Damn the front bumper delete makes it look.. kinda nice. If the blinkers where set into the sheetmetal that would be a really nice look. Combine that with one of those ducktail roof spoilers, a warp (because paiting a yugo is too much work), color the interior black.. That would be a fun lil' nugget. Really reminds me of a Mark 1 Golf now.
Yeah I also see a mk1 Golf, or a little hint of SAAB 900. (Maybe just because my 900 is a similar age and color, and this is making me think about a similar bumper delete.)
Hello, in Argentina they sell many pieces to modify that engine, apart from that engine can be stroke at 1,900 cc. In terms of front and rear I see it very similar to the fiat 147 for which many modifications are also sold here. good luck with the project. sorry for my bad english.
South America has an awesome mix of region specific cars and cool models we don't get here in the EU. I would like to see this Yugo turn into a full rally car, those parts you mentioned would fit nicely.
Came across this video and just as a joke I decided to look to see if there were currently any Yugos for sale and much to my surprise, I noticed a familiar Yugo in the "recently sold" auction listings (annoyingly, a lot of those pop up when you search for old cars for sale). May 9th, 2022, 2;18 EDT, Sold for $4,750 , sold by "agingbob", a heavily modified light brownish Yugo with racing tires and fog lights. He sold the Yugo.
For some reason I convinced myself that this car was going to Hoovie. So good to see that it's going to somebody who lives on the darker side and knows that it really could be worse.
I was once a “proud owner” of a “ticket me red” Yugo GV back in the late ‘80’s. Believe it or not, I put 102,000 miles on it before the engine finally went ka-put. Then, even more unbelievable, I sold it to a collector for $500 cash just a few months later!
That sounds like you got one of the better ones. All the jokes and negative comments come from experiences with the bad ones, with the majority in the middle being at least halfway decent transportation. That applies to most vehicles.
@@bobblum5973 oh you bet. One of my favorite jokes was “what’s the rear defrost for in a Yugo?” The punchline: “to keep your hands warm while pushing it!”
@@JohnConner101 I remember that the engine which was basically a Fiat engine ATE drive belts. And those were not easy to replace. My brother and I had to change those at least 3 times in the short time I had that car. There was barely an inch of space between the side wall and the front of the engine (transverse). And those who forgot, the spare tire was also in the engine compartment basically on top of the engine. It was such a silly little car. My biggest issue was the clutch. That was replaced twice. Other than that, it ran “ok”. Wasn’t anything exciting at all. And forget driving up steep inclines. Car had very little power.
Glad to hear you actually replaced it multiple times, seems most owners didn't know it was supposed to be replaced every 30,000 miles. I currently owned an '88 GV, albeit with a 2 inch lift and snow tires (the spare doesn't fit in the engine as it's supposed to 😂)

