    President Joe Biden met with President Vladimir Putin of Russia in Geneva on June 16. US-Russia “disarmament discussions have been pushed to the back burner. Instead, treaty compliance disputes have dominated bilateral engagements. Meanwhile, each side is rushing to replace and upgrade its bloated nuclear arsenal,” writes Daryl Kimball in Arms Control Today.
    Meanwhile, the U.S. is intensifying technological and economic competition with China and using US-China military tension to justify an increased Pentagon budget. Congress is preparing to pass Sen. Robert Menendez’s Strategic Competition Act of 2021 (S.1169), which constitutes a de facto declaration of a New Cold War with the People’s Republic of China. It would codify a comprehensive, and systematic strategic competition with China as the organizing principle for U.S. domestic, foreign, and defense policies, and possibly for other nations as well.
    For analysis of these developments, we were joined by Colonel Lawrence Wilkerson. He was interviewed by MAPA’s assistant director, Brian Garvey.
    Col. Lawrence Wilkerson is a distinguished professor of government and public policy at the College of William and Mary and was Chief of Staff to Secretary of State Colin Powell from 2002 to 2005. He was the Keynote Speaker at Massachusetts Peace Action’s annual meeting in March 2019. Wilkerson is a critic of the US invasion of Iraq, the ongoing War on Terror now in its 18th year and the turn to a new nuclear arms race. He asserts the U.S. is not a democracy but a war state that forces its will on the global community, and in 2020 worked on bipartisan projects to prepare for the possibility that a defeated Donald Trump would refuse to leave office.

    Watching this two years later, everything he said made perfect sense, but I doubt even he anticipated just how far the U.S. would be willing to go toward the dark side. Here is an echo from the past,
      [On the Jews, a prophesy?]
      “All of the other people have committed crimes, the Jews are the only ones who have boasted about committing them. They are, all of them, born with raging fanaticism in their hearts, just as the Bretons and the Germans are born with blond hair. I would not be in the least bit surprised if these people would not some day become deadly to the human race.”
      ~François-Marie Arouet, Voltaire
      Lettres de Memmius a Cicéron (1771)
      “The Jewish nation dares to display an irreconcilable hatred toward all nations, and revolts against all masters; always superstitious, always greedy for the well-being enjoyed by others, always barbarous - cringing in misfortune and insolent in prosperity.”
      ~Essai sur les Moeurs et l'Esprit des Nations (1753), Introduction, XLII: Des Juifs depuis Saül
      I personally do not regard all Jews as being this way, there are plenty of them who have contributed to the advancement of humanity, and are open and liberal. But then, alas, the others....
      The Zionist movement started not that many decades after the death of Voltaire.

    Wilkerson's assessment is correct. Israel is and has been a strategic, economic, and moral liability from Day One.
    The Joint Chiefs of Staff were right when they told Truman in October 1947 that U.S. support for partitioning Palestine would be a grave error and an immense hindrance to U.S. influence and effective policy in the Near and Middle East. And so it has proved.
    Truman's decision to extend formal U.S. recognition to Israel in May 1948 was an absolute disaster for the U.S. and the wider Western world.

    • @jameshepburn4631
      @jameshepburn4631 8 дней назад

      On the contrary it’s been a big advantage for the U.S.. Israel has provided otherwise unobtainable captured Russian weapons, tanks, jets, electronics, and other equipment through the years from which we have been able to learn the capabilities of potential enemy forces and what they’re up to. Many scientific, technical, and medical treatments & techniques have come from Israel. Recent example is computerized body suits restoring paralyzed veterans’ ability to use limbs & hands, and walk! Israeli scientists developed the ‘Iron Dome’ system anti-missile technology that both the U.S. and Israel use. The two allies are now collaborating in development of an even more advanced generation anti-missile system. Another advantage for the U. S.military is to observe successful strategy & tactics in real combat conditions. I can’t imagine Israel botching an operation or doing anything so poorly carried out as the U.S. pullout from Afghanistan. And unlike Korea and Vietnam, ally Israel has never asked for American servicemen to put their lives at risk in combat for them.

    • @asmodeus0454
      @asmodeus0454 7 дней назад

      These minor, indeed, trifling "advantages" that have come from the U.S.-Israeli "alliance" pale in comparison to and are dwarfed by the billions and billions of dollars of civil and military aid the U.S. has poured into Israel, and continues to pour into Israel, and the immense diplomatic and political protection afforded to Israel by the U.S. at the expense of U.S. influence and policy in the Near and Middle East. The U.S. "alliance" with Israel is far more to the advantage of Israel than it is to the U.S.
      Israel even engaged in an open act of war against the United States when it launched air and naval attacks against the U.S.S. _Liberty_ during the Six-Day War in June 1967 and got away with those attacks practically scot-free. What a great "ally"!
      In the last analysis, Israel is no-one's ally but Israel's. And to think otherwise is to be incredibly naive. The Joint Chiefs of Staff's assessment in October 1947 was correct and it remains correct in May 2024. And the only reason that the U.S. has given its support to Israel over the decades since Israel's foundation is the immense influence the Israel Lobby has exerted on the U.S. Congress and the U.S. political process in that time. American politicians are bought and sold by the Israelis and their agents.

    The United States should end military aid to Israel.
    1. Military Aid to Israel is unnecessary. Israel is a very prosperous country and more than capable of paying for it's own military.
    2.Military aid to Israel is a security risk to the United States. Israel has been selling American developed military technology to China for more than a decade. These sales have been instrumental in the modernization of China's military.
    3.Military aid to Israel is a diplomatic liability,
    4, Military aid to Israel is illegal under American law. Israel's human rights violations disqualifies Israel from receiving military aid under the Leahy law and Israel's having nuclear weapons while refusing to allow inspections or sign the nuclear nonproliferation treaty makes aid to Israel illegal under the Symington Amendment.

      You obviously don't read to say that. 1. The so-called Arabs never invaded until word of the massacres and expulsions were happening 2. They didn't want to get involved b/c they weren't prepared and rearranging themselves post colonialism 3. They were outnumbered, didn't have the artilary, etc. They were just trying to help and respond to the expulsions and massacres happening next door! Village by village the Irgun and Hagganah plundered inhabitants-and nobody questions that anymore! It's surprising you're bringing up this "war" b/c it's really a moot point: if they wanted to invade they would've in 1947, when word of the first expulsions were happening. Please read, then post next time.

That’s why Hitler went there and of course no one wants 6-10 million foreigners in their land. Not all Jews are indigenous to the land, the original Jews are the Arabs today not the white European people. I saw white IDF girls putting sun screens to prevent sun burn and yet you are telling me all Jews are indigenous to the land? lol Jewish is a religion. The original people from the tribe are the Arabs in the region.
      You guys fell for the European antisemitism. they created a state for Jews so they can kick most of the Jews outside of Europe like they have always wanted to. Now Israel exists, so you either live peacefully and let Palestinians have their own state, or you’ll always face war. And you should end your ethnic state.
