Sligs are just so well designed. From the mechanical sounds they make when walking, to their silhouette and to their posture. From a character design standpoint, near perfection if I dare say so!
Absolutely, the background clunking of mudokons mining, the mechanical whir of the sligs walking back and forth, and the churning hum of background machinery and understated music is stuck in my head forever
Considering that the creator of oddworld even said "in an ideal ending, nobody has to die, not even sligs", we could very well see the sligs join forces with the mudokons in later games as they succeed more and more in overpowering and destroying glukkon factories and stuff.
I’m just gonna say that after seeing the true ending of Soulstorm, I hope to see them recycle the Sligstorm-idea and introduce us the Albino Slig as the next main character in the future. I really like that idea when I first heard of Sligstorm years ago.
Playing as a slig would be hella different but I like the idea. You already play as a slig a lot in other games anyway. You could have a way to exchange your legs for the helicopter or smth.
or do Oddworld with Munch hero cuz they made it that first is New n' Tasty and second Soulstorm. While in old Oddworld we had Munch and not to mention we had also "Stranger".
Part of me thinks that Abe will possibly team up with the Albino Slig, being an outcast of Slig society, my guess is that their initial encounter is pretty rocky, seeing one another as rivals, however, overtime Abe has a chance to show him that the rest of the Sligs in the Magog Cartel are slaves just like the Mudokons. Essentially they’re both fighting for the same thing, but with different motives. Abe wants to save his kin from certain death, while the Albino Slig is saving himself, he doesn’t trust anyone, but now, seeing things on common ground, he’s willing to help out.
Sligs are the best creatures in Oddworld in my opinion. As a kid I loved watching MoM news from Abes Exoddus just to watch Slig doin funny stuff. Chauffer Slig in Soulstorm made me laugh sometime, his way of speaking and humor are just brilliant. WE NEED MORE SLIGIES ^^
I love sligs, too. And I think the reason they're in this awkward place of loveable antagonist is because we get to posses them so much in the first games. In Soulstorm I'm so glad they could shoot more freely and grab Abe and slam him down and fight back. And they could climb poles. Those were really good upgrades. The Chauffer slig is my new favorite and I hope we get to see more of him.
I am curious if the Sligs will have someone from their perspective. Where the Sligs face off against a different enemy or a different militaristic slave species. Also, I like how Mullock learned of the importance of loyalty of his workforce. It would mean he'd have an edge over other Gulkkons. I felt like Sligs are a good interpretation of a threatening and funny antagonists. I'm more intimidated by a Slig instead of a Storm Trooper.

