I made some of these for my grand daughters when they were little but they were coloring book totes and the pockets were made to hold the crayons with individual baby pockets for each crayon and did that on both outside pockets. It just dawned on me I need to make one for my grand son. Poor little guy is the only boy out of 6 grand kids.
Absolutely! I wondered the same as well. Her presentation was a beyond Amazing! And what people dont get is that it's Real life Practical tote bag in the making. She is teaching us such useful and resourceful things. We owe her lots of love, support and respect.
I used to love sewing with my Grandmother when I was younger and have just recently gotten back into it. Thank you for making these easy to follow and simple beginner tutorials! It does wonders for boosting confidence when starting out! So I appreciate it!
I found this channel yesterday. I made the bag today. Love it! I’m seeing so many possiblilities and different sizes to make! Great way to decrease my stock pile! ❤️❤️
Hi, I have been searching for a simple tote pattern. I found you. This was so simple and easy to follow. I decided to use vinyl for this project. It turned out well. I am used to sewing but in an industrial setting. But when it comes to simple things such as tote bags I feel lost. Thanks so much for this tutorial. It was extremely helpful.
Not only is the tote bag the best, but this tutorial is as well. Thank you for such a clear and thorough explanation and very useful visuals at every step. I used this to sew my first tote which came out perfect enough to gift to my niece.
Thank you so much for this!!! I made a Lilo and Stitch one last night as a gift. It was so quick and easy. I am making myself a Zelda one tonight. You explain so clearly and well. This was my second project ever and really gave me the confidence I needed with my new sewing machine. Thank you!
This was very easy & informative. I am going to make one for my phone & water bottle the pockets will be perfect. I go outside to watch my 4 grandchildren all summer & need a bag to carry & protect those items. This can easily hang on my chair👍Thank you!!
Thanks for the quick and easy tutorial. I'm teaching a few kids how to sew and wanted a quick bag pattern that would give them nice clean results they could be proud of and this hit the mark just right. I simplified it down to just the basic bag with no pockets - this is only their second project after all - and they were able to sew them start to finish in about an hour and a half. Of course I made one myself and it came together in 15 minutes but it took 30 years to get that fast ;)
Hi, last week I made a lovely butterfly tote bag, and yes it was a couple of days after christmas, this week started make another bag with the same pattern design on the front and forgot how to put the linning in. Ye a very senior moment and I'm only 61, so not inpressed with myself. as we do I went onto youtube and found your video, thank you, half way though whatching the video I remembered how to do it. P.s I made 6 of your bags in one after for friends birthdays that are coming up soon, once again Thank you for your instruction.
this just came up on my feed... man, do you make this look easy!! I'm definitely going to make a few of these. I'm always looking for a small tote bag to go to/from my car!! and this is just perfect 😍🤩
I've seen on several tutorials, and I myself also use glue stick. I've never had a problem. I've bought the really expensive glue stick from the quilting section before and honestly it's the same quality just three times expensive
Made this bag yesterday. Thanks. It was quick, easy to follow tutorial and am hooked. So much you can do with this. Again appreciate your sharing and look forward to making many more.
Wonderful video! I am looking into making a little bag for my grandma to use for her walker and this gave me such a great idea of how to construct it. Thanks for sharing!
By far the easiest video I have ever came across. I'm still a beginner with many different things and I got to make a tote bag for a friend and it came out beautifully. I was also able to learn pockets thanks to you. Definitely will be subscribing and watching more of your projects!
Thank you so much for this tutorial, Virginia! I made one today. I didn't have the right kind of interfacing so I used a thin pelon batting. (Never again!) I made the same mistake as you with the inside pocket! Can't wait to make more! Thanks again for the awesome video! (Oh, I also included a little strap inside to hold a small water bottle vertical.)
Oh I love this and can’t wait to make one for my grandsons!! Just recently started sewing again and I’m having fun!! Thank you Virginia!!! I started making hats for the nurses and it got me going!!
Can't wait to get back from vacation to make this tote! Simple and easy directions. Your sewing table is uncluttered and pleasant to look at. Just found you last night on RUclips! This is going to be a good time! Thank you very much! 😊
I love this tote pattern and you made the directions easy to follow. Thank you so very much for sharing. It was so much fun making it. I used the lining fabric to make the straps. My first try didn't come out perfect but I will be making several more for friends and family. (I realized that I should have made the seams a little wider). I have included a few photos. The second one shows the lining and inside pocket.
By watching your video I think I have figured out a way to add an extra pouch to make the tote a double one with two pouches instead of one. Thank you so much for showing a different way to make a lined tote bag!
Thanks Virginia, for sharing to stitch this Tote bag full of Pockets ! I will surely stitch this Tote Bag & gift it to my daughter . I think she will love it !.Bye & Keep Posting.
