    Thank you for another terrific video, Sensei Vickerman. I find these mini-classes to be a helpful companion to my Wado Ryu training here in the Dallas, Texas area. Wa-No-Michi

    Hi Simon, I love watching these videos. Is this your Sensei? Who was his teacher/Sensei? Many thanks for the uploads! Cheers

      Hello C_L_, we are really pleased to hear you are enjoying the videos. This is Sensei Roger Vickerman who is a 6th Dan Renshi in the Wado Academy. Sensei Vickerman is not my original teacher in Wado Ryu, but he is always open to students that want to learn and practice Wado at the highest level, and these courses are open to Karate-ka of all styles of Karate. My original Wado Ryu Sensei was Eugene Codrington 8th Dan, and both Sensei Vickerman and Sensei Codrington were students of Takamizawa Sensei (Toru) at the famous Temple Dojo in Digbeth Birmingham. Later Sensei Vickerman has been under the guidance of Sensei Shiomitsu Hanshi (9th Dan) of the Wado Academy. I actually train now in a different style of Karate, Shinkido with Sensei Bruce Payne, but I love going back and continuing my learning and journey with these amazing instructors.

    Whereabouts is this club based? I'm a Wado student and if it were possible (post covid) I'd love to come and train.

      @jack heritage we are based in the West Midlands and you are always welcome to join us. In more normal times we do monthly 2 hour advanced sessions on a Saturday morning, which is where most of these videos have been filmed. When these restart I will publish the course dates on our websites and let you know.

      @@WadoRyuBenkyo thank you, would I be okay to turn up or is it mainly just in-club?

      @jack heritage when we restart the courses, you can just let us know you are coming. Places can be limited but as long as we know you are on the way it should never be a problem. These courses are recommended for 1st Kyu and above, but if you are a keen student we are always happy for people to come and practice, learn and enjoy themselves.

      @@WadoRyuBenkyo awesome Well I’m a 3rd Dan by my clubs standards but we don’t practice bunkai as a priority so my knowledge is limited. That’s why I’m interested in these kind of courses

      @Jack Heritage also have a look at the June update video, we will be filming some new content in July, and we have some exciting ideas; but always open to suggestions if there is something you would like to see us cover on the channel.

    Bunkai or Kaisetsu? However, nice video.

    • @WadoRyuBenkyo
      @WadoRyuBenkyo  4 года назад +1

      Good point, I think Bunkai is now the more universally used term by all Karate Ryu and hopefully searching for Bunkai may lead them to this video, but in Wado Ryu we should probably use Kaisetsu. Especially as the original applications of the kata has little meaning to the application in Wado. Thanks for highlighting :)

      @@WadoRyuBenkyo Many thanks for the answer. I think Sensei Roger would agree with the term Kaisetsu. Sensei Arthur Meek and Sensei Peter Hill also use the term Kaisetsu.

      I think there is a semantic difference. Bunkai tends to deal with the more "practical" examination of kata, how techniques can be applied. Kaisetsu is more discussion of theory of kata. Subtle, but different.
