, middle age, that you've believed all that old biblical guff all your life and have been praying to some all-seeing, all-knowing, all-powerful figment of someone's imagination for years and years is very close to admitting you're an idiot. People don't like doing that. The pope also knows it''s a load of nonsense, but he's got a vested (and vestmented) interest in pretending otherwise.
I wonder if there is some alternate universe podcast in which his teacher of 7 years vents her spleen about how much she hated him, and then decides to do to him what he did to her by mucking about whilst he's trying to work.
I read Deliver Us From Evil by Ravi Zacharias when I was a teenager . It wasn’t a very convincing bit of Christian apologia. It had a bit where a man found pages of a bible that had been used as toilet paper that they considered a miraculous sign from god...
A quick look online shows that there is at least two that feature ventriloquist dummies, however the dummies take the roll of a man in a hetero relationship, so no hand work took place. 52:01
I like the idea of cats having a political agenda. Wish that was a question on Hypothetical. You're a cat, now define your political standpoint and agenda.
Great show n choice of guest rich . Both you n james have that mad way of thinking, way way way out the box. Yet actualy making sense and dead funny of cause i hope to see him on a 3rd time 👍
Richard, I wanted to let you know that I had a dream last night that I was back at school in a sewing class being tortured by a teacher. This didn't happen in real life, but I am sure it was triggered by your question to James!
I don't understand, Richard, everyone has a fetish! Well, most people, with the exception of possibly a few asexuals and others, I'm not an expert by any means. But what makes your adrenaline rush, what gives you a powerful...ending? There must be something that is your get-off go-to...that is your fetish. Fetishes dont have to be obscene or obscure, which is subjective anyway, it's just the thing or things that really, really excite you.
Richard Herring Ahh fair enough. I didn’t want to mention any names but in hindsight, my comment was completely unnecessary anyway and it’s none of my business. Main thing is you’re happy now. 👍 Great podcast as always.
Had to stop halfway to listen to the i pod show .Jim Bob of Carter usm ,great but nowhere to comment. Just hope Jim Bob sees this because need him to know Gilbert Osullivans real name is Ray
James is wonderful. He's hilarious and clearly just a really lovely person. Also, it's great to see him smile as his shows are so deadpan!
I hope he meets a lovely girl. She’ll be lucky too 😊
The Acaster Rule applies here. The Acaster Rule is: see Acaster on the thumbnail, click on the thumbnail

Agreed.
I've literally just realised that I follow this rule entirely!

Cracking banter that......
Just two very funny people comfortably riffing off each other and not trying to outdo one another. A lovely watch, thanks Rich

His story about his teacher is absolutely incredible and quite surreal. Honestly wouldn't know how I'd handle that!
This has to be one of your best Podcasts! Some of James' stories really resonate with me & hopefully taught me a few lessons for the future!
is it just me who recognises this outfit from mock the week (either series 16 or 17)

It's similar to the emergency questions section
I can't move past the sticky label on Richard's sunglasses lens in the intro.
Well, that was a heartbreaking holiday story.
I'm surprised "Sordid Fart Orgy" isn't the name of one of his bands
The difference in size of the mics in their hands reminds me just how tall James Acaster actually is.

@@Dinckelburg the mic in James’ hand is smaller than in Richard’s because James’ hands are bigger.. since he’s much taller.