Gorgeous! I love the fabric you chose. I would like to add the extra step of making the corners so that the bag will have a little depth, I've already seen it in another video, but overall your instructions are very clear and the bag looks great!
I've made tote bags from several patterns but your method is the easiest, yet with more, ie the pockets. Fabulous and thankyou! Just one thought, maybe check if the inner pocket will hold a mobile phone? Just love your "blue houses" fabric. 😊
This is a great quick tote and well thought out and presented. I downloaded your "cut guide" and noticed that you actually have a piece called "lining pocket". I was a bit confused at first - then I realized what you meant was "interior pocket" not "lining FOR the pocket".
Thanks, Virginia- I combined this and the fabric gift box boxy corners and it came out so great. Your tutorials are fabulous- I used my own spoonflower fabric and love my new boxy corner tote.
Looove this fabric! Is there a link to buy it? Really cute tote. One thing I wish you mentioned for the beginners is to make sure the handles aren't twisted before attaching them 😁 really annoying when you figure it a bit late haha
I know if you want to make the pockets divided, you need to do it separately, before you tuck the lining back in (like separately stitch a dividing line up the pocket where you want it). If you want to do boxed corners, do you do them at the same time (outside & lining together), or separately? I would guess together, but I’ve never made those yet. Also, would you add a covered stabilizer to the bottom if you box the corners? Great tutorial! Thanks!
I think this would make an awesome little diaper bag when you don't want to carry a huge one. if you boxed the corners and added a Velcro closure. love this idea!
Is the bag 14 x 12 or 12 x 14? You are confusing me with the front pocket in order for it to match it should be 14 x12 but you say the middle is six inches not 7 inches. Please clear this up for me.
Thank you for this demo! I love totes with pockets and lining. Your directions are easy to follow. Can’t wait to try making this. I’ll check out your website, too!
Wow love your tutorial the way you teach just as simple and explanatory and to the point I will be making a couple of these bags for gifts (love your pin cushion so cute )you gave me an idea making one did you make them out of 1" square blocks ? Great Job!!
Cute tote bag Virginia. I like to use a drop-lining method for lining my bags. You may want to teach your class how to do this. Thanks for the tutorial. Great job😍😍😍
Just found your channel and just watched this as my first video. I love it! You explain so well and I can see clearly. Can’t wait to watch more ! Thank you so much!
I was actually looking for another video u did on canvas lined tote bags as gifts for Christmas but I'm thinking I like this one much better bcuz it had more uses I think. Sept I'll still use the canvas in place of the pelton material. Hopfully that won't make it too bulky? Thank you and God bless you! I always am confused when it comes to the lining inside out but, the way u explain an demonstrate it I think I'll be able to do it.
I love the fabric so cute very easy to follow. Tutorial but I wish you would have shown everybody out of box the corners on the bottom...but a get bag you do alot With
hi Ruth! Yes, I thought a lot about those corners! But it would have been too short since I was using just the half yard of fabric. So, if you go to the store and can buy 20'' instead of the 18'' half yard, that would work great!
Thanks for sharing this! About the glue, I’m sure you probably already know about it, but there’s glue proper for fabric and sewing that I think isn’t very expensive. I use the one from Clover but I live in Japan. EDIT: I just browsed at Amazon and I suppose it isn’t as cheap as I thought... definitely not a dollar.
Thank you for not making us wait through the slow sewing parts. So nice to see the process without the time for stitching.
I made some of these for my grand daughters when they were little but they were coloring book totes and the pockets were made to hold the crayons with individual baby pockets for each crayon and did that on both outside pockets. It just dawned on me I need to make one for my grand son. Poor little guy is the only boy out of 6 grand kids.
sounds like a great use for this bag! sometimes those little boys get forgotten in the sewing!
Have been teaching my granddaughter to sew and your youtube video is so good. Thank you and God Bless you and your family.
Love how matter of fact and casual you are, I can relate!
You make explanations easy, thank you!
This is so cute. You made it so simple. I dont know why anyone will give it a thumbs down because you explained the process quite well.
Absolutely! I wondered the same as well. Her presentation was a beyond Amazing! And what people dont get is that it's Real life Practical tote bag in the making.
She is teaching us such useful and resourceful things. We owe her lots of love, support and respect.
You are a GREAT instructor. Love watching your videos.
I used to love sewing with my Grandmother when I was younger and have just recently gotten back into it. Thank you for making these easy to follow and simple beginner tutorials! It does wonders for boosting confidence when starting out! So I appreciate it!
If you deliberately use a very light colored lining it's easier to find things when you are searching through your bag.😊
I found this channel yesterday. I made the bag today. Love it! I’m seeing so many possiblilities and different sizes to make! Great way to decrease my stock pile! ❤️❤️

