I show you how to use UV dye in the refrigerant so that you can spot where the leak is and fix the problem. The R134a refrigerant system should be a sealed system with no leaks, but in this case the air conditioning compressor was leaking.

Its hard to decide who I like more. A young man who never shows his face and opens all his videos with "hey guys", or a middle aged man who starts his videos with "Rev up your engines!" and always seems to be yelling at me.
I love Scotty's videos! This young man here seems to know his stuff too. I don't care if they show their faces or not.
Do they know what they're talking about? That's the key thing
They are BOTH equally good no matter what way you look at them. ChrisFix is very through and detailed in his videos. ChrisFix taught me how to clean my windows and other various parts of my vehicle better than professional quality. My vehicles are so clean dealers keep hounding me to buy my vehicles because they are kept in pristine condition. Scott is great with mechanical advice, ChrisFix will teach how to get the job done!
Absolutely my 2 favorite channels on RUclips!
They’re both essential, those dudes feel like part of the family lol
Lol
In my 40yrs I’ve never had someone explain the basics of an a/c system in such a way that was so understandable. Thank you! (Found my leak, too!) 👍🏻👍🏻
Did u fix it??
Agreed. Chris seems to have a way of simplifying anything he's working on in a way that everyone can understand. Often he seems to leave out a lot of extra information that might confuse people and that wouldn't be necessary for the task at hand.
I think ChrisFix is phenomenal. He explains things so it's simple to understand.
So true :)
👍🏼❤️
I did it! I just fixed my own AC and 15 minutes ago I didn’t even know what a condenser was! You have saved my many dollars and boosted my self esteem in one fell swoop. Keep up the awesome work!
How did you fix it?
I've been a mechanic for over 40 years and I really enjoy your videos, you explain things in a way that is very easy for the guys and gals that don't work on cars everyday can easily understand keep up the Great work.
Now the secret is out we don't need mechanic anymore
You're my fucking hero for not every showing your face. All these people on You Tube spend 1/10 of the video talking to the camera and trying to say something funny. You just fix the cars.
and kicks butt singing KODACHROME ( Paul Simon's voice, pretty cool ! )
yea, others show their ugly face all day long, and u don't know what the ___ they're (not) trying to tell you .. thanks, Chris!!
Lmao and when he does joke, it's so non chalant and it makes it funny
I wonder what he looks like though!!!
He has a nice voice lol
I am a 72-year-old woman who has been ripped off by every air conditioning auto body shop in the area. It’s around 3 AM and I decided to look at your video. I have a little bit of knowledge since I have filled my AC with Freon before. Now I’m going to buy the Freon with the dye in it and try to find a leak.
How’d it work out?
I'm curious too, did you ever fix your AC?
If grandma out here doing it herself what is everyone else’s excuse 😂. Please tell me you have cold ac now
@rd3914 @alvaro93364 @elirivera2975 wow, 3 years and still no reply guys... I don't think it went well for her
Right on! You go girl!
One of the most detailed, best filmed and thoroughly explained repair videos I’ve ever seen. Wife’s car has a slow leak in AC and now what was a mystery to try and fix has become clear. Thank you!
Wow, you really do an excellent job of conveying this info in a clear and organised manner. Less than 15 minutes and I actually understand how my ac works and how to diagnose a leak. Thank you for providing this valuable service to us all. Your channel is a gem!
I know he’s amazing!!😊😊
I am 14 years old and thanks to you i know more than my dad about cars and now he always ask me to fix something if we need to haha
GameTV Lol same, I watch these vids for no reason. Its just cool to have knowledge. Although I did take auto in school for next semester
Same :)
Hussein J. same here
GameTV This is AWESOME! Made my day for sure with all you guys commenting this! I love to hear this!
Hussein J. Lol me too
I would love to know why there are even any dislikes? taking $$$$ from those who take money from us? we need more honest people like you!!!!! Thank you!!
The dislikes are the mechanics losing money 😂
Thanks and great job ❤!!
Chris did a great job explaining in DETAIL from one point to another. most Y-tubers lack those details. Chris Fix not only explains in detail - but he uses a clear microphone that overrides any load back noice. Chris made sure to go under the wheel / behind the bumper etc..... to allow the person watching this video an easy understanding on what he's doing
Good Job Chris!!!!
Dude!!!! I am absolutely frightened to death if everything under my hood! But you just explained everything in a way that puts my mind at ease to do a leak check on my own before taking it to a garage!!! Can’t thank you enough!!! I hope you’re vids are monetized because you undeniably deserve it!!!