@Robert Nelson They did a collab a while back. It was a mock aging wheels review of a Ferrari that caught on fire. It was tavarish's car and it was in his shop.
Those giggles at the end was a combination of pure joy and sheer terror from the steering. It very rare to see true happiness like that in this day and age.
That original yugo video with its sarcastic humor whether on purpose or not was the main factor I subscribed and I haven't regretted it yet so... Cant wait to see more content and keep up the great work!
"...now it's hot sh!t" absolutely killed me. Well played, Tavarish - you get to have all the fun with it and don't need to deal with actually, you know, owning / driving it. Smart.
I autocrossed a Fiat 128 sedan with that engine in it and it is a high revving monster! That design was the first belt drive overhead cam engine sold in the USA...
"the shifter was so vague and meaningless it might as well have been fine art" This right here, before even the half-minute mark, is a good resume of Robert's sense of humor that I signed up for. Also a video that comes very timely, as I've just settled on a network of broadcasting friends of mine to goof around with, except it's on Twitch - so instead of his well-applied editing chops I prefer to play games with silly stories or roleplay on the strategy and simulation genres.
It's probably one of my favorite channels... and I don't like the cars at all! He just makes them seem so interesting that it changes my perception of them.
Samcrac's taste in mods is terrible though. Remember that disgustig steering wheel he put in the AMG E class? Or ditching the period-correct wheels with some ridiculous black wheels that have no place on a Mercedes?
It may have been a poopy Yugo, but it was entirely in line with my experiences with a similar Yugo about 27 years ago. Same color and everything. In fact...
Congrats on the new addition to your stable of weird yet interesting small cars. I was actually toying with the idea of buying a new Yugo way back in '87/'88, also looked at a used Renault LeCar, and a new Subaru Justy, but eventually the rational part of my brain kicked in and I settled on a brand spanky new '88 VW Jetta. Not sure if I made the right choice as it burned enough oil to kill the catalytic converter in less than 2 years, eventually the engine needed a complete rebuild, all under factory warranty thankfully.
@@discopot I watched LGR first...didn't get the notification for this video until after it was over. I wonder if we'll get an LGR/Aging Wheels crossover episode?
This brings back memories... Back in the day, I had a Fiat 127 (1975). An Italian version of the Yogo. All mechanics are basically the same. It was slow as F.... But we hack up a crashed Fiat Uno 1.4 Turbo, and through many long nights day a lot of headache, we finally got the engine and transmission installed. Boost pressure was slightly bumped up, and the final car was pushing about 150 bhp. Brakes was swapped from the Fiat Uno, so it had some stopping power. Car was fun, loud and made a ton of wheelspin.
About 20 years ago I saw a yugo at a pick and pull. Not one piece was taken off of it. When they first came out here in America I worked for a company that would install air conditioning in them. The “ Factory “ a/c kits were a joke. Even new they ran terrible and were noisey. But I really want one. If you get tired of it you can send it to me. I’m a professional auto technician by trade so it will be in good hands.
It would be fun to see the SAAB 2-stroke engine in the Trabby. Depending on the availability of a SAAB engine, maybe a modern Rotax 2-stroke (or something similar) could work?
The classic and most common way to do it here in (East)Germany is (or was) the 3cyl Wartburg 2t engine. But I guess Saab and Rotax are way easier to come by in the US. Or he could go a complete other way, since the last produced ~40k Trabis had 1.1 Liter 4t engines... a little Rover V8 may be funny too. ^^

A little hint about the fabric dye: It needs to be ironed before the paint stays on permanently. If not (as it is with my Golf's headlining) it will come off by having contact with anything. Perhaps it's because I used the cheapest one on Amazon, but still I'd suggest that you think about this. If you find a way, please mention it in a video. Much obliged, Francis

They actually make hatch louvers for these.
Yeah I also see a mk1 Golf, or a little hint of SAAB 900. (Maybe just because my 900 is a similar age and color, and this is making me think about a similar bumper delete.)
Funny thing the golf mk1 was also assembled in Yugoslavia
Hello, in Argentina they sell many pieces to modify that engine, apart from that engine can be stroke at 1,900 cc. In terms of front and rear I see it very similar to the fiat 147 for which many modifications are also sold here. good luck with the project. sorry for my bad english.
Your English is better than most Americans, no worries my friend.
South America has an awesome mix of region specific cars and cool models we don't get here in the EU. I would like to see this Yugo turn into a full rally car, those parts you mentioned would fit nicely.
@@lillexus5589hopefully a turbo the size of a dustbin, a supercharger, rally shocks, etc... I want him to go *N U T S* on this thing haha.
Yugo is fiat 127
Came across this video and just as a joke I decided to look to see if there were currently any Yugos for sale and much to my surprise, I noticed a familiar Yugo in the "recently sold" auction listings (annoyingly, a lot of those pop up when you search for old cars for sale). May 9th, 2022, 2;18 EDT, Sold for $4,750 , sold by "agingbob", a heavily modified light brownish Yugo with racing tires and fog lights. He sold the Yugo.
I love the whole vinwiki extended universe, with Ed, tyler, tavarish, aging wheels, the wizard etc.
And it's money in the bank 👍🙂

