That view from Gifu Castle is something else. I also really like the setup of those river boats. It looks so relaxing to have dinner by the water - in such a communal fashion. Shizuka and team - great job!
I stayed in Gifu when I visited Japan in November 2023. It was lovely. I'm currently finalizing the plans for my next visit during Spring 2025 and Gifu is most definitely on my list of places to visit. Actually, most of my 5 week visit will be all around Chūbu; it's such a nice change of pace compared to the "big" cities.
I was in Gifu city 2 years ago. Shirakawago was my highlight during traveling in Gifu perfecture. Using onsen to see the Gifu castle at night, under the moonlight, was very cool……
It probably says something about my life, but I am incredibly happy when I see you in these videos. Like a beloved drinking friend goes out with you on a bar crawl.
If I were running Japan by Food head honchos, I would brand on Shizuka Anderson. Shizuka effortlessly bridges the East/West cultures delivering in depth and entertaining vlogs. Her personality is very likable and relatable.
Great tips and interesting trip, I go to Gifu sporadically because my family lives there, it would be interesting to see the places you recommended. About the bicycle dealer, it's another very interesting thing, because here in Japan there aren't these types of shops, so it's very rare to see them. There is a place that I went to and I recommend it to you, it is Satoyama Park, there you can be amazed by beautiful landscapes, animals, ride a go-kart, onsen and foot onsen, go down the zip line too and there are good restaurants. Maybe a great place for dates 💕
Geez... I couldn't find myself a hotel in Gifu. Looks like I totally can die happily in this town. Wow, I also thought this kind of original fishing only exists in China. Thank you so much for the info. I am excited to watch more!
Thanks again Shizuka! Another wonderful video! That was so interesting to see the fishing and how it was done in the past. It amazes me how humans lived in the past and get a glimpse of what they did to survive. Amazing!! This is another experience I would love to try! Also, those squirrels. So cute and I want to feed them now. Great job again and I can't wait to visit Japan next year so I can enjoy all these wonderful foods and experiences your beautiful country has to offer.
If By Food wants to do a series showing off lesser-known places in Japan, I would love to see a video about Fukui prefecture. Specifically Fukui city, Katsuyama and Ono. There is so much culture and food there, including a type of crab that's only available seasonally, several impressive castles and temples, and one of the best dinosaur museums in the world.
What an amazing trip. I truly must set time to visit Gifu City. It's a great day adventure to experience! Question: Is this an over night stay to do all events shown or can it be done in one full day? Thank you all for the video!
Those squirrels were huge. In the UK we have the grey which looks similar. Introduced from America I think. The reds are cuter but a harder to find now as the greys dominate and in fact cannot co-exist.
Shizukas personality is so contagious it keeps you watching and wanting more ps we need Sonny to make a special guest appearance on this channel plz
Amazing work by the camera and editing crew. Views look FANTASTIC!!!
YOU ARE MY FAVORITE JAPAN GUIDE!
my only

love it when Japanese restaurants have those Noren curtains, good job walking up the stairs, the boat ride looks fun

Gifu is so nice. I've been living here for +15 years and I think the only place I'd move over Gifu would be Kyushu.
I just came back from Japan and already wanna go back. Theres so much to see and do.
Perfect timing! Headed to Gifu in a few days. Thanks for the recommendations 🎉
Hope the team is well. Great stuff as always. Give Shi a beer!

Would love to go back to Japan in autumn and visit Kawaramachi, I'd like to try the fermented fish too to see if I like it or not.
OMS you’re back!😊