Be assured ... the videos here are monetized !!
This is the only guy in the world of you tube that explained each step correctly and in an orderly manner. Nicely done bud...thanks.
He has the perfect resonance in his voice...and is a gifted instructor above many...
Criss u r second to none, u go out of ur way to explain things properly and what u will encounter in the build, the Chevelle videos are the most helpful, thanks for doing this.
I love that you don't make rocket science out of this kind of stuff. Demystification of car tech...
THANKS
Attila theHun I am glad the video was helpful!
It is to me. I have no idea what he's talking about
I second that opinion. The guy who can explain something simply is the smartest guy in the room.
C/F. I have to tell you, I think you have one of the dopest channels on youtube. It might be a toss up between yours and kipkay, but I have to say, since they are both about different fields, you certainly take the cake for coolest, most organized, most informative, most helpful, most creative, most interesting, and most money saving car related help I have ever seen. Good job man!
Lawrence Mudge Thanks a lot bud! This means a lot to me (more than you realize)! I do my best with these videos and comments like this make me happy it is worth all of the effort! I really appreciate the support!
ChrisFix i watch your videos just because there amazing I'm only 12 and can't fix cars
ChrisFix xy
You're way ahead of me! I have one and I don't wanna get screwed over by mechanics
Kip Kay WAS good . Not any more his videos have gone down in quality.
You are VERY talented, systematic, and highly organized!!!! You could easily have your own successful automotive repair and maintenance national Syndicated radio or even TV show and I assure you millions would watch you! Thanks, you're an awesome teacher and instructor. God bless!
Thank you man. I've learned so much from your videos I now do ALL maintenance and fixes by myself. (Unless it has to go up on a rack, but that hasn't happened because I get my info from you!) I love it when people tell me I can't do it, it's like a dose of encouragement. YaY! TY!
Watched a few other videos and still do not tell me exactly how/where to check potential leakage.
This is the best video which shows you exactly the trip to check leakage. It also tells you how A/C system works to make cool air. Very cool !
Thank you, Chris.
I've been doing my own repairs ever since I was 16 years old had 6 motor bikes then progressed to cars when reaching 17 and got my drivers license,
It was always a suck it and see situation, only way to learn, in my 70s now
So the motivation is sadly lacking, but I do enjoy these little videos from you guys, so I'd just like to say thanks for posting them and giving your time to show how things can be done, knowledge is a wonderful thing, cars are quite complicated nowadays, all computer driven. More sensors than the shuttle, anything goes wrong call the computer guy, even my auto box has 2 sensors, one goes wrong, got to change the box, the wonders of modern cars, regards,
I'm doing my damnedest to learn. Seems like I'm starting out a lot like you, minus the bikes
Terence Molloy I
Not to one up you Terence but I had 9 motorcycles, wife (wisely) made me sell them. Now I have more room to work on her car :) 😂
I just found this channel. I am amazed by some young people that have advanced the learning curve 20-3- years with all the information available today.
Hi Chris,
I first found your channel when working on my Mazda B3000 Ranger. It has been a huge help with that truck, but also with my other rigs. Thanks for being so thorough and realistic. This video really gives me the confidence and know how to check my AC. I appreciate that you explained what all there is to it before starting in on the detection. That is really helpful for viewers to apply the same principles to other males and models.
Thanks!
Thank you Chris for all your videos. Amongst all hundreds of people I’ve seen giving instruction on stuff here on RUclipsUniversity, you’re one of the best. Clear and concise. Totally appreciate. Thanks Brother 👍🏻
I watched someone else's video on this and it was all show. I like that you are straight-forward without all the hype and music. Very informative and I quickly learned what I need to do. Thanks dude!
This is why I keep coming back to your videos. Your explanation, communication, and attention to detail are out of this world. Thank you !
Seriously, one of the very much better clips per explanation, camera shots, and ease of fix. Mantap.
Thanks!
Excellent video for A/C leak check.
Love it! Easy to watch and very informative. This clears up a lot of seemingly complicated aspects about the AC components. Thanks!
Subscribed. I'm a former mechanic and current engineer, and these videos are really excellent in my opinion! Thank you!
hey chris i have been watching your vids for a few years & i must say that your video's are so detailed that i love them much more so than some other mechanics that are on y.t. you do a great job at explaining great work chris that's why i subscribed a few years ago !! be safe
Hey, Chris. LOVE every video. All very helpful.
