It a B&M character trait, I love it. I wonder if Great Bear will make it into my top 5 favs? B&M is my fav manufacturer, I hope this doesn't disappoint.
XscreamThrills same. Not sure if my PA bias is showing but I’ve always preferred it’s unique ride experience over the other B&M inverts that I’ve ridden.
This is the roller coaster that got me into roller coasters, made me a coaster enthusiast, made me a fan of B&M and inverted coasters AND inversions! What an amazing ride!
Great Bear got a bit overshadowed for me while there, but I definitely enjoyed my rides. I've now ridden every B&M invert in the country, so I liked that this was very different from the typical invert, with the unique layout and the interactions. I'm not the biggest B&M invert fan, but I feel that this is one of the better ones.
Okay, so here's my review: PRESENTATION: *9* While lacking in a real theme, it looks really cool, flying over the park and Hershey's strange terrain, and the color scheme fits really well! INTENSITY: *9* I don't gray out a lot, and this does it multiple times. Point reduction for the pre-drop helix. FUN FACTOR: *10* A coaster even my mom, who doesn't ride extreme coasters, will enjoy. SMOOTHNESS: *9* Overall really smooth, but it can jostle you around sometimes. ORIGINALITY: *10* This layout is WEIRD, especially that beginning helix. FINAL SCORE: *9.4* PERSONAL SCORE: *9.5*
Great review. It may have less inversions than other B&M inverts, but it's SO smooth. Rode it first in 1999, a few more times in the years following, and finally got another trip out to Hershey in 2015 and it was still running so smoothly (I can't say that for Batman at Six Flags Great Adventure, which I LOVED as a teen, but it hasn't aged well). I also LOVE the helix before the drop, it's awesomely disorienting and gives great views. And you're also right about the way Hershey rides interact with other rides; you don't often see that at other parks.
That front row is sick! It’s pretty smooth for its age and you really move with this ride. Additionally, this ride is intense at times and unpredictable. Great ride!
This is a great ride but you're right in saying it gets it's attention taken away by Hershey's other fantastic coasters! It's short and sweet with no roughness at all. I love this coaster and did it twice two weeks ago!
Your are forgetting one the about great bear is it's big roar it makes I love hearing it and got to ride it on opening day of this year along with candy mouim and that bear was my 1st B&M inverts but it's the only one I been on but next year I'm going to King Island and other parks have a inverts
I love Great Bear, it's always been one of my favorites in the park. I ride it numerous times whenever I visit. This coaster still draws a huge crowd after all these years. If it's a busy day, you're going to wait about an hour for it, maybe more. I personally love the helix before the drop, I think it pulls some good G's and it's a nice little teaser.
I was just there yesterday and I LOVE this coaster just as much if not more at 32 as when I was a teen! I cannot believe how well this ride has held up! I agree completely with you! 😁😁😁😁
I go back and forth between Great Bear and Talon. I love Talon for how relentless it feels throughout the layout and how it keeps it's speed so well. Definitely a great invert. Great Bear takes the originality cake though and I get more enjoyment watching it than I do Talon. Not to mention the roar it makes just never gets old! It's crazy how Talon is almost silent in comparison, though I know that was done on purpose since Dorney had noise ordinances to comply with.
We took one of our family vacation to Hersheypark the year Great Bear opened. It's still my favorite ride in the park and one of my favorite coasters ever. The roar of the coaster sounds similar to the bear roar played during Hershey Bears hockey games, I always wondered if they just used a recording of the coaster for it.
It's cool to see all the love for Great Bear and Hersheypark is 45 min from my house, so go team.....but Montu, Banshee and even Alpengiest are on a different level.
Hershey is my home park - Great Bear was my first coaster with an inversion, and I’ve ridden it 100’s of times. Unfortunately, I had a very (uncharacteristically) bumpy ride last weekend in the front row, and I suffered a mild concussion. 10/10 will ride again tho! 😁
I love GB! I love to hear it roar through the park. I tried to get my son on it but he swears he’s going to hit his legs on one of the near misses! 😂 Such a little nerd. I hadn’t rode it in years and got on a couple weeks ago and I was surprised at the intensity of the rolls. I had to wonder if it was always that intense or if I’m just getting old! 😆
I haven't rode Great Bear yet, hopefully will next year but I have a funny feeling it won't beat Montu for me. I have ridden Raptor, Banshee, and multiple Batman the Ride clones but Montu is just on another level as far as inverts go.
I thought this was a good invert. I still like Alpengeist the most because of how big it is! Another one of my favorites is Silver Bullet at Knott's Berry Farm. I don't know why it doesn't get talked about more. The interaction with the other attractions is just like Great Bear here at Hersheypark.
Great Bear was my first real rollercoaster if you know what I mean lol, I mean besides super cooper looper and The scooby do rollercoaster at kings dominion my first intense rollercoaster after this I felt like I was on top of the world and felt like I could handle anything
Why does it seem like the newer B&M's aren't as smooth as the older ones? What exactly did they change that makes them not run like their older models? I haven't ridden any newer ones that run glossy smooth like the old ones. There's always a vibration with the newer ones that's annoying. I also miss the loud roaring sound of the older ones vs the quieter newer ones.
Idk if it was me but when I rode it 2020 august 27 there was a lot of head banging I came off with a head ache I sat in the front row idk what happened to this ride
"The front is where you're going to get the best view and the back is where you get the best forces" says anybody (who knows anything about coasters) about almost all coasters, because it's true.
@@XscreamThrills I can see that; the strongest moment of airtime on Steel Vengeance's back car is the double up to the MCBR. I've not ridden it in the front but know it'd be even stronger up there.
@@XscreamThrills by no means do I not enjoy it though! It always runs pretty smooth and the first helix is great! I just like an invert that tries to rip your feet off(Montu, Afterburn, Batman's)
@@XscreamThrills yea it’s my favorite invert to because of how the 0 g roll feels right after the Immelmann* idk why it took so long for me to correct that
Way too high of a score imo... higher rated than SteVe. Great bear is unique, but no way is it the greatest invert out there. To each their own I suppose.
This is such an underrated gem I don’t care that after the corkscrew it just had turns I still find it fun it’s like a calm down moment
The roar of this B&M Invert is very unique I love how the pitch gets higher and lower during the ride
It a B&M character trait, I love it. I wonder if Great Bear will make it into my top 5 favs? B&M is my fav manufacturer, I hope this doesn't disappoint.
My 3rd favorite invert behind Banshee & Alpengeist!🥃 Got a great POV of this beauty 🎢
This thing runs as smooth as a brand new coaster.
Dang, and I thought i liked this coaster but not quite this much
I've always had a soft spot for Great Bear.
XscreamThrills same. Not sure if my PA bias is showing but I’ve always preferred it’s unique ride experience over the other B&M inverts that I’ve ridden.

