Thank you so much, I really needed this information cuz I'm really new to the whole making money out of art thing. I'll totally look more into these sites and try selling some of my art!
This video was fab as - Thankyou for you advice and help, I am already on some of these but I am gonna look back at them and try out other places also..- I am going to also share your video on my youtube community also..
Hello Brian, also got directed via reddit. Some great tips and advice here on where to sell art. I had to really crank my speakers up to hear what you were saying though, are you using any sort of microphone? Would be great if it was a bit louder. Keep up the good work though.
Hi Gareth, thanks for the comment. I know I speak quietly but I don't have any problem hearing it on my computer... I do use a microphone as well. I'll make sure to double check audio for future videos though. Thanks for the heads up!
I just started on Threadless and I am already frustrated how slow the downloading process is XD oh well it wasn´t just my laptop then being slow. Great video. I´ll check some of these sites. I have sold a few pieces on Saatchi and ArtPal. Slow process but can be done.
I found Threadless to be super slow and frustrating once I really gave it a try. So to be honest, I haven't been on it in months and don't think I'll ever go back. Good to know about Saatchi and ArtPal! Thanks for watching and commenting! Best of luck to you!
Overall, I would say yes. I'll be honest with you, I don't advertise my stores on any of these websites and the one that does the best is my Etsy shop. Etsy does their own advertising that I think does pretty well. I really just advertise my personal website instead.
Thanks for the useful video. Question, how do you take good quality pictures of your artwork? Do you use a DSLR? and what techniques do you use to take the photo?
Thanks for watching! I use a variety of things actually. If the artwork is small enough, I use my scanner. Then if it is too large for my scanner (anything bigger than 11x14) I will use a camera. If I am able to visit my parents at the time, I will use my Dad's camera as he has a really nice DSLR, if not I will honestly just use my cell phone. I take the photos in natural light and use a tripod and an easel to make sure the photo is steady and the artwork is level. From the photos that I take with my cell phone, I can make prints that are 16x20 that are great quality. When I use my Dad's DSLR, I can make high quality prints up to 24x36.
I liked this video and saw your ArtPal video too which was excellent. Have you tried Art Storefronts and what are your thoughts? The ArtPal looked interesting
Hi, thanks a lot, it was a great video! Which ones of these do you think would work for limited edition prints priced about 300-600pounds each? Thanks!
Hi Patricia. I use them to analyze image sizes to know what print sizes are good, but from what I've seen, their base prices for products are quite high compared to other websites!
Hi Maggie. Etsy doesn't directly do print-on-demand. However, you can use the "Etsy Integrations" and integrate Printful into your Etsy shop to do print-on-demand for you. I haven't ever used this function but I know it is a possibility. There may be other integrations other than Printful that allow direct print-on-demand to your shop. I hope that helps!
Thanks for the comment. Most of them are worldwide. You can sell wherever you are from. And for your second question, it depends on the site. Most allow the selling of originals. Some are just prints. However, many of them are print-on-demand which means you don't make and ship the print yourself, they do everything for you. Each site is just a little different you will need to look at each of them specifically for your questions. I do talk about this in the video.
Good job--I got here by a ref to you on Reddit "artists lounge". Your soft-spokenness is really very appealing but--might I suggest that you project a bit more forcefully in speaking?
I'm actually kinda homeless So I cannot pay ANY kind of monthly fees right off! HOW Can I sell my artwork to make money so I can get off the streets and get my life back on tract? Plzzzzz Any info would be appreciated Thank you
Start with companies that are free like Redbubble, Society6, etc. So you don't have to pay a listing fee. That would be my first suggestion! From there, keep on creating!
I know I have sold some art pieces because they were on different websites. It has allowed my work to be seen by more people. However, it does take a lot of time and some sites (as I said in the video) have been more worth it than others.
Haha I've had a few people say that but I have no issues and the majority say there isn't a problem! I may just upload a new version soon anyway with really high volume to appease everyone.
I have sold a couple pieces there. To my experience, it works best if you slowly upload your works. Don´t chuck them all at once. That is the best way to be seen. You can also buy promotions that put your artworks to the front page. It´s like 1 dollar per piece so it´s pretty cheap but uploading consistently is the way to go there.

Thanks for all the information. Do you need to spend a lot of time on social media to advertise your stores on these website you mentioned?

All great advice Brian!
Thank you, Joni!
Artfinder and Artmajeur are asking for a picture of my ID, is this ok to do, should I do it?
These are reputable websites and aren't trying to steal information. However, I would do what you are most comfortable with.

Do Etsy, do Print on Demand, or do you mail your own prints out to the customer? Thanks Brian

You're welcome. Thanks for watching.
Ebay? I heard of some pretty successful artists starting there.
I have heard of some artists finding some success on Ebay as well. I have yet to try it myself but it could be worth a go!

Thanks Scott! I have always been told I'm very soft spoken. Something I'm trying to find a balance with when making videos!
Hi Brian, thanks for this video. Maybe I try another site sooner since I already have my fine art America account.
Thanks again...

Do you think it is a good idea to upload your art to so many different places? Do you think it makes a difference in the amount you sell?
I know I have sold some art pieces because they were on different websites. It has allowed my work to be seen by more people. However, it does take a lot of time and some sites (as I said in the video) have been more worth it than others.
can I sell reproduced work of art on artpal?
If it's reproducing your own work, definitely. If it is reproducing other artists work that are living or under copyright, definitely not.
@@BrianSloanArtist : thanks, i will follow it as a rule.

Yes, that has kind of complicated things.
I put mine out with the rubbish. It’s always gone but the takers are slow payers.
Haha, agreed.
thumbs down - you should NOT be promoting sites that take 40% from artists ! period !
