    Avaa & There's a great article I read called "Yeat, Satan, and How To Be An Ambitious Perc Addict" that summarizes why I think his lyrics have always been a lot more interesting than they seem, and 2093 pushes that even further for me. Drugs are Satan, CEOs are God, Yeat gets clean and it only makes him more evil
    (Plus he still has an ear for punch lines, "Imma buy your whole company then sell your hard work for a dime" is maybe the funniest flex I've ever heard in a rap song)

    AVAA I loved Yeat since Up 2 Me and I’ve seen his progression since then and I always thought that he had the potential to overtake his contemporaries like Travis Scott and Playboi Carti and even if you don’t like his music, you have to respect his work ethic. He produces and mixes a lot of his own music and just understands vibes. As someone with a past with substance abuse issues, some of the lyrics on this thing resonate with me in a way that I didn’t expect. He’s not a lyrical genius in any form, but I find that he has a charisma that cannot be overlooked, especially compared to someone like Travis Scott. Great album by a great artist, imo. Edit: yes the album is long but I dont find it to be bloated and besides the subpar features, I find it to be a very enjoyable listen all the way through.

    I know you’re very busy in general, Professor Skye, and AVAA, but I was really hoping for you to give an analysis of the lyrics’ heavy involvement with the theme of sobriety! I was waiting eagerly these past few days for your thoughts on it haha. Although it may seem yeat is not saying much, every single line on the album (no exaggeration here) seems to support the idea that Yeat is displaying a conversation between his two selves: the addict/disrespectful/money hungry/psycho ceo yeat and his sober self he truly strives to become. The cinematic sound is not used simply for aesthetic but to help progress this story of Yeat’s journey to sobriety. This all being done with the cyberpunk 2093 metaphor to represent how far removed Yeat initially felt from sobriety, even though he seems to acheive it near the conclusion of the album (proving to battle temptations there as well of course). Yeat’s lyrics and delivery seem extremely well thought out just as though he was performing in a play rather than just spewing out the year’s next trap album. But of course AVAA and would love to know your thoughts!! ❤

      There's still so much more to unpack, especially at the end he mentions there is '9 of ya'. In other songs earlier in the album he mentions there's multiple demons/versions of him self too. He also purposely repeats lines in the album making it seem like every lyric had a meaning

    • @indrabhattacharyya
      @indrabhattacharyya 6 месяцев назад +1

      @@emmetkeane4807 there for sure is a lot left to unpack. Honestly though, I’m leaning towards him saying “there’s none of ya” with a very strong accent on 1093. But he rly does repeat specific lines throughout the album!

    If he can get his writing to a higher level I believe he can become crazy big in a similar sense to carti,uzi or future along with making some songs shorter so they don’t drag on but I’m sure he will after the development of his sound so far over such a small period
    He’s actually sober now tho so when he mentions drug he’s talking about how he was before like he does mentoning it on multiple songs

    I like Yeat but I’m not totally sold on him yet as someone special who will be relevant for a decade plus.. I need to listen to the full album , only have heard about half of 2093 so far.. I always end up focusing on bits of the review that aren’t the main point.. what I found interesting was you mentioning the Ye shaped hole.. and MJ too etc. And I’m watching this after the Quadeca review so I’m thinking about grief too.
    The way I’ve started thinking about grief, and things missing is instead of the hole it’s more like a piece chipped or broken away. So instead of a person (grief) or culture (absence of figure) becoming riddled with holes, we are just reshaped. When Ye arrived, for eg, he helped grow culture.. he added and what he added hasn’t gone and continues to grow as others are influenced. The bit that is his presence has now started to erode but someone will come along and their presence will add to culture but not fill the exact same space. I dunno.. hard to really explain my mental approach and grief feels like a hole because you physically feel that emptiness inside but it helped me by thinking of it as me being reshaped. 13:50 in and clearly avaa

    AVAA. Weird comparison, but I almost view Yeat like a Liz Fraser from Cocteau Twins at this point with how he uses his voice as more of an instrument than a tool to say something. Needless to say he has a way different emotional range than Liz, but musically their voices fill similar roles. The way I intellectualize it is that I don't look to a guitar or a drum to say something profound, they just serve as part of a palette.

It also contributes to the mood set in his lyrics, describing traumatizing events or normal activities to him that he recognizes a white audience won’t have any personal reference to likely.