@@XscreamThrills This invert has kind of grown into one of my favorites. It is unique.
Great review! I prefer the Intamins at this park, but Great Bear is everything an invert should be.
Exactly! 👌
My favorite part of this coaster to watch is the straight section right before the Immelmann I love how the roar sounds like a bear at that part
There's many great parts of the ride I enjoying watching, though I enjoy that corkscrew the best

Great review! Great Bear looks truly underrated
This and Talon seem like some underrated gems as far as inverts go. I really wanna see how these compare.
Talon in dorney going to get a new layout and take out the zero g roll

I always enjoy Great Bear when go to Hershey
Probably the smoothest coaster I've been on, the corkscrew is really snappy!
I love this coaster, too! This is my favorite coaster ever!
Its a great coaster!
Nice video, we loved it, definitely an under rated invert not a lot of people talk about. Crime we only rode this once during our trip.
I haven't rode Great Bear yet, hopefully will next year but I have a funny feeling it won't beat Montu for me. I have ridden Raptor, Banshee, and multiple Batman the Ride clones but Montu is just on another level as far as inverts go.
Looking forward to riding Montu again soon 👍
This ride is so smooth! Sadly banshee which it is at home park kings island had a bad b and m rattle.
This is such a smooth ride.👍🏽
Front row night rides are great!

No theme? It's right next to Zoo America bear section. It roars throughout the park like a bear. And Hershey Bears Hockey Team...
From somebody who has been to Hershey multiple times but has not ridden great bear but my family has they say it’s great
Maybe it's time to give Great Bear a chance

Yeah it’s kind of sad
banshee is my fav invert. but this is my second fav invert i been on .
Love this coaster, but I still love Montu most out of the inverts.
It's been too long for me to properly rank Montu, but hopefully 2021/2022 I'll make it back
That helix is pretty intense
You forgot about how Great Bear Roars throughout that section of the park.
The B&M Roar! :)
I found this to be more intense then Batman but it might be because I rode it in the back row with an empty stomach
I think the track color is nice
Im rly scared of roller coasters and i almost passed out on the comet should i go on this???? Someone reply please
Idk if it was me but when I rode it 2020 august 27 there was a lot of head banging I came off with a head ache I sat in the front row idk what happened to this ride
🤷♂️ not sure, no head banging when I rode last in July
It ran great when I rode it this year in August
Does it bother anyone else that the B&M invert, which was made for inversions, sometimes only features 4 of them?
I totally agree! Check out my RCT3 recreation of it!
"The front is where you're going to get the best view and the back is where you get the best forces" says anybody (who knows anything about coasters) about almost all coasters, because it's true.
Not always, I'd argue that some coasters lack forces in the back rows (GCI/select RMCs) while the front row packs a punch
@@XscreamThrills I can see that; the strongest moment of airtime on Steel Vengeance's back car is the double up to the MCBR. I've not ridden it in the front but know it'd be even stronger up there.
Are you sure it's better than Raptor or Afterburn or even a Batman clone?
Haven't been on Afterburn, but better than Raptor or Batman
How are the restraints?
Like typical B&M invert restraints. They're comfy
My least favorite invert, lacks strong forces minus a few sections. Too much straight track.
Surprised, but we all have our own tastes 👍
@@XscreamThrills by no means do I not enjoy it though! It always runs pretty smooth and the first helix is great! I just like an invert that tries to rip your feet off(Montu, Afterburn, Batman's)
I think I enjoy the interactions more with inverts than intensity. Which is why this is my favorite invert and Dueling Dragons is my defunct favorite
afterburn >>
I'll hopefully decide that next year 🤞
I’m salty because it was closed when I came to Hershey:(
😥
XscreamThrills and candymonium wasn’t built yet, and being from the UK, il probably never go again 😢