LOVE the "blinker fluid" one the best.
Great video Chris. Informative, educational and right to the point. You provided me with the knowledge I need it to tackle my son's car air conditioning problem. The auto shop wanted $95 to check for leaks. Thank you.
One of the most if not the most decent video I have ever seen for AC checking! Amazing !
I absolutely love your video. It was so self-explanatory there were no questions that I could come up with you hit it right on the spot. Thank you so much for all of your help. Good luck to you and hopefully you will continue to help the public with your wonderful videos.
This video took a lot of guesswork away for me. Thank you.
DE Nichols Awesome! That is the goal!
Thanks man I'm 14 and just started working with my dad in his body shop recently and your videos have helped me a lot on matince in the shop on cars and my hand me down jeep
Gabe Hurst Awesome! That is what I like to hear! You are going to know a lot if you are leaning all of this at 14! keep it up!

This was an OUTSTANDING video!!!! Thank you for the time and attention you devoted to putting out this important information. In much gratitude...
Chris you're amazing.
Hi Chris you are amazing, you remind me when I was in your age , your way to explain the matter very excited , thanks again for your nice literature.
Hey my 2017 dodge durango is definitely leaking so thank you for all this information now I know what to do.
Such a clear and concise video. I suddenly feel so informed about the subject of my car a/c not cooling. Not that I want to try doing this myself, but at least I can talk intelligently at an auto repair place and get duped by them. I would like to go live very near Chris and be his neighbor and best friend, or a favorite adopted aunt! 🥰 Thanks dear fellow. 🙏
Best video I've seen on RUclips to date! Thank you
Thanks! I think you will like my videos then haha!
Excellent tutorial - Thank You !!!
Excellent video with full explanation, I knew almost nothing about A/C but this has clued me up immensely.
One of the best videos on youtube that diagnose AC problems. Well done 👍
I consider it good practice to always use a gauge set and monitor the high side whenever you are filling the low side.
Good diy video...
Video was made 7 years ago! I’m watching this in 2023 and man this was great video!
One of the best videos on YT
Now i understand how AC works , GREAT Video thanks A lot .
eyad aljamal Awesome! I should do a video just about the AC system and how it works so you can understand all the parts (although I guess I covered it pretty good in this video).
Eyad Jam ii
Great job as usual, Chris!
Tony Redden Thanks a lot Tony!
ok o
I found your page at the beginning of covid. Bro!!! You've made and saved me money.....I appreciate you.
Your vids create confidence, even for an old man that needs to work on my own vehicles. Thanks again.
I can do this. 😳😊😎🏁😀
Thanks for your videos 👍👍🍺
I'm so glad you do these videos. Thank you!
snarlingrabiddog5150 No problem! These videos are what really helps people! It can cost $1000 for a shop to just find a leak and you dont even know if they are telling you the truth!
Two different shops quoted me at $113-$223 and I called my motorhead friend and he said go to chrisfix and do it yourself. Being female and having interest in cars really sucks! Mechanics (well, ppl in general) will screw you over SO bad for being uneducated and female!
Grae D did you ever end up finding the leak?
Ezra Collier
Can’t thank you enough ChrisFix! In a word... Stellar!!🙌🏽
Thanks Chris, It couldn't have been explained any better than that. Good Job.
Nice video bro keep up the good work
Put a re-manufactured compressor on my car that they said they tested, it turns on and the clutch activates fine but won't hold a charge. When recharged by a pro the temp didn't change hardly at all. Going to use this method. Thanks.
Seriously, one of the very much better clips per explanation, camera shots, and ease of fix. Super!
Thanks!
You sound very rehearsed and professorially trained in automotive mechanics as well as video media. You've got your stuff together.
looking forward to seeing how to properly charge ac system!
He does seem to know what he's doing there I approve of it myself
Thank you Sr...!!👍🏼 I'm not an expert in mechanics but you really helped me to help my loved ones👍🏼 much appreciated
You do a really good job of saying all possible outcomes. Like you’re a great teacher
Good video thanks !!!
I don't even own a car but I still love to watch your videos.
Madhurya Kakati same for me
Great way of breaking down the refrigeration cycle 👍🏼
Wow!The explanation is very clear and easy to understand. Thanks a lot!
Thank you for taking the time to do this.
No problem!
