    Otherwise, very good video, all the directions were clear & accurate. Only thing I would say is use silicone based lubricant on the clamps. Other than that thanks for the help.

    Thanks Aaron! I didn't need a thermostat, but I just replaced my radiator and was struggling with burping it and wasn't getting any heat. That little trick of popping the steam hose near the heater core did the trick to draw that (hopefully) last pocket of air out and the heater is blowing plenty of hot air now. I was beginning to wonder if my problem may have been the thermostat, which led me here.

    Do you have a video on how to replace that hose that you removed to bleed the system? The jar was cracked so I had to replace it. It came with that hose but I couldn't get it off because It was pinned under the fuse box which I couldn't figure out how to remove. I'm also surprised you were able to remove that hose without breaking that plastc barb on that little canister looking piece going into the firewall. It crumbled when I tried to wiggle the hose off. I had to replace heater hose assy across the firewall, but lucky NAPA's replacement was Aluminum. Much better part than factory!

    For water pump replacement CHANGE YOUR OIL BEFORE YOU BLEED THE COOLING SYSTEM. I got the engine up to temp to bleed the system. Then I went and got the stuff for an oil change. I remove the oil cap and it was creamy white !!!!! I immediately drained the oil and it was also completely contaminated!!! I drained it changed the oil and filter. Ran it for 3 minutes. Drained it AGAIN STILL WHITE .
    Went to the store got two more filters and more oil. Filled it again with new filter and 3/4 quart of trans fluid let it run for 15 minutes drained it and it got better. DRAINED SWAPPED FILTER AGAIN ran it for 10 minutes drained it and then did a final filter and fill. I have videos and photos of the whole ordeal. PLEASE PEOPLE DO NOT START UNTIL YOU DRAIN OIL AND REPLACE FILTER. There was very light gold flake in the pan. Which means BEARING material. Final oil change I also added a quart of Lucas oil stabilizer. I hope I'm able to get some years out of the engine. Prices are going up for replacements and they all have higher mileage. $2500 for 140k mile replacement engines..

    Thanks for the video. I'm going to change the t-,stat on my 2012 Frontier. I don't have a code but according to my OBD scanner the operating temperature is between 195 and 202 during the winter and summer. The gauge on the dash always shows the temp is below the mid-point. So something is going on.

    • @AaronHinesAuto
      @AaronHinesAuto  6 лет назад +1

      On many of the frontiers, xterra, and titans I have worked on. they all seem too operate at about 195-200 with the oem thermostat and under normal conditions so I wouldn’t worry too much. How low is the gauge and how long does it take to get to operating temp?

    • @arizflash
      @arizflash 6 лет назад

      It gets to operating temperature in 15 minutes when it is 25º and 10 minutes in the summer. The dash temperature gauge is at 40 to 45 if you consider the midpoint is 50. I've never seen it above midpoint.

    Hey Aaron, I have a 2005 Pathfinder and am starting to see a rise in temperature (gauge) when stuck in traffic for too long. Was thinking it may be a thermostat issue but you said they go to full open when bad. What would you recommend checking? During normal operation, the temperature stays at a normal temperature range. I've not done any service to the cooling system since new. Thanks in advance for your help.

    • @AaronHinesAuto
      @AaronHinesAuto  5 лет назад +2

      First thing i would do is check coolant level. Make sure it’s not low. Next would be your fan clutch. When you say stuck in traffic. I assume you are taking about low speed? You could have a lack of air speed across the radiator. Which would point to the fan clutch. Next I would guess the thermostat. They most likely fail in the open position. However I have seen a few thermostats fail to open all the way. Which limits the amount of water that is able to move to the coolant system.

      If it’s loosing water, you most likely have a leak or bad head gasket. Any reputable shop should be able to perform a test to rule out a bad head gasket. Oreillys has a rental tool some stores have that they can loan you. I would like to rule out a head gasket issue before looking for the leak

      yikes! 2nd one? i perfer oem thermostats when possible. i have seen aftermarket (oreillys, napa) thermostats fail quickly on these Nissans before. in my personal xterra i am running a thermostat from an 05 350z, pn 21200-4W01B, it the same exact part and fits perfectly only difference is it opens at a cooler temp. 170 degrees. our oem thermostat opens at 180 degrees. the oem thermostat pn is 21200-31U1B . is if you live in a hotter climate i would perfer the 350z thermostat. also make sure you are bleeding the system of any air pockets. air loves to hang out in the heater hoses near the firewall. hope this helps.