Has anyone shit their pants in this Yugo, yet?
For some reason I convinced myself that this car was going to Hoovie. So good to see that it's going to somebody who lives on the darker side and knows that it really could be worse.
It's too crazy for hoovie
Hoovie would do what he did the last time Freddie gave him a project car, sell it... this was a much better choice!
How many times did you replace the timing belt before it died on you?
I currently owned an '88 GV, albeit with a 2 inch lift and snow tires (the spare doesn't fit in the engine as it's supposed to 😂)
"40 mousepower"
Goddamnit I choked. I haven't laughed like this since the last time I imagined a Trabant on a 1/4 mile track...
that's 10 more mouse power then the range extender in my bmw i3s what's a high quality 2 cylinder engine that a regular oil change place can change the oil in that's about the same size as the 2 cylinder motorcycle bmw engine but they regular oil change place can change the oil without wrecking the engine seals on it??
The more you modify it, the faster yugo! I'll let myself out
Hahahahaha! Please exit, stage left.... :P
When Tavarish mentioned another youtuber getting it I had my fingers crossed, and YES!!!!!! It's so cool this is now in your hands!
Oh i didn't even have my fingers crossed I basically knew who he meant lol.
We actually knew this from the recent Under Dunn video when it was stealthily revealed :)
I vote for the walnut dash- It would be incredibly Wrong while being incredibly Awesome.
Don't forget the starry night headliner!
Rolls Royce interior. Just Because.
...with an '80's Timex watch affixed to the dash
I think a Carbon Fibre dash would look awesome
I vote for the walnut dash but only if made from actual walnuts
When Tavarish said he was giving it to a friend I knew exactly that you would be that unfortunate friend.
@Robert Nelson They did a collab a while back. It was a mock aging wheels review of a Ferrari that caught on fire. It was tavarish's car and it was in his shop.
"The steering is horrifying, I like it!"
I really like the interior as it is. This car would actually be an awesome sleeper. So smaller wheels. Greetings from Yugoslavia :)
This thing need proper 80s Recaro seats.
"...now it's hot sh!t" absolutely killed me. Well played, Tavarish - you get to have all the fun with it and don't need to deal with actually, you know, owning / driving it. Smart.
Pretty tasteful actually, never thought I’d love a yugo this much.
I think this car needs a cage or at least a rollbar... 😅😂
Autocross Yugo I'm sure he could set the record 😂
It needs a muzzle XD
naaaah he just need a helmet
I think steering is more important
Bruh it doesn't even have a front bumper
I autocrossed a Fiat 128 sedan with that engine in it and it is a high revving monster! That design was the first belt drive overhead cam engine sold in the USA...
I had a Fiat x1/9, fun to drive, until I threw a rod, and put a hole in the side of the block, all while I was driving at 100+ on the freeway...lol
He needs to aurocross this Yugo.
Well, Pontiac sold a belt drive overhead cam 6 cylinder in the 60’s .....soooo just fyi

I have NEVER seen someone look so happy to own a YUGO... Your face says it all, like Christmas everyday!
My 1986 is blue with the gray interior. It’s an awesome combination actually. The gray interior fits the Yugo well.
You should put one of the weird patterned 90s cloth seats in there
The Recaro seats that the GTI used had some cool patterns and would look great in there.
Pretty comfy too.
"the shifter was so vague and meaningless it might as well have been fine art"
This right here, before even the half-minute mark, is a good resume of Robert's sense of humor that I signed up for.
Also a video that comes very timely, as I've just settled on a network of broadcasting friends of mine to goof around with, except it's on Twitch - so instead of his well-applied editing chops I prefer to play games with silly stories or roleplay on the strategy and simulation genres.
Aging wheels is such a good and wholesome channel
It's probably one of my favorite channels... and I don't like the cars at all! He just makes them seem so interesting that it changes my perception of them.
Sound almost like my x1/9. I wish I had that dual Webber set up on mine, looks like tons of fun to drive
Whatever it happens to the Yugo, please make sure a piano doesn't fall on its roof.
It's not a Morris Marina so it should be fine.
Just just praying for the miracle: a collab with rich rebuilds and Samcrac, just imagine the jokes
Samcrac's taste in mods is terrible though. Remember that disgustig steering wheel he put in the AMG E class? Or ditching the period-correct wheels with some ridiculous black wheels that have no place on a Mercedes?