🙂👏👏
Hey chris the link for the refrigerant comes up as interior lights lol.
Here you go: advanceautoparts.rt8x.net/mYA77
Chris thank you so much for refreshing my ac expertise for charging and finding leaks on my car ac.
I am so glad that I watched this video. I will have to get a UV light. I am sure I do have a leak somewhere. You have the best car videos.
Chris Fix was the dad I never had 🥲
Well done.
Hi, I think you used the wrong link for the Uv kit, it keeps showing some led armrest lights. Other than that great video
Excellent videos from Chris Fix again. I would suggest in the daytime without a garage put a moving blanket over hood to block light or use a refrigerant sniffer from Harbor Freight.
Great job on this video. great production, concise, to the point! A+
12:36 Chris's face? Am I the only one who saw that? (Great video btw... As usual!)
i didnt see but i always wonder why he always manage to hide his face
I already know the leaks going to be massive when I hit it with the UV light. As soon as I hit the trigger you can hear it escaping up by the condenser somewhere. The system won't even build pressure at all. Gonna check out that ring for sure.
This video is extremely perfect oh, everything is right on point by far one of the best videos I've ever seen in a couple of years, is greatly appreciate the great Mario on your information.
I love Chris's videos. They are very clear, concise and thorough. He doesn't leave anything to guess. I greatly appreciate it.
Thank you so much, just what I wanted to know on youtube. Brief and clear
Thanks chris!
Skry Axis No problem! Glad the video was helpful!
..Thanks .....that's what I needs ...👍👍👍👍👍
Awesome!
Your videos are so helpful and very clear. And to the point !
THANK YOU!! I'm a new Driver, and the A/C system on my car is crapping out. You, sir, have earned a subscriber.
🔥
Do I see that you're going to do an AC Compressor install vid to accompany this? This is actually a job that I need to do on my 98 Corolla so I'm very interested in seeing this!
***** Yes! I am going to try to make make it cost around $100 (not including the compressor). Should be a fun video!
***** Depending on the vehicle, a compressor swap is a cake walk. Did a swap years ago on a 2000 S-10. Was a breeze. I just had to remove the belt, and basically unbolt the compressor.
That's what I thought, the issue is I'll have to bring it to a shop to get it all evacuated. Cause I do have good refrigerant in my lines. Just the compressor is making a wicked bad thumping noise (like a bad piston) occasionally when running. I saw another comment about how this could be caused by the shop who did my cooler flipping the recharge can all the way upside down feeding liquid into the lines.
bro, I'm a programmer that feels like a mechanic after watching some of these.
I'm a mechanic who feels like a programmer after watching some of these.
Great video, I love the detail you put into it, keep up the good work sir.
Mine was making hissing sound on and off so I bought the refrigerator with leak sealer. Hope that'll help fix the leak if there's any and that hissing sound does not comes back on when I turn on the ac. In the future, I might just get the refrigerant with uv dye in it and check again for leaks. Great job for doing a thorough leak detecting using uv dye. That was very helpful. Keep up the great tutorial guide. I love watching all your videos as they are all very informative.
Nice leak detecting. Another thing you might try if you don't seem to find the leak, is to try looking at the puddle of evaporator water on the ground to see if it has any die from evaporator leak. Since it's so hard to look in the box. I don't know if that really works any good but it's an idea.
Since you do not know for sure if your idea works ... no reason to bother writing!!
@@warriormanmaxx8991 oh, don't share any ideas unless they are professionally tested by approved laboratory
Thanks I am going to try this.

I appreciate your explanation of how it all works! 👌🏾👌🏾
Many thanks for your brilliant upload Chris You'r a very good teacher. Definitely recommend your detailed videos to my bodies. Have fun!
Thanks for the great video and taking away some of the mystery surrounding AC. One thing that springs to mind when you brought the UV torch out is that if you didn't own the vehicle from new it might be worth giving it the once over with the light before starting to ensure there isn't any pre-existing dye from a previous leak.
Perhaps Chris DID give it a once over with the light, yet chose not to video your unasked for advice in advance !!
@warriormanmaxx8991 Seriously, you're going to go through all the comments here and make childish remarks? You need to get out of your mom's basement and get a life buddy!
excellent thanks
nyinfamous2k2 No prob! Glad you liked the video!
Great job . Don't find many mechanics with that much patience
really good video Sir!i like when I search for something and I find it, instead of having to listen to a bunch of crazy people saying nothing relevant