    Curious before I start this project.... sometimes my heater doesn’t work.. when it does, it’s only hot while I’m accelerating. It gets cold almost instantly when at a red light. I’ve burped the lines, and the coolant level is between min and max. I can try burping one more time... but does this happen of the thermostat needs replaced? Or does that sound like I still have a bubble in the system?

    Hi Aaron. I recently replaced my thermostat and coolant because at idle for more than A few minutes the temp will begin to rise and air conditioning will start to blow warm. I also had the A/C system checked for leaks and topped up the refrigerant. So after replacing thermostat the problem is still there. I checked the clutch fan and it seems to be good. Problem I think and I'm hoping you have an answer from experience is thermostat is closing for to long of A period and allowing the temp to climb to high? Only reason I say this is yesterday temperature was around 35C and I was monitoring it And heard the system close and instantly the hoses became rock hard and heat blowing out from fan was scorching hot as well as temp gauge climbing and A/C started blowing warm. Sorry for the story. Any ideas? Thanks for the video. And any response

      i had a little trouble understanding your post, the electric fan will only come on for two reasons, if the engine coolant temp rises above 212 degrees or if the pressure in the a/c system goes above 225 psi. is the pathfinder overheating

    I have a Question: on my 2011 Xterra the reservoir tank and the radiator caps are different. One has a spring and a stamp reading 108 kpa, the other is simple, no spring and no pressure label. Should the labeled cap be on the radiator or on the reservoir tank. I’m curious because the simple cap, the one without the spring was on the radiator and the other was on the reservoir tank. Please Tell me what u think. Thank you.

    • @AaronHinesAuto
      @AaronHinesAuto  5 лет назад +1

      The spring cap goes on your reservoir and the cap with nothing goes on your radiator. Do not mix them up or your xterra will over heat. I did this on accident many years ago and learned the hard way!

    Hello, I have a Suzuki 2009 Equator, last winter it would sometimes not blow hot air but the temp gauge said all was normal, so I assumed when I added coolant in the Spring it would clear up, and it
    did, but this winter I took it to the dealer because it was again not blowing hot air. The dealer flushed the engine and said it was a air pocket, but now the gauge is not working. The dealer says I need to bring it back ASAP or the engine may overheat, but the bill to replace a thermostat is $550, is this because of the labor?

    • @AaronHinesAuto
      @AaronHinesAuto  5 лет назад

      Thermostat can be purchased for about $30. So most of that price is labor, and new coolant of course. You can do the job yourself in your driveway in a couple hours using basic hand tools. How long has it been since the flushed the coolant? And by you saying the temperature gaUge Isnt working you’re meaning it doesn’t move from cold? If this is the case you need to check the coolant level in both your radiator and overflow tank. If the coolant is low enough to cool it will not touch the temp sensor. The sensor is meant read water temp. If air is touching The sensor due to a air pocket you will get a false reading in the engine could in fact overheat. Without you knowing until it’s too late

      @@AaronHinesAuto Thanks, yes, the needle does not move from C, which it did before I took it in. They also said they thought it was an air pocket but did flush and refill the radiator. The mystery to me is why they did not run the engine and see that the gauge was now not working. If it is the sensor I just want to know why the labor is so much, you said for me it would be a few hours, I will need to talk the dealer and see why it would take so long, looking at the picture you have and the procedure you have on video. I'll find out more tomorrow, Thx

      @keithkollmann3240 5 лет назад

      @@AaronHinesAuto They managed to say they could have replaced it, but said when they went through all the diagnostics after the repair, it showed no problems, although I noticed the gauge not working immediately after I picked it up.I guess to appease me they didn't charge 600 but only 420 for the thermostat, but the lesson is you should always replace the thermostat when (maybe you can fill in the blank here). I think that would give people true knowledge of a vehicle, many years back I had a mechanic I trusted and when my car hit 80k I asked him what to do, he gave me a list of procedures and said it would be a lot cheaper to have them all done,
      since the labor to open up the engine was already done. I spent 4k, but the car ran with no repairs for the next 100k.

    Hi Aaron, I have a 2012 XTerra and this cold season it seems to struggle to get warm air in the cabin. Some days it does blow somewhat warm air after driving awhile at full blast, on most short trips the heat never gets warm. I used a scanner but no codes (no check engine), the engine temp gauge on dashboard shows normal (about a quarter of the way). After running the engine for awhile, I can feel both the heater intake and outgoing hoses warm to the touch. Is this likely an open thermostat issue? Thanks a lot.

    • @AaronHinesAuto
      @AaronHinesAuto  5 лет назад +1

      It could be yes. However I have seen this before and low coolant was the issue. Make sure your coolant tank is full. Also air could be in the heater lines.