I had a sneaking suspicion you'd end up with this! Excited to see where you go with it!
It may have been a poopy Yugo, but it was entirely in line with my experiences with a similar Yugo about 27 years ago. Same color and everything. In fact...
You should make a video of taking the Yugo to a rally. It'd be like that video you did with the Trabant but WAY faster
I've followed that Yugo and I'm thrilled you're the one who got it!!!!
Flocking the dash sounds fabulous!!
Freddie "Tavarish" is not only talented but an incredible person . I would love to see the youtubers do a build and give him a car
Looks like that thing is hilarious, if terrifying, to drive, what w/ that "fine art" gearshift, and the overall sense that it came from Garage 54!
That color is PERFECT 👌 , looks so so good

And here i am. When you said "brown" i want to watch that Alec's video. Looks like it is reflex...
I would love if you kept the current interior colors, that poop color suits this car so well!
I just want a 10 minute video of you driving that thing, haven't laughed so hard in ages.
This is so much fun, watching how happy you are with this car! I'm looking forward to more fast fun now, Robert!
Your laughter when your driving it is just great👍👍👍
It would be fun to see the SAAB 2-stroke engine in the Trabby.
Can i just say: I love that your clones are walking in some scenes together. I just think that gives you a personal and creative note.
Now tell me are you planning a world invasion with them?
New meanings to Yugo now. Yugo really fast. Yugo uncontrollably off the road into the ditch. Yugo pimping your ride. Looking forward to where Yugo with this.
Much obliged,
Francis
I remember when you drove this thing before and thinking it should make some great RUclips project videos. Glad to see other people were thinking the same thing and actually did something about it.
I loved the hot sh*t joke right before the intro. 🤣
I know a guy on facebook who lives in Seriba where I get all my Yugo parts from let me know if you need anything they are getting hard to find parts for nowadays
"The shifter was so vague and meaningless it might as well been Fine Art."
Why I come here...
Looks like fun. If you’re looking to replace seats, find some from a wrecked BMW i3. Very light, usually cloth, and frequently a few shades of brownish beige. Also completely manual.
"Fine art" hehe!
I test-drove a brand new Yugo back in 1989 - as I remember the engine overheated about a mile away from the dealership. End of story.

It makes me smile to see two guys having such fun messing around with a Yugo, of all things! Have fun, drive fast, take chances, and DON'T get caught. I'll be tuned in for the upgrades.
Just found out about your channel because of Tavarish and this car! Good luck with this project, car looks fun as heck!
Think this car needs a wheel widebody kit, race seats and a roof rack with a pop up tent kit to make it the ultimate racer/camper Yugo.
Seems like both you and Tavarish got nothing good to say about the Yugo’s previous owner...sensing some beef here
Seeing you enjoy the Yugo so much made me enjoy it even more! CONGRATULATIONS!
Possibly the most exciting part of this video is the mention of a possible SAABant in the future! 🤩
It's sad to see this car go away, but I bet the new owner would absolutely love it.
It's GREAT to see you back again, this was a great video, it's cool that you have caught the modifier bug, no more constraints, none! In the words of um, someone, GO YOUR OWN WAY...
About that Trabant hot rod: back here in Germany people put Polo and Lupo GTI engines in them. The Polo G40's engine comes with a scroll-type supercharger. Some guy in Poland went a step further and installed the Audi TT 1.8L turbo engine and quattro drivetrain into one. 270bhp, ABS, ESP, four wheel drive.