Thank you so much, made one for my grandson, it is precious. Wish I could post a pic.

Thank you for your tutorial. I have been trying to find a vid on how to do the pockets and you showed it perfectly! Thank you 🙏 again.
I've watched a lot of these tote bag videos and yours is now my favorite one. Thank you for such great teaching.
Fun, fast, and easy thanks to Virginia's help. Very clear instruction and depiction. Thanks Ginger Cake
I've seen on several tutorials, and I myself also use glue stick. I've never had a problem. I've bought the really expensive glue stick from the quilting section before and honestly it's the same quality just three times expensive
Thank you for explaining slowly. You are a Great teacher!!
Made this bag yesterday. Thanks. It was quick, easy to follow tutorial and am hooked. So much you can do with this. Again appreciate your sharing and look forward to making many more.
That is great Gary! I agree that you can do so much with this bag. I am so glad that you got it done and enjoyed the process :)

This was so easy to follow! I am hoping to make a few more to give as gifts.
Wonderful!
This is really descriptive.
Thank you for this tutorial
I'll make this once I get the time and fabric
I love it....I would definitely need more pockets for what I would use it for......great job and thank you!
I made this and it turned out adorable
Gorgeous! I love the fabric you chose. I would like to add the extra step of making the corners so that the bag will have a little depth, I've already seen it in another video, but overall your instructions are very clear and the bag looks great!
I Love your half yard bags🙄they will make great GIFTS
THANK YOU SO MUCH,I AM NEW TO SEWING, THAT MAKES ME WANT TO DO MORE WITH SIMPLE PROJECTS.🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

Wow I really love this tutorial, love the hand measurement too thanks!! I might add a magnetic snap !!! Thank You
Excellent! Best bag method I’ve seen so far 😊

Loved your explanation!! Realy quick and easy! Thanks
Thanks, Virginia- I combined this and the fabric gift box boxy corners and it came out so great. Your tutorials are fabulous- I used my own spoonflower fabric and love my new boxy corner tote.
Hi. This is great for me as a beginner. I will try it today foe sure. Thank you so much!
Now we need an easy purse to go with this bag. Love your patterns.
Nancy Giggey thanks so much!
You always make things that are practical, thank you. I'm going to have a go at making this.
just received your book yesterday. Love it. Can't wait to start the projects. Thanks.
Im a beginner and this is easier to understand than "reading" a pattern from McCall's. Thank you!!!
I agree! THose patterns are hard to follow! Thanks for being here :)
It would nice if you could actually show from the beginning how to cut the pieces, etc.
Looove this fabric! Is there a link to buy it? Really cute tote. One thing I wish you mentioned for the beginners is to make sure the handles aren't twisted before attaching them 😁 really annoying when you figure it a bit late haha
Hello Virginia. That was a wonderful demo for sewing a half yard tote !!!
I can't wait to stitch one !!
Great tutorial! I made two already - one horizontal and one vertical. Both adorable!
Can’t stop making these totes!
I know if you want to make the pockets divided, you need to do it separately, before you tuck the lining back in (like separately stitch a dividing line up the pocket where you want it). Very nice. Great instructions. Anxious to make it. Thanks.
Thanks for your great tips and instruction! I thoroughly enjoyed making this little tote and the simplicity of it!
you are welcome Melinda! I am glad it worked well for you!
So beautiful to watch
I’m trying it
I think this would make an awesome little diaper bag when you don't want to carry a huge one. if you boxed the corners and added a Velcro closure. love this idea!

Thanks for the cute and easy bag, now I can get my Grandchildren to make one.
Great video. I made the bag and love it. So easy!!! Thanks!
I just made this and I love it! I'm going to make lots more. Thank you for this great tutorial.
Great idea and easy tote. Thank you. I would put the glue inside of the sewing area. Cheap glue (I use :-) ) usually isn't water soluble.
Will be using a new fabric to make this bag tomorrow. Love the pockets and how easy a pattern it is.
Great video, thank you.
Thank you for this demo! I love totes with pockets and lining. Your directions are easy to follow. Can’t wait to try making this. I’ll check out your website, too!
Great bag. Virginia. Loved the tutorial. Have made one of your bags from your website and it came out beautifully. Thanks
You made it look so easy to make☺️
If you topstitch the top, it will help reinforce the handle area and make it more sturdy.
Great job😍😍😍
pam bradshaw I don’t know what drop lining is! Now I have to go look it up!!
Virginia Lindsay A drop in lining is so easy to use. If you need help understanding how to do let me know.
Thank you very much good clear instructions and I have made a lovely bag too.
So sweet! Thanks for sharing...the glue stick trick is just too cool...gosh I *hate* basting lol
Just found your channel and just watched this as my first video. I love it! You explain so well and I can see clearly. Can’t wait to watch more ! Thank you so much!
I've seen quilters use the glue stick. As long as it's water soluble it's ok......I like it!!!!!!

Wow...it's really pretty......and I love this bag
OMG. So beautiful
Cute; only change I'd make is to box the bottom [especially if you plan on carrying books].
So cute...i love it..thank u for.sharing
