Holy shit I love how candid Greg is about his stories. Its great comedy and I think so much of him for how he debases any sort of criticism of the reality of growing up.
When Greg Davies performs it never feels like stand up comedy or even him telling jokes but he makes me laugh way more than most other comedians so it works, weird innit?
Its because it sounds natural because it is. Its just him telling real stories so it just works. Obviously you have to have the personality to make the story also sound funny, which he manages to.
I've just shown my mum one of his "WILTY" episodes last night She's a 62 year old German with reasonably good school+ English (the + being me, forcing her to watch films in English and coming to GB with me) She got most of it right, had problems with Lee Mack (fair enough) but after Greg's "VEGETABLE!" story not only said "that's definitely how Austrians talk" (so..he CAN do impressions ;)) but also said, unprompted "what a great storyteller!" Yup. Has great stories AND knows how to tell 'em
Just finished Greg's show in Hong Kong. Small 300 seater Indian Restaurant. Me and Mrs cried our eyes out with laughter. Got a fleeting chance to meet him at the end and mentioned his appearance above which was met with an amusingly positive response. Support act was Barry Castagnola, who played the crowd brilliantly! Best night out in ages!

My mate got me and my better half tickets, but I don't think it was particularly aggressively promoted. I believe Greg knows one of the comedy promoters here in HK and had agreed to stop over on the way back from Australia to do the final showing of YMB. It was literally 200 (I said 300 originally, but looking back it must have been fewer) of us in a tiny dark restaurant with all the dining tables and chair pushed aside, and Greg about 3 metres away from me. A real honour, to be sure.
