- Australia on Monday (Dec 11) said it would tighten visa rules for international students and low-skilled workers in an attempt to reduce migrant intake. Demographer and social researcher Liz Allen, a senior lecturer at the Australian National University, tells CNA’s Asia Now that there will likely be an attempt to diversify where overseas students are coming from in the short term. She adds that the government needs to find “the right balance” to support sectors that are heavily reliant on migrant labour.

$55k per year uni fees is extremely high. On top of that about 24k per year for accommodation. So you need about aud$100k per year all up. It's a bad time to go to Australia to study. If you are rich you don't need to migrate to Australia. If you are poor you won't be able to survive there.
Restriction of low skilled workers needs to align with industry sectors that ultimately favored citizens in phases. Its a balancing act and needs art of forecasting not to hurt small businesses growth.
welcome those who respect your laws & culture.
If the changes are good for your immigration policy.
Then plz changes are also required for proceess of univerisities
Universities takes lots of time to revert student query .
They demand the documents from student like, students made a mistake to apply under australian university.
GTE your so called student apllication process takes lots of time.
And the student feel like they apply for loan application in banks.
My suggestion is to introduce GIC policy like cananda.
There are too many international students and people who are just using this broken visa system to stay in Australia, also for rich Chinese to invest outside of China. The result is 10 year on year rent inflation.
Mainland chinese students dont stand a chance😂😂
Too many of them everywhere
@@nuggetsss2526 Absolutely
@@jansg405Can these Chinese students speak English?
Good move !
CNA towkay. Aussie also stopped remittance to China also liao. can report or not?
Yeah too many CEENA now cannot come with their tongue twister english.
Cut the non-skilled immigrants and focus on migrant workers that can build more houses and infrastructures smh
Wow.
If the society and government systems are truly meritocratic, then it doesn’t matter if the student or worker is local or overseas and of what country of origin, gender, race, or other demographic markers. For example, the building company management will be sued for bankruptcy if the property they built collapsed and killed tens to hundreds of humans. Could the building company escape prison or insolvency by simply pointing to the “policy or culture” of hiring locals regardless of their workers’ experience, expertise or costs? In matters of health and safety, e.g. in construction and hospitals, let the job go to the best human regardless what part of Earth that the human was born in.
Less China students going overseas for their acamedic study. Prefer to remain in China as the standard and quality education are far better than the US, EU and Australia. Foreign students are frocking to China to advance their acamedic career. China Space, IT, Commercial and Engineering Technology are much better. The Australian Government does not worry or critisize the China Students for its vacancies in Australia.
🤦🏻♂
China students are not keen on going to Australia, Canada, the UK, and the US for higher education, especially in STEM. China is more advanced than these Western countries in AI, robotics. In fact, many countries are flocking to China for higher education.
Australia will end with more Indians settling in Australia, and many would be the next generation of political leaders of Australia.
They will come to the little Red dot country
I don't liked china because no youtube
Despite the Australian constant propoganda about Chinese thought policing it is actually more likely now in Australian university that your career is at risk if you hold an opinion other than the official gvt narrative than in Chinese university where students and academics can talk politics. Australia is going through a McCarthyism.
Whatever visa rules the Labor government is making to filter applications for the type of international students they want here, they can be sure there would be few Chinese students who would want to come to Australia after their predecessors' terrible experience with Scott Morrison and his LNP racism and oppression. Many Malaysian parents are unlikely to send their children to Australia presently due to the weakness of the Malaysian currency and the high cost of living and tuition fees here. Also Malaysia today has higher educational institutions with very good education standards catering for their students' educational needs. In fact some bigger institutions are also having a good number of Chinese students there.
Good
That's very good, they should stay in Malaysia for good.
Good luck to Australia. Chinese are more keen in business only. A great loss for Australia economy. They are not keen on politics, unlike some nationalities, are keen on politics and championing human rights.
Lets keep Australia Chinese free
Which type of people would you welcome them to Australia for education, job seeking, demanding more grants and welfare?😂

@navalfa7291 the problem is the Swedish wont be migrating to Australia. Only the third world migrates, thats why reduced european migration to the new world
