Thank you so much for this information. As an artist, I am trying to find all possible ways and opportunities to sell my art and it is not easy when you are unknown. But I keep on creating as I love it so much.
I enjoy creating but I guess no one likes it. I just love when they sell if someone loves it as much as I enjoy creating then its a win win. Thankyou for this video. What a find when one can truly do their labor of love for a living as you don't work a day in your life when you find it.
Definitely make sure your art is relatable and people can understand it. I knew a woman who was homeless and did paintings and I would say she was good. But her paintings would be of the sun, stars and really anything nature but she would do it in such a way, you couldn't tell what it was that she painted. I guess she was going for the abstract type of work but it wasn't very good abstract. And I felt bad for her because she was trying to get off the street and she'd only charge $20, had over 1k fb friends but wasn't really selling. I'd say of the 50 paintings she might sell one or two. I think I saw one or two that I liked but didn't have the money to buy but I was happy when she did get a buyer. Anyway, wherever she is, I hope things have gotten much better for her.
I have always struggled with that "niche down" advice. So, i should stop myself from creating art that is extremely different from my "style" just because there needs to be a brand consistency? I don't want to end up being a Murakami or a Kinkade slaved by a style over money. How many gorgeous art pieces die or never get born just to niche down? What if Da Vinci niche down instead of creating everything his mind gave him. Yes i understand the world works that way, yes i wont change the world or the system, but niching down is like mutilating 3/4 of ones body. Should i have fake identities and post in secret in different accounts the different styles and art themes i do? Should i become 3 or 5 different artists when im only one just to make it easy for me to sell?
I fully understand your thoughts. Its the same thing, every artist, painters, musicians and others, have to face. Me too! Do you create in a special way, just because you know, that will sell best? Or do you create the way, you need to create, because this is you?. And you want to be true to yourself. But on the other hand, you also need money...... So what to do? As far as i am concerned, i will follow my way to create, but still looking out, how to bring it to people. But without compromise to the kind of art i need to create to be in peace with myself. And if there are no people to be find? Doesnt matter!
Sadly curators rule the market. The price tag and size is all that matters now. What curators recommend is what the buyers look at and the former have to show results with money bags. This is no different from what the elite Salons did to the Masters over the centuries but they dared to make art that they wanted to make. That made the difference.
You are definitely a person to follow. Thank you. You give the basic direction for us to follow in order to have a lucrative business. So, here we go...
Thank you Martha. I am interested in this. I work as a guitar teacher and decided to do that twenty years ago and am still doing it. Determination is the key to success in anything you do.
This was valuable information. Detaching from your work is crucial to selling work. I think it is also good to pretend to be a person who wants to buy your work and think of the steps you would have to go through to purchase it.
Rarely an artist will not have confidence about their work if it's something they did for a long time. Are we talking about artists trying out artwork for a few weeks ? About the price and value, if you use artist platforms they have an option to use the "make price offer" option. An artist can accept or decline. If anyone thinks the original piece is too expensive then what are reproduction prints for ? You can buy prints in different sizes and they can even come with a frame. But if someone INSISTS on having the original then they are getting exclusivity and have to pay for the exclusivity not just for the artwork itself.
Seems the classes and workshops you mentioned have the greatest answer to your title. Why not simple sell those rather than promote a misleading RUclips video name?
I took some of mine to a dealer years ago to see how much I should charge. He told me I could get £600.00 for them. He was not ex art school so he did not have clue, he only knew the market. It takes about two weeks to complete a job and £600.00 a time is not worth the effort for gallery quality work finish.
Art 101. I could ask why the choice of that number and maybe get a silly story, but it comes from tangent .1 from the cosine algorithms they give us at art school and we keep to ourselves because it makes us feel so much smarter than every one else.

Is it fine to sell my copies if I don't want to let go of my art?
I’d strongly advise against this 👍
Fantastic ! Thank you. ❤

Start with stickers, the goal is to learn how to sell. Go to a park.