The Sligs are easily one of the most iconic enemies, and chatacters in general, to come from the Oddworld games. I love how much humour and personality they bring to the Oddworld universe! Also, I found it ironic, considering what I'm talking about at that time, that I've only just noticed that the Slig's face briefly clips through his mask in the cutscene played at 2:02. (And, just to clarify, I know what BS actually stands for. ;))
Id love if they ever showed concept art or if somehow in the story we could see pre gluckon rule sligs where they are still pale and there bodys grow naturally and what they were like as a people before they worked for the glucks itd honestly be some of the most interesting lore especially if they did ever release a slig centered story
Me too. All the different sounds of the sligs are what really attached me to the original oddworld game on PS1. From the way the walk, talk, and act, its so memorable
That.....would actually make a better concept story for that never released 'Slig storm'. The Albino Slig could be more 'evolved' then the others as he was a 'reject' and never argument with the restraints the others have at birth. It gave him longer life, the development of.....whatever passes for 'legs' on a Slig, a developed brain, but still has the 'Slig pants' or at least a version meant to carry more, like an exoskeleton or something, and though smaller then those 'juiced up' Sligs, able to carry larger weaponry, mixed with intelligence and a longer life span, the other Sligs would follow him, perhaps set the story in motion when the Albino Slig sees what baby Sligs are put through, the bindings and misery, and decided to do something about it.
I've loved the Sligs since my first contact with the game, when I was 8 years old. Their design was very creative (like most of the oddworld creatures), but there was that special something - maybe their "snouts"? How versatile their "forms" were? It's very sad to learn to about the amount of abuse and modifications those baby slugs endure to become heartless enforces is just very sad. I wish we could see some "free-roaming" sligs, untainted by the cartels, in upcoming games or other content. Sligs killing their masters in Soulstorm makes me think maybe there will be some kind of a revolution approaching. They are aware of their mistreatment to some degree and can learn the truth about their orgins? Maybe they'll get their own "Abe Guy"? Since Gluk economy is based on Mudokon labour and they are abandoning their posts, their industries become more and more unsustainable, and thus the social structure is prone to collapse. Maybe, in a long run, the events of the games will change the society of Oddworld and some order based more on mutual respect than abuse and exploitation may emerge?
It honestly makes me so happy there are people who still talk about the masterpiece that is Oddworld!! It feels like it's been erased from existence at times... given how little it's talked about now! I hope Oddworld blows up again one day, like it did back when it first came out... Oddworld is my favorite game franchise ever!
I like to believe the sligs were chosen because their small fingers could allow to use weapons only available to them, in order to insure that a mudoken or other untrained species couldn’t use them.
So happy to see you back. Also glad to see Lorne Lanning gave you a shot out on twitter! Make me very happy, and you've definitely earned my sub, and many others
Also, I just noticed, the sligs eyes are to the side akin to animals like certain small animals and the majority of livestock, not straight ahead. I wonder if the Sligs started out as a Prey species in their natural environment?
2:19 I would adopt a slig as a pet, he would probably enjoy life a whole lot more If they didn't get their legs blinded together As well as being able to just hang out.
Sligs have to be one of my most favorite creatures in all of Oddworld. They have pump-action shotguns, yet they use them as assault rifles, and they look like Helghans from Killzone 2.
I miss the clanky matalic machinegun sfx of the original slig gun. I like the new variety of weapon, but that heavy mechanical sound of their old rifles sounded way more intimidating.
I liked the Abe games as a kid, it was one of my favourite PS1 games besides Rayman, but I never managed to finish it. I always stopped after the escape from Rapture Farms (because I found the jungle too spooky and difficult). Sligs are the enemies I remember the most and I always kind of liked them. Their sound design is awesome. Really liked their ending in Soul Storm.
Have you done a video on the slig queen? I can't remember. Also, I would love to see a completely natural population of Sligs helping Abe in a future game.
I'd love them to expand on the Sligs in a future game, maybe have them actually side with the Mudokons even if it is just a temporary alliance to overthrow the Cartel.
It says a lot that I still find sligs funny and likeable after being shot by them somewhere in the order of 600,000 times and then had to watch them laugh and jeer over my withered corpse. In fact when I decided to buy myself an Oddworld t-shirt, out of all the designs available, I opted for the slig.
I wonder if YAYMANS is the place where the SKILLYA lives close there after all the palace of incubation in the book art is like a paradise hotel with water and buffets. Also there a draw with Skrillya talking with a Glukkon...

The sligs quite literally are the most vital thing to the glukkons. Without them, the glukkons are almost completely defenseless. They can even easily turn on their masters if they want to due to their weaponry and the glukkons themselves basically being completely unable to defend themselves, soulstorms good ending shows this in full detail
I think there might even be some nice sligs that would work with Abe and Alf with the Mudokon's, there was one that was beaten to death with his own arms so there could be a good one or two that could help Abe.
I'd love to see a sort of spinoff, where a slig uprising did occur. Hell, they could make it into a shooter if they played their cards right. It would obviously have to be a weird shooter though.

I'd really like to see some of those gentle sligs acting as allies at some point. Ones without masks or modifications, capable of clear thought and empathy.
Honestly this is amazing writing the villains henchmen are also victims but brainwashed to the point of almost having undying loyalty to their masters but they are forced to rely on them as they know nothing else since they were born but obviously that's also changed a little with soulstorm.
i wonder if the sligs are just the way they are since they dont know any other way of living. i dont think they are even aware that they have a mother or that there mother sold them into the magog cartel. i wonder if molick and his chauffeur become the reason they rebel on a scale like abe did or if abe need to help the sligs find their mother with the help of the chauffeur just like abe needs to find his.
They do know they have a mother and they are conditioned to cripplingly fear her, being threated with being 'sent to their mother', being afraid of failing to obey. Basically a toxic oppresive parent-child relationship.
Where is the cutscene of the slig broadcaster from around 3:1i8 in this video taken from? Is it a Soulstorm scene, because I don't recall seeing that in Abe's Exoddus.

The sligs are like mixture of the Enclave from fallout and Bad guys from dune
I hope one day we get a oddworld as we get to play as a good slig and we get to lead a large revolution now that be a game I'd play
I think I came up with a god level slig one that was allowed to fully grow then got body enhesments and the got the big bro stuff then got a blitzpacker minion and armor
not minon I meant minigun
These body modifications they have to go through while they are babys make me sad :(
the saddest thing is how theirs queen dont give an shit about all these horrors happening every day to is offspring
@@the_bane_of_all_anti_furry she hates her offspring due to the immense pain birthing them causes her
@@Morgomir09 yes but humans and probably the mudokons female fell pain when birthing theirs babies but they dont devour them for that
@@the_bane_of_all_anti_furry not this level of pain
And mudokons are hatched from eggs laid by a queen, rather than birthed in the traditional sense
